This was the video saying “I’m done trying to do a video a month” and since, there’s only been a hand full of uploads. I totally understand too. I think a lot of resentment towards other CZcamsrs, especially near his subject, steams from how little they have to do to make multiple videos a week and still have a huge following, all while he is giving it his all just trying to compete with his OWN countdown. It’s a tough world out there. I’m glad he’s taking it easy on himself. I really respect this man.
He's a successful and we'll paid vfx artist though, CZcams is a favor for us at this point. He does deserve better on CZcams, but he's still killing it irl.
this was the first comment i saw actually adressing the theme of this video. beeing that he wants to do more and better videos, setting unrealistic deadlines for himself, and subsequently working himself to exhaustion (notice his hair getting more grey throughout the video).

Wow, that did hurt me as a fan of this man, his work is always great. It sounded as if his content was not as good as we expect it and that's why he either feels pressure or thinks his work isn't good enough. And he has been in CZcams for around 13 years now. How does he only have 2M subs? This is definitely top tier quality content, but that phrase makes me feel bad...
I think that's the point. It's not necessarily that he's blaming you or his fans but that he has trouble dealing with perfectionism, which starts with the self and is amplified by criticism. You would be right to feel sad for him that his own expectations and those of others end in making him feel like he's not enough, but this video is about him recognizing that and wanting to make a change for a healthier, more fulfilling life as a creative.
I kind of feel stupid for not knowing what he is, im just a new fan of him.
The reason why he doesn't have a ton more subs is because he doesn't upload consistently. His individual videos are amazing, but because they are so sporadic, the algorithm doesn't recommend them as often as if he was putting out weekly or bi-weekly content. Less recommendations means less views, less views mean lower priority in the algorithm, lower priority means less recommendations, and the cycle continues.
@@Horvath_Gabor -- that's probably part of it, but he also doesn't push for views either. he isn't tagging his videos or advertising or asking for subs and shares, which i respect. i do wish he tagged his vids some though, or just a little SEO.

What all those commenters laughing at the “start of the year” line haven’t noticed is that Captain D actually said “it’s the end of the year!” and he had to edit the audio afterward when he ironically missed that deadline to get the video out. You can see and hear it if you pay close attention. The reason for the deadline motif in this video was because he was trying to get the video out “on time” by the end of the year so he had to rush through the old backlog. But he actually missed that deadline so had to change the audio to say “start of the year”. And then the video still didn’t come out until April. Kinda drives home the whole point that the was making about self imposed deadlines.

I know this video is 2 years old, and I didn't even know about the channel then, but this quote is definitely yearbook worthy. Not many people can express the fear of not measuring up to expectations in such an entertaining yet sincere way. I come back to this video whenever I feel smothered by responsibilities and self-doubt for the reassurance. It's a message that is especially poignant in a post pandemic world, where death and the passage of time loom over everyone a bit closer than normal.
Being subbed to CD is a never ending roller coaster of forgetting about his existence and getting super excited when he uploads.

am i the only one who for some reason felt genuinely bad for him when he said “that is just not fair” and “that was on time what do you want from me”
its realistic though. im suffering from perfectionism and - while the captain may not have intended that message - to me this was the struggle i face regularly
where i intentionally make myself do things in unreasonably difficult ways for no real reason, it often feels like everyone else got an easy ticket and even when i achieve the thing i want, it's simply never enough. i come back to this video often because i love that idea that you needn't face the music even if your work is below what you wanted because there's always next time, there's always more time. :)

I had watched the video many times before and never realized any of this
It's genuinely amazing how much work goes into these videos. Quick 5 second gags that seem cliche, like when the videos explode and throw you to the ceiling- that must have taken AGES to do so well. Or at the end, when you create the broom and then it starts interacting with other objects in the room. What really makes them is that you never draw attention to them. It's not like the ladder video you looked at here, where the entire point is the visual effects; they're just there to supplement the storytelling and the debunking.

Let's just take a minute to appreciate the theme of this video, of him continuously battling against deadlines for his videos which was stressing him out which is symbolized by the grey hair on his head and the countdown clock but in the end he learns that the deadlines he sets for himself are to unrealistic.Well done bro another incredible video.
Also related to the fact that he turned 40, and maybe he wanted to do something big by the time he reached that age.
For a lot of people the age of 40 is a midpoint, the middle of your life, and people usually think that by that age you have to be realised and have reached you dreams

Regardless of what he meant, neither is the start of a new decade.
They begin in 2021 and at 41 respectively because you start counting with one, not zero.
I love how he always forms a story and manages to build a character arc, all while debunking videos and educating his audience. Truly there is a lot of work put into his videos and it's rare to see a creator that is consistently delivering high quality content.
This is my first time watching a video of his, and yeah, I'm super impressed by how well constructed and composed is.

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about them. After a few videos it feels kinda repetitive and nonsensical, although I never grew up with the shows he is trying to emulate so I guess I wouldn't understand the appeal.
Yea ja8ames, he has this cool way of debunking online videos, in a mythbusters style way. It's honestly so fun to watch these, because the continuous acting is so well executed.

But something interresting that he said at the begining of this video tells a lot about his vision for He says it looks like like it's for children, but it's really for adults. I think that having language and topics for an older audience, yet keeping the kid's show format is what makes his style so unique.

However, we do know that he only has 257 days left following the years. So final deadline is a December 21st (maybe 22nd depending on the hour count), 2021 at the bare minimum.

Never thought a debunkathon would about being a tear to my eye but wow, this was immensely powerful as a long time fan. I will always wait to see CD as he fully intends. Quality is always greater than quantity, and going through the comments that goes for the fan base as well. While you don’t have the flashy 30-50M subs, the ones you do have are so deeply invested. And there’s an incredibly vast source of reasons for this. I also, can’t wait for the next decade CD. Hope to look as good as you do at your age.

i have just subscribed and yet it feels like I watched you my entire life.
maybe due to the fact that you have the type of aesthetics from the 90's like spy kids. And these are my childhood. So it's like my childhood big-box-of-a-tv-that-you-need-to-give-a-good-slap-at-the-top-to-work come to life again with the same feels, same aesthetics but taclles advanced topics and debunkings.
Watching this 'episode' gave me the sad nostalgic feeling of the show ending already. And with a comment saying that you post less and less because of probably being tired or getting old, it just breaks my heart. You have an amazing channel seriously. Thank you.
