You know, that bit at the end about the blurring reminds me of Cinema Sins and how a ton of people that defend them (and they themselves have claimed) with the argument of "it's not meant to be real criticism, and anyway people can totally tell". And your thing about how that kind of fuzziness can be dangerous, that really hits home to me. Thank you.
That's a false equivalence if I ever seen one, CinenaSins whether you like it or not doesn't say anything factual or that can be construed as such: it's based on works of fiction and as such nothing they claim is a matter of fact and given that's satire is not made to make anyone comfortable if you don't like what they say or how they say it you can either express your thought in a civil manner or outright close the video and go on with your day.
@@paolorubenmastretta Uh.... they do say things that are factually incorrect though. For example they'll claim that something doesn't make sense and ding it, but the film _does_ actually explain that thing. That's factually incorrect. They will also sometimes intentionally edit footage to make things look worse than they really are in the film, to support the "sins" they wish to assign to it.
Then, when they are called out for this, sometimes people will claim that it's "just satire" and that "everyone can tell it's not real criticism, it's just for fun" despite, if you look into the comments, you can see people commenting saying they hadn't realized the film was so bad and they wouldn't go see it. So it clearly is having an effect on people. This is similar to what is shown in this video, where people claim that "well it's not like anyone really believes it" and Captain Disillusion shows that, yes actually, some people do end up believing it is real. Even if Cinemasins or their followers claim it's satire, they put no disclaimer on their videos saying as such, and some people do end up thinking it is meant as genuine criticism.
Also, I *am* expressing my thoughts in a civil manner right now, so I'm not sure why you brought that up. That's what I'm doing. Being critical isn't incompatible with being civil. Being civil doesn't mean brown nosing.

Cinema is a form of art and opinion about it are just that opinions you cannot force them, or anyone else for that matter, to agree with you because, and I cannot stress this enough, discussing movies is not the same a making claims on real life and be it genuine criticism or not, it's not their responsibility in any way shape or form to be right.
Speaking of civil discourse, I see you do and I appreciate it, what I was referring was the fact that many of the comments I've seen attacking CinenaSins were less than decent let's say, I'll let slide the last accusation cause I'm not here to pick a fight.

"Cinema is a form of art" Debatable, given art's definition is fuzzy at best. But even so, your example is flawed. While saying "this makes no sense" might be an opinion, if you say "This painting is made with water colors" that can be a *factual error* if it isn't a water color painting. If it was done with pastels then what you have said is factually wrong, and it is perfectly valid of someone to point out that you are spreading *factual misinformation.*
That is what CinemaSins does, they make factual, objectively provable, not-just-an-opinion errors.
Also, I don't understand why you think movies aren't a part of real life and thus anyone who talks about them has no responsibility to be correct or avoid spreading misinformation. Movies are a part of reality, they're projections of light, which is real, on a screen, which is also real. They features actors and sets which are real, even CGI films are real. If I say Toy Story is about a serial killer in small-town USA, that's wrong and it's perfectly reasonable for someone to call me out on my lie. You don't get to just say "It's okay that he lied to you, because movies aren't real." That isn't how anything works.
If you do not accept that film criticism is every bit as open to criticism as anything else in the world, then I suspect there's no point to further discussion.

Unfortunately in order to be one of top dogs on youtube you have to appeal to biggest demographics which are kids and teenagers aged 10-14 (or something along those lines). Production quality has little to do with it, it's about acting a certain way (exaggerating your emotions like shock, anger and frustration) and creating brand about yourself (and not necessarily the content you produce) these kids want to idolize. Videos about scepticism and critical thinking will never become one of most viewed ones on youtube and that's fine, this is why I respect this channel so much, Captain stuck with what he believes in from the start and finally got to the point where he can make videos full-time and sustain himself.

Captain Disillusion is my favorite content creator on CZcams, and he absolutely deserves more subscribers. I hope he knows how much he's appreciated.
He doesn't get so much views because he's not favoured by the algorithm and it's not weird. CD makes amazing videos but he made 75 of them in the past 10 years, which means he may attract users to the CZcams platform only once every few months. That's not profitable for youtube so they won't feature it.
He could make more vids more often, if he ditches the face painting.

The end was hilarious. Captain, your videos have always amused me. And you're absolutely correct about the "we know this is fake" comments. I remember correctly that on your first few videos, years ago, your first comments were mostly "this is stupid and pointless, everyone knows it's fake." And even "you will never grow with a pointless channel like yours." I hope the people that said that a decade ago can see you now. ;)

lengua muerta, just saw some of Need City's videos. Seems like that channel puts a lot of effort as well! Though, when it comes to the visuals, I can't find greater content quality than that of the Captain's. In the end both channels put great work into their videos and I wanna see more CZcamsrs like that!

Have you seen the one where he's showing how people film scenes in which two or more characters played by the same person are interacting with each other/themselves seamlessly? ... And used a 3D animated character to show how it works? x'D Oh man that had me laughing, that's such a cheeky sense of humour, the amount of effort that goes into these videos is just phenomenal, and the presentation is seriously addictive, haha.

You rarely can find this quality of VFX in god damn B class or Indie movies... and this guy works them into fucking youtube video just for lulz! I have learned vfx my own, but it would take me a month of full on work to get that level of production quality O.o Sure i'm not expert and my quality is average at best, but damn his good!
