    I remember doing part of this route back in my student days with some friends back in 2005. I went from Kassel to Prague and changed trains in Dresden; seeing the names Bad Schandau and Usti nad Labem was a nice trip down memory lane - thanks, haha! Back then, the immigrations agents would come onboard and do the passport inspections en route - I still have my old passport stamps!

      Immigration checks in train, that's like something from difference century for me, I am glad we have schengen now.

    Was riding this route during the Iron Curtain, took much longer then, heavy checks at the border both out and in the next country. Prague/Praha is a wonderful town, everyone should visit it.

    Nice trip report I like that this service links two captial cities Berlin in Germany and Prague in Czech Republic and I like the views of the river after dresden and coming into Prague with the houses using historical architecture also Berlin HBF = always an amazing sight

      Absolutely. And actually this line will connect other capitals as well, since some trains on this line will be extended to Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest (not all at the same time).

    I really like your videos. I made this trip with my wife in December 2016, when we did a train journey through Europe (1 month). The section from Dresden to Prague is really scenic. If I remember well, the most beautiful site is on the left side of the train.

      Yes, I too recall the views follow along the Elbe river on the left side of the train when heading towards Prague

    Nice Video, just what i expected. This is a pretty slow route at the moment. Fortunately when section between Berlin and Dresden is completely upgraded the Vmax will be 200km/h and trains wont have to take the detour via the Ringbahn reducing the travel time to just 80 munites. Furthermore there are plans for a new highspeed railway from Dresden to Prague (but i guess you know that already).

      Really? I did know some things about it already but not everything. Thanks for letting me know. Makes me come back another time for another video I guess.

    I’m traveling from Prague to Berlin , where can I reserve the Tickets? Is it safe online or just buy it at train station in Prague when you get to the terminal ?
    Thanks

    • @Trainviking
      @Trainviking  Před rokem +1

      You can buy them at the station, however I recommend to buy it in advance. This might safe you a lot of money. Promotional tickets are for specific trains only. You can book tickets via trainline.eu, bahn.de or cd.cz.
      Trainline is using the same fares as Bahn.de. However, I'm a big fan of Trainline. CD.cz (Czech railways) might have another fare, and most of the times the prices are a bit lower via them.
      Reservations are not obligated, however it can be busy (I travelled for this video in 2020, not a lot of people travelled back than) so I really recommend to spend the small extra amount for the seat reservation.

      @@TravelALBERT thats exactly the point, I'm not allowed to travel to Germany because corona is hitting hard in Holland (for the rest of The Netherlands it's okay to travel, but I'm not allowed to go to Belgium or Germany, so basically I can't travel right now). I don't know how good everything will be checked when you cross the border, so I rather play it safe and stay home. I do have videos until december, so no worries. I will upload videos approximately every 8 days.
