You can break infinite space if you become infinite yourself, or at least so says Gurren Lagann. And if Shu wins, the Ide isn't just going to let him go either. He draws at best. The ONE TIME anyone had a serious shot of destroying Ideon, it was isolated with no one around and time bombs were inside. Of course, that attempt got fucked up quickly, but that's probably the only way to destroy it safely.
It's not a question of raw power, it's a question of how the attack is carried out. If you attack Ideon in a way that would endanger innocent life, you're just screwed. Moonlight Butterfly can't hurt people, so Ideon can't counter it.

Great song. It has that essence of tremendous, horrifying power that represents Ideon... Pretty much the only robot with a chance of beating it is Turn A, since Moonlight Butterfly only attacks machines and doesn't endanger innocent life, at least not directly. Hence, the Ide can't really harm it.
Ideons weakpoint are the pilots though, if they die, then Ideon wouldn't be able to raise its power from the survival instinct of the pilots. If the Ideon itself gets destroyed... well that'd be bad idea since the universe would end.
Had they just LEFT THE SOLO SHIP ALONE they wouldn't have had to worry about the Ideon. They were universal conquerers, they could have let the peaceful scientists away with the old tech and they would have still won eventually.
In the anime, they end up using the Black Hole cannon ONCE. After which they pretty much outright say "no situation could ever be bad enough that we'd need that again". Then again, with the planet-slicing Ideon swords being used, and the Gun being... well... that's saying something. Besides, this is SRW, where the Nadesico can fire the Phase Transition Cannon despite similar issues.
Necroposting, but recently we got Yamato added to roster, and the Motion Wave Cannon has similar restrictions: the captain refuses to use it against human enemies.
well i think that ideon is also useless when facing granzon or even neo granzon coz the damned granzon can open wormholes to "absorb" the ideon gun or ideon sword worm smasher is enough to kill ideon haha thats just my opinion

What about the ide barrier? I know it’s pretty obscure as to what it can withstand, but I think nanomachines wouldn’t be able to pierce it
