Turkish food in Kolkata! How could I not give this place a try. Kabir’s is located in Ganesh Chandra Avenue and can be easily located with the help of Google maps but finding a parking spot is pretty difficult so be prepared to have a hard time finding one.
The sitting area is tiny but is beautifully decorated. The yellow and white combination looks very pretty. It can accommodate about 15 people at once.
Now let’s get into the most important part - THE FOOD.
    • Mutton Shawarma Rs.250, Taste 4.25/5: We started off on an amazing note with this beautiful shawarma! They don’t use pita bread but the thin bread they use resembles roomali roti. The mutton kebab shaped like a seekh has a wonderful char to it delivering a lovely smokey aroma. The shawarma has french fries, pickled carrot and beetroot, shredded cabbage and their inhouse garlic sauce which is to die for!
    • Chicken Shawarma Rs.95, Taste 3.5/5: This one is also nice but after the mutton shawarma, the chicken version fell short. Nonetheless it was delicious! Smokey, crunchy and yummy - all at the same time.
    • Kanat (6pcs) Rs295, Taste 3.75/5: These are grilled turkish Chicken wings marinated with crushed garlic, hung curd and red berry flakes. These wings are then grilled on charcoal. The wings taste like an hybrid version of tandoori and barbecued chicken - Very interesting. These wings wer hefty but could have been cooked a bit more. The flesh was pink at some parts and needed some more cooking time, for sure.
    • Mutton Adana Kebab Yemek Rs.310, Taste 3/5: While adana kebabs are minced meat kebabs, yemek means meal so this consisted of 2 pcs of kebab in gravy, pilaf, butter, egg, veggies and salad. The overall dish was nice, the mutton kebab being the best but the other components were strictly okay. The pilaf had independent grains of rice and tasted alright. The egg however could have a runny egg but it was a hard set egg - a softer version would have been better. The veggies tasted the same as the bhaji of pav-bhaji. Apart from the kebabs, I think this overall meal does need some improvement.
    • Mutton Ouzi Rice (Half) Rs.850, Taste 4.25/5: Basmati Rice cooked with aromatic spices like cardamom, seven spice powder (Dried berry powder, black pepper, cinnamon, ground cloves, coriander powder, cumin powder, nutmeg) and dried lime and then baked in a clay pot with meat. The mutton was extremely tender and the rice was nicely cooked absorbing all the juices from the meat. The rice had whole spices, capsicum and onion petals in it. It’s a dish very different from what I am used to having, but it was really good.
    • Tavuk Cheese Kebab in Gravy (4pcs) Rs.325, Taste 4.5/5: Juicy chicken seekh kebabs stuffed with cheese and then cooked in a succulent rich cashew-tomato based gravy which resembles tikka butter masala flavours! Loved it.
    • Baklava Roll (3pcs) Rs.165, Taste 4.75/5: Hands down, the best baklava rolls I have had in the city. Light, flaky, airy and crispy. We loved it so much that we ended up ordering 2 portions.
