lots of European basketball teams re attached to football clubs and the same fans follow all the club teams in other sports ....... and often sing the same songs at each sport (this doesn't apply in the UK where we have a Pro Basketball League but it's a pretty niche sport)

Many football teams have their own basketball team like Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Panathinaikos Athen, Olympiakos Piräus, Red Star Belgrad, Fenerbahe Istanbul to name some of the best. But there are many more

I know basketball is massive in the Baltics, bigger than football even, but I've never seen much of the atmosphere there. This was really interesting.

Ultras in our cities, show up for whatever sport it is, to support the city. Due to regulations etc as we have here, we need our city to make money in some countries. Always support! I have never watched a cricket game, if it was big here where I live we would show up doing mayhem 🤣 or even a damn pool game hahahha The same ultras usually supports in Basketball, football etc. Football is the biggest though, since the basketball here is not as big, but we show up anyway!

Always made me laugh when that reporter asked Jokic "can you handle the atmosphere playing away in Miami?" Jokic's response "Brother, I've played in Serbia"...Thing is in Europe it doesn't matter on who plays for you, as long as they play for you, your club is a representative of your City/Area, it represents you, on the continent some football clubs have basketball teams affiliated with them (e.g FC Barcelona or Real Madrid both have basketball teams) Basketball is quite big in some places on the continent

The difference between European and US team sports is in Europe there are clubs with roots in a city, town or village and often a specific borough or neighborhood or a group of workers or students of a specific school. Many of those clubs started decades ago, over a century ago kn some cases, as Sporting Clubs, Athletic Clubs, Recreational Societies...and they evolved into what they are today. Professional abd amateur sports in Europe are more like High School or College sports over there in the sense that they're part of the community and they have history. We're passionate about our teams, we're not just spectators.

In Greece we kind of have what you just described mate. The greek Basket League has some extremely competitive teams, some even being in the top of European basketball. They have a lot of native talent in them, but also many americans. (PS: the clips of fans you just showed are from the greek basketball team called Aris. They are a pretty good team)

Now to be fair, Partizan Belgrade atmosphere is probably the best in Europe, but Red Star Belgrade, Greek and Turkish teams are close.

Honestly I prefer Euroleague to the NBA, especially regular season, don't get me wrong NBA has more talent but they are half assing regular season games and half if not most games are totally irrelevant. For example watching Hornets vs Wizards this season is as senseless as it gets. On the other hand in the Euroleague every game has play off vibes. And when it comes to fans in Serbia, Greece and even Lithuania, Turkey, Italy and Israel they bring the whole experience to a new level...
But what most people doesn't realize is how different European basketball and NBA are, they are basically different sport with same/very similar skill set required to play both, the in game rules, the philosophy , the environment, the structure, everything is different...

It’s a different culture. US has fans. Europe have supporters, ultras and firms. Clubs vs franchises… different ways of doing business. Sports have different roles in society. That being said, European basket is hostile environment, difficult playing conditions.

Don't be ashamed that Americans don't take sports as seriously as us. You've got lots of other things going for you. I've heard you've got places of great natural beauty over there so you're probably all to busy taking long, calm and meditative walks and such.

  • @raider1297

Americans tend to watch sports the same way they live their lives, looking for entertainment and quick dopamine. The rest of the world usually watch sports for passion and loyalty. It's different.

Dirk Nowitzki ❤❤ I am from Germany and watched the whole playoff run from portland to Miami in the finals in the middle of the night, was amazing also for us germans. Also we become champions of the World last summer 🎉 but for sure US Basketball is better I am not delusional. But if the best US Basketballer would play vs the best of Europe. I think Europe would win. It would be a really close match for sure

  • @lordmordred33
    @lordmordred33 Před měsícem

In terms of success Pau Gassol may be better than Nowitzki... In terms of talent there's no doubt, the best european player that payed in the USA was Drazen Petrovic.. A couch that not understood his talent an a couple injuries prevented him to be recognized, and when finally managed to be transfered to a team where he had some chance to bright he died in a car crash...

As a American watching the nba for like 20 years, I can confidently say the NBA sucks now! I blame Adam silver and queen James for making the league soft. Even more when it comes to the fans, Especially being a lakers fan being from LA, when you have celebrity row at staples center that alone makes it more why the atmosphere sucks. Those “celebrities” or ppl that have money don’t care about the game. They’re just there for a show. And like I said the product sucked with players not caring about defense, carries, travel, tiki Tak fouls etc. I can’t stand the nba anymore.

You are not the same as the American sports fans, so exclude yourself when I say this Luke. Y'all are not built like us. At all. I would face all of Boston before I faced one Olympiacos basketball fan. You can't understand how they ride for their teams.

Going to different topic, brother will you react on Zakir Naik's video? He is a Indian person that memorized the whole Quran, Bible, Vedas, Hadith, Torah etc. even with the chapter and verse number.
Watch his speech vs American atheist, speech on "what is wrong for childs who born in non-muslim family" etc. I am 100% sure you will enjoy your time and also learn about different religions.
