  • Strangely, I wasn't able to find endless NES Prototype games that were unreleased. And a lot of the ones I did find were almost complete. I think that means that the NES was so popular that there was no way a developer would make a game and not release it. Anyway, here's a bunch more Protos!

    The NES EarthBound in Japan was called Mother and the SNES EarthBound was Mother 2 but the GBA Mother 3 is for the time being Japan only.

    A lot of these unreleased NES games were released on the Famicom and other regions :) Dragon Wars was released on the Famicom. Earthbound was released as Mother, Makai Island was released as Pirateship Higemaru on the Famicom, Mickey Mouse - Dream Balloon was released as Mickey Mouse III on the Famicom and as Kid Clown in the US = Kemco wanted to release it as Mickey Mouse - Dream Balloon in the US but they got notice before release that they didnt have the rights for Disney characters in the US (only for Japan) = thats why they changed it to Kid Clown for the US market, Squashed was released as Ninja Jajamaru: Ginga Daisakusen on the Famicom = Jaleco was afraid to put out that game in the US because lets face it its a blatant Super Mario Bros. 3 rip off, Time Diver EON Man was released just in the Asian markets (not Japan) as Time Diver Avenger = Ultra Healthy Video Game Nerd did an excellent video on the history of the game czcams.com/video/xZfrIgEwXDE/video.html Titan Warriors was supposed to be a sequel to the Arcade game Vulgus.

    For the game “Happily Ever After” you can cross the water section.
    All you need to do is press the B button twice and she will spin for a long time and you can cancel the spin and after that, there will be a giant flower platform that will come right up for you to be able to get to the other side.

    Mickey Mouse Dream Balloon is the Japanese version of Kid Clown in Night Mayor World. They changed the name and characters due to copyright issues.

    Mickey Mouse Dream Balloon seems to be the prototype for Kid Clown, which was released a year later. It's called Mickey Mouse 3 on Famicom. I assume the North America version was renamed as Kid Clown because of a licensing issue.

    I watched a playthrough of Happily Ever After and idk how you trigger it, but a giant lilly pad pops up at that body of water and you jump on that to cross. Ive seen that game on cartridge online and was thinking about picking it up. It looks like it be a decent NES game

    • @GregsGameRoom
      @GregsGameRoom  Před rokem +1

      Hm, a cartridge would be a repro then. Would probably be worth getting for $50 or less I'd think.

    • @blackenedheart9592
      @blackenedheart9592 Před rokem +2

      @@GregsGameRoom yeah it's a repro. But I have no problem with them. I've bought repros before on the NES, SNES, and Gameboy. People get all mad about repros, who cares? If you're able to play and enjoy a game you really want to play then who cares?

    Jeez, Hard Drivin' on the NES? It was probably for the best that it was never released, as even the Genesis and SNES struggled with it. I think Sunman is meant to be played at 50hz, as I remember finding the rom listed as European, and it makes sense considering how absurdly fast the game runs at 60hz. I definitely need to play Time Diver Eon Man, as it reminds me of Power Blade, another excellent action platformer made by Taito. My guess is that they didn't release it because by its completion in 1993, the NES wasn't commercially viable in the US (the market it was developed for, apparently as a sequel to Wrath of Black Manta), even if Capcom was crazy enough to release Mega Man 6 on the system an entire year later.

    • @GregsGameRoom
      @GregsGameRoom  Před rokem +1

      Hard Drivin' is pretty impressive for what it is. I wonder if they used the same technique Elite did?

    • @michaellinke6448
      @michaellinke6448 Před rokem +1

      I thought I saw in a deep dive video that Earthbound development started for the NES, but the SNES was coming out, so they moved development to the new platform.

    • @seekerrsa8275
      @seekerrsa8275 Před rokem +2

      @@michaellinke6448 Earthbound was released. But only on the Famicom in Japan as Mother. The Earthbound released on SNES is in fact Mother 2. This proto in the video is a completed translated version by Nintendo and is known as Earthbound Zero. Later Nintendo finally officially released it as Earthbound beginnings on the Wii U VC etc.
      Back then it was risky because of expense for Nintendo to release rpg's and with the SNES coming out they scratched releasing it, even though all the work was done.
      What you describe I think is what happened to NES FF2 which was subtitled Dark Shadow Over Palakia for the US market.
