Novotna is a dangerous player to play. Every player who plays her has hard time playing her because she mixes the ball so well and she is dangerous at the net. It's all a mental game for her. She is a very stealth player and when she is on her A game. She is absolutely a difficult player to beat. Miss u Novotna!!!
Very true. Novotna was also very good staying back, and sometimes this quality of hers was overlooked. Very good point construction, tactics, court sense, and groundstrokes. It must have been difficult to face her because there wasn't many places to go or hit in the match.
@@alexsdb9712 The people who totally owned her like Davenport and Graf, even those who are typically baseliners, often went to the net and made her pass off the backhand side as she literally can't pass of that side at all, and she can barely lob. She regularly uses a slice, and can also drop shot, but she can't hit a flat topspin drive to pass and so if someone comes in off that shot she has an even harder time than Graf does.
Jana was tired of losing in the latter stages of this tournament, and took her frustrations out on Martina. She simply played better. Her victory over Tauziat in the final was equally deft.
Once you rally with hingis, she'll definitely trap you with her shot., but most female player of that era takes more time to hit a winner. hingis was a fast thinker on court. She's confident to change her shot early & it works. Being aggrasive is the only solution to beat her. Then, the William sisters came in. She was a kind of legend.

That was such a horrible statement from Hingis. But in fairness she said this in 1999 after splitting from Novotna in doubles. She played alongside Novotna and even made the doubles grand slam in 1998.

Hingis could be bratty but was typically very gracious with her opponents at the net. Great victory for Novotna here.

Novotna and Martinez are very tricky especially on glass. They can retrive Graf shot effortlessly.
