If you are using a tri-pod with your cam, get an old sock and stuff it with rocks. Put it between the feet of the tripod nice and snug. (thinking its a small one because it tipped) That will keep it from tipping over.

Watching him unroll those flags revealing their Recruit Division numbers was kind of emotional for me. I haven't enlisted yet but I will within 2 months and I can't wait to give all I can and try my best in bootcamp.

I definitely remember the layout of the compartments. I went through Boot Camp in 05 and the first couple of nights they had us staying in the old school ships. Thank god they moved us from out of those things.
Lt. Peters was always chill with my division. He never yelled at us (unless someone was falling asleep), he ran with us during our Pride Run, and he gave really good advice. Hooyah USS Constitution! Hooyah 012!!

You know the RPOC who stood at ease and the dude who saluted got their souls taken from them and ate by their RDCs.
Something a lot of people don't realize is if they do the I can't hear you thing a few times in a row, it has a real purpose. If you've ever done it you know that it is a little infectious and it does motivate you. It's because as you should you're taking deeper breaths back in suddenly and it just gets oxygen into your lungs mad gets your heart rate going and wakes you up. Improves your mood a bit and just *literally* gets you physically pumped up. You listen better you stand at attention better and you're more apt to get going and kill the game.

I entered boot camp in my early 30s, so I laughed a lot at how 'tuff' my RDCs' were! (If I were in my teens I would have been scared) ...Because of that I did a lot of sit ups and push ups, but I learned that it was like Simon Says! Once I figured that out, boot camp was easy!

It took everything in me not to laugh at the female officers. It was harder than the nicotine withdrawal I had. Actually it made it easier. Listening to these girls act tough, and yell all raspy was side-splitting comedy.
And I never got caught. Whenever these LARPs called female officers would get in my face just give em that 1 million (fuck a thousand) yard stare. It was like a talking blob trying to intimidate me. Funny shit.

They're living large and comfortable in those new barracks ("ships"). I was in the older barracks in 2000. We marched to chow. They had two galleys. Who the hell knows if they are even there now. Classes were in a separate facility.
@Greg About the time I was leaving, they were breaking ground on the new facilities. They look pretty decent. I'm assuming they tore the old galleys, and barracks down. From aerial photos, I can't even see the drill halls we used then. Things definitely change. The inprocessing building is the same from watching videos. We also didn't have live fire small arms training. It was only beam hit.
Everything is gone except recruit nex.

I was lucky enough that being on a carrier, the USS George Washington (CVN 73), we had a command drill team for the GW Battle Group, and I was selected for State Flags as I already knew the drill from “Band Camp”, as some would call our beloved 900-companies :) We got some frankly amazing privileges being on the team, and we were told to wear our team name plate and ‘white rope’ (similar to an RDC’s ‘red rope’) even in working uniform as we were first in line for chow, hair cuts, ship’s store, etc.; and not only were first out on liberty, but our liberty was extended too!!! (Side Note: Unless I had watch, I generally did wait in line as cutting that many shipmates seemed too pretentious to me.) Once, we had the amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity to perform for the mayor of Cannes when we got to France after finally being relieved of duty from the combat zone tour during Operation Southern Watch. I remember thinking “don’t screw this up” with not only the dignitaries, but the high-level brass that was in attendance too!!! Thankfully, it went well! We even got to stay for the after-party in our parade whites, and mingle with people that we never would have been able to otherwise. Needless to say, it was great for our evaluations! Flash forward 20-or-so-years, and I’m still great friends with Mike, one of our teammates, and sharpest drill-guys I’ve ever had the privilege to know (sadly, we’re both old, broken, and disabled now - a lot could happen in 20-years). Mike was hand selected by our CMC to run the Honor Guard. You make some great friends for life over the years while serving :) Please tell me if you have any interesting stories that came about from your days in “band camp”.

Hey JT, I have a question. I’m class of 2022 and I cant decide wether to go officer or enlisted. My plan is to apply to the naval academy and other colleges and take nuclear engineering (I plan to be a Nuke) and Navy ROTC. But if I don’t get accepted or dont get a scholarship I plan to go enlisted and do OTS (whenever that may be). Is it beneficial to eventually get officer by going the enlisted route or going the college route. Also when should I talk to a recruiter?
