trucks have been crashing there since the 1960s so i don't think the bridge is ever gonna give out. they can't fix it because raising the bridge would require modifying miles of railway and they can't lower it because it's directly over a sewer main.
how do you know that send me a link on the info
They could lover the road :P
@@eezZzee They can't because it's directly over a sewer main.
@@Avakadoman1995 they raised it lately search it up
They did it recently
Either the town or the railway built a sturdy steel support beam to protect the bridge, so the trucks aren't actually hitting the bridge.
I heard that Penske is renting the trucks to drivers are all warned to not go anywhere near this bridge because insurance won’t cover damage done by it so all the repairs are on the drivers
They need to rename that bridge "The can opener" bridge 🤓
You're about 10 years to late on that one. It's been know as the can opener for a long time.

Penske is a rental company
Maybe they'll look the other way if it's returned with a full tank of gas
Nice I was gonna say it thx lol I'm like who's gonna say it
@@Gamerboy-gy1rl well at least the back is clean sun roof and all
There's a Crash bar about 6 feet before the bridge, that's what the trucks are actually hitting not the bridge itself. Crashes average about 1 a month, no matter how many additional warning systems they add. Most of them are rentals being driven by inexperienced (when it comes to large vehicles) drivers. Also a little fun fact that I heard, apparently insurance does NOT cover damage above the cab (like what hitting a low bridge would cause).
I believe someone that lives nearby set up the camera. They have the website that they post these videos on. Also, I counted 8 Penske trucks. Even after they added a bunch of signs and warnings people still plow into the bridge. It sucks for them but it’s hilarious for us.
They legit can nor even blame the city, it's like. 8 signs and you KNOW how much clearance you have. I swear they can't read
The clearance of this bridge is just smaller than many modern trucks. It was built a long time before modern standards. There is a train track on top and water/sewer line just below the road. The height cannot be altered without significant cost. The railroad company put a bar up to protect the bridge. The bridge is not getting damaged by these accidents. The city put up many signs: slow speed limit signs, multiple height signs, warning lights, at one point a red warning that appears if an overheight vehicle approaches. It reduced accidents a lot but I hear there is still at least one accident per month. The camera is some guys personal webcam who works in the office building facing the intersection.
Also, Penske is a rental company. Most Penske trucks are driven by regular citizens. It’s the regular citizens’ insurances that are being hit.
09:13 "Two men and a Truck." "Well now it's Two Men and a Half-a-Truck."
I LOLed SO goddamn much!!! XD XD XD
This bridge is in Durham N.C and if u look almost all rental trucks not actually truck drivers
The Railroad actually owns those Bridges!
Fun fact he has been uploading. Since 2008 of trucks crashing into the bridge.
Love your videos, I do have an update to the 11ft 8 bridge, I think back in November 2019 they raised the bridge 8in and added a new I beam buffer in front of the bridge and their has been more crashes since then, his new Chanel is 11ft 8 +8. I guess the one guy owns all the cameras
Penske's insurance premiums must be through the roof lol
Nope, it's in the rental waiver... "You hit the bridge, we charge YOUR insurance, not ours". The thing that is REALLY annoying is that the truck route is ONE block over, and has a level crossing.
When you tell your barber to take a little off the top
The owner of that camera actually owns a business on that corner. These wrecks happen so often that he decided to set-up a camera to catch them all lol. the bridge height is unusual so people not common to the area no nothing about that bridge
I've heard the locals call the bridge the can opener
from a legal lawyers website "Since 2012 Penske Truck Leasing was involved in a total of 2713 reported vehicle accidents across the U.S. Fatalities resulted in 13 of these Penske Truck Leasing crashes. It is surprising there are not more, honestly"
At 11:12,
AWWW. FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT!!!!
I know the collisions are terrifying, but just the sound of the collision is so funny!!
It would cost the city many millions of dollars to raise the bridge or lower the road
11:09 - What happened to that possibility you brought up, of it being a camera he put there?
I like the last one 😂😂😂😂😹
This is why I hate box trucks. Anybody can drive them, you don't need any training legally to drive them and the drivers rarely if ever have any actual idea of what their vehicle's dimensions are. Most wouldn't even think about being too tall or too wide because they drive it like their personal vehicle. Carelessly.
not all box trucks can be driven by an average class c license if the vehicle weighs in at over 26,000lbs its required class b CDL or class A CDL
XDENT TIM I’ve never seen a rental truck that weighs that much, unless it’s carrying a trailer too. You can drive any U-Haul, Penske, or Budget truck with a class D license.
U-Hauls 26 foot (largest) truck is 20,000 GVW loaded with 7,400.(max load)
But the issue here is more with height than weight, from what I heard they have the height listed on the windshield so if you get behind the wheel you can see it. So the drivers are still idiots.
the camera for that bridge is because of all the accidents and there is a steel beam before the bridge so the bridge isn't damaged much the beam is on both sides. plus a lot of the trucks don't listen there is now an electric sign saying turn your too tall before there was just flashing lights that would activate when a truck passed a camera with a measurement addition
Notice how the white Volvo that hits the car earlier in the video is almost completely undamaged
As an ex truck driver here in Australia I can say there is nothing inside the truck telling you the height of the truck and none of the managers/bosses/maintenance crew knew the heights of any of their trucks either, I eyeballed it and haven't hit a bridge yet but I have has to back up from 2 bridges.....companies don't make it easy for drivers but yeah if one guy hits a bridge all the other drivers should have been told about that bridge.
I feel like they should mount a huge 10”pvc pipe off of a pole 30’ from the bridge hang the pipe at 11’6” and have signs and lights that say if your truck hits this your too tall for the bridge! Maybe that would solve the problem of so many hitting it! I know it won’t stop them all but I would like to think it would stop the majority!
Lmao there's one of those outside of KC - Olathe, KS. I'll see someone post a picture of another truck that tried to slide under
You should totally stream tomorrow
If they took the yellow sign out, most trucks would fit.
"What fools these mortals be!"
On the other hand, these mortals were simply following their GPS or Apple Maps instructions for the shortest route.
They seem to be making a race for those who throw the bridge down.
Actually, some of those moving companies don't cover these incidents, even with full coverage.
Fun fact the nickname for the bridge is the can opener
and the campers are probably like sorry kids no more ac for the remainder of the vacation
They're ain't Penske material.
from what i understand the local PENSKE tells truck renters about the bridge but other PENSKEs in other locations either don't know about the bridge or don't know where their renters are taking the truck.
UPDATE: they are FINALLY raising the bridge!
What took them so long? When it can be donem
@@otomackena7610 it's a major project that requires closing a major route into downtown
you feel so bad for laughing but the sound and the idea of the person driving that has just pooped their pants from the WTF just happened
pretty sure I read somewhere that damage above the cab isn't covered
That driver was permanently banned from Penske 8:49
Obviously over the years the bridge sunk so many inches from the trains above. They are reading the sign but the bridge has probably sunk 6 to 8 inches into the platform.
They raised the bridge to 12.1 now
Insurance does not cover this Bridge, all drivers are explicitly warned about this one bridge.
Would you react to kim chungha why don't you know debut stage
The bridge suffers no viable damage because it's a railroad bridge. It was designed to bear tremendous loads. It is constructed from concrete and solid steel. It has a deep foundation and lateral bracing.
Truck cargo boxes made from plywood and aluminum are like toys.
Unfortunately, there is no way to fix it. Nearby level street crossings make it impossible to raise, and a sewer line under the road make the road impossible to lower.
All that can be done is to verbally warn drivers, and instal a warning system. Both of which have been done, it some folks just ignore the warning.
The Penske is everywhere
Dude Penske is a truck rental company
so we just gonna skip over that u guys in the comments made ash afraid to read,no one gonna address that
also insurance and credit card companies do NOT cover these trucks so if anyone here rents these kinds of moving trucks get there highest insurance or you're gonna have a bad tiiiiime
Fun Fact: Penske doesn’t offer insurance for damages that occur on top of their vehicles because of how often these things happen, so unless your own personal insurance covers these sorts of damages, you’re paying out of pocket.
Most insurance companies don't cover damage above the cab. You hit the bridge it's on you, or in this case the 132 drivers that don't pay attention as of this comment.
Overhead damage isn’t covered by insurance.drivers or company’s have to pay out of pocket
person on top of coach at 7:19 ?
I want who ever built that bridge to build my house. 🙏
I drive a truck and I know my height I definitely would not try to go under that bridge knowing I'm not going to fit
On top of the bridge is a Rail line and the Railroad they won’t raise the bridge
And the city can’t lower the bridge because a pipe is below it and they can’t move the pipe
I think it's a private camera, you can hear people laughing in the background
They should lower the road if it's too expensive to heighten the railway line.
As much as I drive trucks I never got stuck under a bridge
the crash bar takes most of the damage
Do people read signs? I wonder how many people on that street take bets on who makes it and who doesn't
can we call the bridge the can opener?
i thought i had enough clearance
This is what happens when you blindly follow your GPS.
not only are there signs but theres also lights that flash if your trucks too tall to make it
the bridge wont give out thease trucks are hitting a bar like 6 to 10 feet before the bridge if you listen close to some of them you can hear a ting then 2 thuds the 2 thuds are hitting the bridge
ryder budget and Penske are all truck rentals like uhual
its not public cameras the cameras are in office buildings that started recording
Not only are there lights that flash, but the intersection turns to red when it detects an overheight vehicle aproaching, so they have time to look and read the signs.
Most of these guys are going fast because they are speeding through the red light also.
Fun fact: Those who don't know where it's at, its in Durham, North Carolina.
How far from Charlotte
@@alexthemtaandr211weatherfa2 144 miles
I seen this happen wth a miniy excvater he did a lot of damage to the mint excvater a the bridge
I don't think that was a public street camera. I think it was form someone apartment window.
Your supposed to know your clearance height so that you can avoid these situations.
that is a bridge destroyer
5:30 it is a home video camera
2:25 is that driver banned from enterprise in North Carolina
You know all those trucks are rentals
Commercial vehicles only require liability insurance. Just like non commercial vehicles.. As long as the other party is covered, the law is satisfied. You only MUST have full coverage if you're still paying for the vehicle (to cover the loan).
9:25 driver you're banned from Ryder for one year
Doesn't anyone use a sat nav! Aĺl you have to do is choose a route without low bridges!
This bridge is famous for eating rental trucks that are given to people unaware of the trucks height
You'd think by now they would have decided raise that bridge a few feet. I wonder if there is some technical reason that isn't feasible.
I went to that website's FAQ, which has that very question.
"Can't the bridge be raised?"
"Here, too, the question is who would want to pay the millions of dollars to raise the tracks a couple of feet? To accomplish this, the grade of the tracks would have to changed on both sides of the trestle, probably for several miles. That would require rebuilding all trestles in Durham. And NS would have to shut down this busy track for months. I don’t think they are interested in that idea."
several other bridges, including 2 other low ones, a dozen level crossings, and basically relaying the track over the entire city would be necessary to raise it more than the 8" they did in 2020... The fact is that a level crossing, no bridge at all, is one block up if you turn right there.
Its that stupid sign that ruins most of the trucks in some of these clips. LOL. The bridge itself is fine, but that stupid yellow bar is the issue. But Penske, LMFAO. They don't learn. I just KNOW the CEO was LIVID beyond comprehension.
The bridge is cursed
Did that driver get banned from renting enterprise in North Carolina 4:54
You’d hope that those moving trucks that hit the bridge are empty. Otherwise, all your furniture, appliances, and other stuff would get damaged or even destroyed.
My truck is 13-6 I know it definitely won't fit under this bridge
BTS You Laugh = You Lose [Ultimate]
Rails on top
Oh 11' 8" Bridge. This truck is 12ft high so should fit, right?
There should be a sign "Low bridge, seriously dude, we're not kidding".
Us truckers call these bridges can openers
Aww fuckin ballsack.... yep, I'm stealing that one!
You must be part Irish, we're always coming out with mad shit like that.
There is a train track on top of the bridge
And they the city can not get the to up
That bridge needs board that would count how many trucks it fucked up
That'll buff out
Must be a nasty experience in the front seat of the truck when it slams the beam. Some will hit the beam hard enough to wheelie.
those are rental trunk penske cannot fire them and some are company driver
YS studies 👈😁👍🙏 Aki 👈
Budget, enterprise and Penske are all Rentals. That's why they didn't warn the drivers lol
The local Penske warns everyone that rents about the bridge. It's also apparently in their rental contract that damage cause by the bridge isn't covered by their insurance.
That bridge is pretty famous in Durham and surrounding areas, I had heard of the bridge before and I live around an hour or so away.
If you rent a truck in a city with a bridge that is notorious for doing can openers reference your route
Mostly rental trucks, rented by idiots that don't have a cdl! By the way these can bodies are pretty cheap. About $2000 to just replace!
You left out a zero. Also note how many smashed a refrigeration unit, what would that be, another 5 to 10 thousand?
Why dont they have a sign hanging before the bridge, if you hit the sign you will hit the bridge. We have that here in my town. so they don't have to actually hit the bridge to know.
I've heard it's because that road actually has quite a bit of truck traffic because of businesses on the side street getting deliveries.
I also read that there are oversized "oversize" warning signs and lights for a solid half-mile before the beam.
Most of the people driving those box trucks and Penske rentals are not company drivers. They are average everyday people renting them and being oblivious to signs
Why don’t they make the bridge taller
I don't think it's that easy. Then again I don't know shit about bridges.
