I threw with a house axe I bought from the axe throwing venue I play at and did quite well during our summer league tournament and realized that it felt like it was time to upgrade to a better axe if I was going to compete with the top players in our league and decided to go with the Ace of Spades.
I figured if I'm going to play with the big boys, I needed big boy toys to get the job done and after I got my Ace of Spades, after a few throws and misses, I remembered what Mario said about just flicking the axe and it worked.
I was able to hit 2 bullseyes and a kill shot with just a slight adjustment in my throwing style and can't wait till our fall league starts up in a few weeks! Good luck to me!

I am interested in becoming a rules official and scorer for a new venue opening in our small town. It will open just after Thanksgiving if all goes well. Can we get more rules videos that deal with tough decisions and dealing with irate throwers?

I started with the Competition WATL axe for my first league. Genuinely enjoyed throwing it after my first league decided to go with the Jack of Clubs and for far I’ve really enjoyed it. Go with WATL’s competition thrower to start.

The best axe is the one you can rotate consistently every time, feel confident throwing in competition, and you enjoy using. Period.

I feel the opposite. If you got the axe throwing bug, why wait to upgrade if it helps you to throw better? It's not like golf at all where it will cost 1000's for a top end set of clubs. At most the difference in axes is about $100 from a $13 Harbor Freight hatchet to a pro-line WATL brand. Personally, I'm no champion, but throw equally well with either. While started with cheapies, most beginners I see buy a top end axe do better with the best ones after they get the initial jist of throwing. Then they stay in the sport much longer.

Let me be more specific: You throw your axe and it sticks then your other foot steps over the 12 foot line one second later. You stop and go no further. Then the official scores a bulls eye. Technically does the score count? You did cross the line before the official scored your throw, but you did respect the idea of not pressuring the official. I am thinking the score should count. Am I correct?

I disagree, bought a corporal after my first time throwing. I don’t regret it.
It was more comfortable then a comp axe.

Because you told me not to buy the better axe caused me to buy the better axe. Boss salesman.

    That's not a axe, it's a hatchet.
