I just love love LOVE the volume and clarity/presence of the sound in your videos!! Such a relief when a CZcams advert comes on while watching and I forget to quickly turn down the volume but no ear r@pe because i already had the volume down for your vid. 😅🤣 ty!!
I LOVE mine, but then ambient drones and soundscapes are very much my bag... In the DAW there are many ways to combine delay, glitch, reverb effects, but as you say the combination of these in the Microcosm goes beyond the sum of the parts. The presets: mosaic, blocks, seq go way beyond what you might achieve easily in combinations of other effects - unless you automated the living heck out of the combination of FX in the DAW. I find the instant gratification from the sounds right off the bat make me reach for it time and again.
Wooo let’s go! My fav pedal!
I love the microcosm. its a go to for any sound I'm using when making tunes.
Hey Gabe - Nice one! 👍 This has created so much interest I gave in to my GAS and bought one although they are unfeasibly expensive when you include obscene shipping charge and tax in the UK 😱 I'm currently reserving judgement... 😀
I currently own: Circuit Tracks, Microfreak, Wavestate, and am saving up for Model: Cycles and....Hologram Microcosm. Can you tell I watch your channel, as well as RMR much? (and Ricky Tinez, to give props where they are due). Thanks for putting out awesome content, as well as the transparency of this review. I'm with you - as most of my day is spent in a pretty mentally taxing job, nothing is better to unwind then sonic exploration. Keep up the great vids, Gabe! And yes, I WILL be getting one of these soon. Yesssss...
Wow! That Microfreak demo sounded awesome 😮
😅😅. How come everyone who gets a complimentary Microcosm has never any negatives
This machine is not the perfect piece of gear.
I own one and yes it has its drawbacks too
but no one seems to talk about it.
The gain output is miserably low besides it sure could have had an input and output control
Ofcourse the Microcosm is unique and it’s for ambient granular atmospheric “ scapy”results.
It’s definitely on the higher price tag maybe the newer Chroma Console could do better justice at a cheaper bargain
The looper is where all the magic happens... Try putting a Raster 2 in front of it... That will keep you busy in sound ecploration for quite some time... ☺️
Nice presentation....thx 🎼
Just got a Big Sky Midnight Ed. hooked up to the JU and it seems like you can burp into this thing and it still sounds good.
My heart is already sold to the Zen delay, but it’s also sooo expansive. Not to mention I still would need a reverb pedal
A "Gear acquisition syndrome inspiring" device. Damn! Consider getting a trademark for that. Another great review.
Thanks for the review and for taking the time to dive into its features. I'm on the fence with the Microcosm atm. Yes, it's expensive (even more so when you factor in shipping outside of the US). Yes, it may get me to ambient magic in short order. Yes, I could easily integrate it into my workflow. Do I want it? Hell, yes. But. Buuuuuut! It's kinda become ubiquitous now. I'm seeing it everywhere (although to be fair I sub to a lot of similar synth channels) so everyone's content is now sounding the same. Not sure I can justify the expense rn. Gonna keep my eye on it and save it for later this year (along with the Meris Ploymoon)
I have this; I also have the Strymon NightSky. Does one fit the space of the other? No. They're different, very much so. I also have an Empress ZOIA. Again, different beast. I could probably do some of the things that the NS or MC does - but I use the ZOIA as more of a swiss army knife pedal, because it can do so much.
i keep mine with space off and use the nightsky for reverb and it sounds amazing
2:32 - that sounds really good!
Nice vide!
Hey, I've just picked one of these up, just wondering what the best way is to chain these cable to something like an MPC?
Nice review as always dude! Looks like such a great pedal, but yeah, I think I'd rather put my money elsewhere.
Very Nice ,,My ZOIA though.... it does more..
Cool review. Note: you've got some plosives happening. You might want a better pop filter, or just get it out of the range of the plosives.
..yes, and/or a hi-pass filter
Is this plugged in-line from the keyboard to the DAW and recorded as an audio track?
these things are immense, as a guitarist who also loves hardware samplers/synths i really want one of these, but here in australia they are close to $900 and thats a big spend for a pedal
Where were you looking? Not the Hologram website I’m assuming. I’m in Australia too and with the conversion + postage it came to about $680
@@evedotcom not sure if it’s being calculated properly. It’s $459 for the device (USD) plus $50 usd postage which total about $692 aud. But you’ll also be paying import fees on this from our customs before they will release it to you which will be just shy of $150 which is around $842.
It’s a bummer they are not supplying these in australia at the moment so our only choice is second hand or direct which added import fees.
Second hand in stores I’ve only seen a handful and they are starting around $700 and on gumtree of fb marketplace around the same price. If it’s under $700 I’ve not seen them last longer then a few hours
Heya Gabe-thank you for posting! Ummm-but what about these cheapo Behringer synths? *Pulls Leg* 🙂 Thanks again
Neutron is super good though
This or the Eventide Anthology XII? Plugins or Stompbox? That is the question.
I looked at the infinite jets a while ago but read that it had significant tracking issues - as in, it struggled to accurately pick up new notes for the loops. How does this do on that front?
I've not had any issues with it personally
@@GabeMillerMusic great, thanks!!
Bro! This is the second time this has happened now! First with the neon and now with the microcosm haha (my video from 5 days ago) Maybe I should just be your episode idea consultant for you. :)
Haha what are the odds? I filmed this a couple of weeks ago, I guess we're just on the same wavelength
Lol were you trying to play Batman Theme? 1:14
I want a Microcosm so bad 🥵 gonna be saving awhile in this economy
I was just about to Google this device 🤦♂️🤣
Perfect timing! Hopefully the video is helpful
Way too Nerdy, lol! I can't wait to send some synths through mine. Hope I don't become an addict.
can to do a tear down? or at least put some pictures from inside?
Is there a VST that is at all akin to the Microcosm? Thanks Gabe, great video!
I'm not sure about the looping bits, but I've found Spaced Out by Baby Audio gives similar vibes with its reverb and delay.
@@GabeMillerMusic And not forget Valhalla. Supermassive is free and can do a lot of that spacey reverbs and weird delays.
Output Portal and Movement-I consider working with those is a somewhat similar experience to working with Microcosm.
Replying to myself, here: it seems the new Fragments from Arturia is pretty Microcosm-ish. :)
@@GabeMillerMusic to add to this, mixing those with fragments or digitalis will give you some similar sounds.
Hologram Microcosm is a 20th century pedal (with some lights). Zoia and Beebo are 21th century effects computers with a complete interface. 😜
Sadly they don't ship to UK so can't buy one.
