- Hologram sent over the Microcosm pedal, its a bit of a glitchy looper granular sampler pedal, make sense? At first i thought id only use it as a looper, but i quickly realized i loved using the Glitch FX much more for creating interesting basslines or chopping samples. It has Full Size midi in which is great to sync the effects pedal to Ableton or anything midi. Stereo in and stereo out as well. A lot to lvoe, and a bit too much to remember at times, but once you get used to the workflow of this FX pedal its a great "Guitar" pedal for synths :)

#LooperPedal #Microcosm #Octatrack - Hudba
The most impressive thing about this video isn’t the pedal, it’s you navigating that infernal Octatrack with such ease!
My goal in life is learn to use anything as well as Ricky navigates around his Octatrack.
Start with the Digitakt, then go to the Octatrack. Not so tough 😉
Relax. The only Infernal thing here is in your head.
Argggggggh I have the same issues
@@leftmono1016 in my opinion, doesn’t matter how well you know the Digitakt. Everything is so straight forward on the DT. Almost everything on the OT is abbreviated and convoluted, so it takes a whole different level of effort to learn. That step up took me longer than I had imagined!
Just found your channel because I've been dreaming about getting this pedal for a looong time now, but I just wanna say I cannot wait to listen to the rest of your music. That little preview you gave of one of your songs is AMAZING. It's so hard for me to find truly unique and spacey house music without actually going to any clubs. Keep up the music and the videos, you got crazy talent
the speed Ricky presses those buttons he could be a pinball wizard. The only thing I dislike about these videos is that I always kinda think, this sounds amazing, I should buy it...
Just try to remember that buying hardware won't make your music any better. Do you know the ins and outs of all the effects, utilities and instruments in your DAW? It's easy to forget how many of them there are, and how versatile they are as well. And there are no shortage of free VSTs. I'm in the process of selling a load of gear for this very reason. Feels dumb having expensive hardware when the cheaper, easier, more versatile alternatives available to me are relatively unexplored
@@teamcoalhapcharcoal Amazing point but every time I go from Logic to my MPC 3000 a smile appears and my ears start working instead of my eyes.
@@teamcoalhapcharcoal working with vsts in Ableton reminds me of making a spreadsheet. Hardware is like making love to a human. Working with a DAW is like watching porn.
@@dyscotopia Jesus Christ
the groove that you settle into at 11:00 is unstoppable. darn you, ricky. i'm sold on this thing!
I've been fighting my FOMO with this pedal. It's an amazing pedal for synths.
fought, lost, ordered 🤣
Mine is a losing battle. It's just a matter of time...
Come to the dark side, we have Hologram Microcosms.
Ave don’t fight, get it. I would love to see it with a MPC One 😄
I finally gave up the fight yesterday ⚰️
Ordered mine today to ship to the UK after watching your review. Properly excited to get it. Thanks man.
Darn it.. this is one of those pieces of gear I could buy just for the looks alone.. Love that 90's utility grey with the multicolored logo!! Thanks for the demonstration man. You're getting some good vibes out of that thing! 0)
Excellent video Ricky! Just put in my pre-order and I cant wait for my first ever pedal!
Got mine last week! So so good. Paired it with my Microfreak and OP-1. Great review as always Enrique, got some shit I haven't got to yet.
"theres a looper on the blooper" is just beginning to be used as a sample on a tech house track
The vessel with the pestles has the brew that is true....:)
What a cool piece of gear! sounds so warm and comfy, too
Great demonstration, can see how useful this can be, great textures
Yeah. I like how it's adding those little subtle nuances to the loop that will help add variation to your track, like you said. Then people won't get so tired of hearing the same exact loop over and over, and grow tired of it after a couple minutes
This is the first non-guitar demo of this pedal. I am pretty impressed how well it handles various instruments. I want it even more now haha.
Always kill it bro! Keep it up, much love!
You one seriously cool dude. Love that you just ad lib and experiment your way through a demo.
Cool demo, thank you!
Really need this device. Great work man thanks and final beat is superb
that track you previewed was 🔥. another great vid ricky
the glitch repeat effect on that is sick for little chord stabs nice one

Thats THE REASON i sold my mood and pre ordered the microcosm.
Can't wait till it arrives
Definitely one of the best videos on this pedal right now. I've got a few Microcosm videos on my channel. The time knob is perhaps more important than people think (MIDI sync makes things much easier) and if whatever you're doing feels real meh, mess with your mod settings a bit and you'll find yourself again. It's quirky pedal, but when you hit a sweet spot there really isn't much like it.
Yeah, I’m a little sad I didn’t talk more about the time knob with specific affects. For example on the song that I showed, I had it set a notch down.
I preordered one in Jan and just got a notice that it’s been shipped...I never set my hopes very high w preorders bc I’ve had some long wait in the past (looking at your Arturia) but I’ve been very impressed with Hologram and I can’t wait to try this thing on guitar, eurorack, synths, drums and basically every sound I make for the next month - it just seems so unique and fun.
That's it, I'm getting one. The video that finally won me over! Thanks 😊
To think that I get the opportunity to watch Ricky in his element reminds me that I'll be doing the same thing in the future. Thanks Ricky
Yes, this thing is amazing. I preordered within 24 hours with massive hope. I bounced off their last one but this is pure magic. I put it after the Octratrack, I patch it as a send. It goes everywhere. The only problem is that I only have one. Two would be neat. Loopers with fades and layers. Jammed with friend and he said, "is it a magic pedal, a thing that makes everything sound good?" :D
I can’t wait until there are more of these available
I love the filter or coloring of your videos. Not sure of the correct term but it’s always relaxing visually to watch
The term would be colour grading and his is a vibe :)
@@PeterClotworthy ah thanx mate
SWEET !!! you are the best ..!! and this pedal that's crazy ..!!
I'm so late on this, but YES! Great and helpful video. Thank you!
during the explinations, i was like 'ye thats pretty cool'
then the outro jam started, and that swell of glitchy reverb after the kick was added and my mind just exploded and i was groovin so hard
Yoooo, straight up been using this on my minilogue since launch and the sounds are endless.
Damn that jam was delicious. The pedal gives it another dimension as well, I'd integrate it in my main setup.
Right here officer 14:40 , right here he makes me groove against my own will !
😂👍
I can never follow what he does but I like watching anyways.
Same. There's one where he uses the octatrack (or was it a digitakt and an octatrak) completely unaccessible yet mesmerizing.
Haha one day it won’t be!
@@RickyTinez Hahaha, we love you unaccessible as fuck, baby. Love from MX. ¡Pon tu ofrenda de muertos, Enrique!
indeed
Yeah. It adds a sublime and deft assurance. Inspiring. ‘Okay, this guy knows his shit... to the point of machine transcendence.’
just bought yesterday, stoked
Soo relaxing and interesting!!!
Absolutely sold me on this
I would love to see some of your work available in kits whether through Splice or another 3rd party, you always go crazy w the design.
What a welcome respite you are right now
We have so much to learn from you
Pinball ref “ how do you think he does it I don’t know what makes him so good “. I like that thing
You always know how to make weird fx things musical and give a track some serious vibe. I hereby promote a Ricky and Noir Et Blanc Vie collab. Let him play the keys patched however he wants, and you control the drums and the effects chain for both of you. LIVE! 😅
I LOVE mine! Had it for 2 mos paid extra on reverb no regrets 100%
That's incredible
cool jam at the end there bro..
Hey Ricky - great video that I’ve watched more than once. I can’t find a dedicated video you’ve done in the past about routing in general. For example - if you’re playing live and had the Microcosm as an fx unit for more than just he octotrack, how do you route all your gear (send/return vs insert), what mixer you use, how you route in and out of it, etc
Nice demo:)
You're the man dad!
@Ricky Tinez Love your videos!! I may not know/understand a lot of music lingo(I'm a visual artist), but its worth the rewatch to learn, however many rewatches it takes. Your music is DOPE!!!
super nice. thx
Very cool, like what that thing does
"the blooper's looper" [= Love it lol
I'm 4 months later, but just saw you can set the init to line level instead of the default instrument level, which should help avoid clipping
Preordered a microcosm and I’m super excited to get it. But damn do I want that octatrack
I’ve been wanting to play with this thing for awhile
I had just been thinking, they should send a Microcosm to you for a demo! I’m getting to know my newly acquired Microcosm. Watched your Ottobit video a bunch around the time that I got one on a blemished sale.
according to my notes, this video is dope
That outro jam was hot af
Watching these videos are like when as a kid I didn’t know how my mom did it but I was to watch her cool and eat good after tbh.
Too right.... I love portal....but this sophistication is crazy nice...
Great video Ricky. Now I am hooked. Need to find the $$$
21:28 the microcosm magic happened 🤫
I want this guy at my kid’s bar mitzvah
Yoo that soft kick is tAsTyy
I love mine. Throw a little crazy stuff over the mix.
I want to pre order soon
that glide thing got me sold! ahh why did you have to do this?
My kingdom for CV in!
Hey Ricky, superinspiring video, thanks! Hot mine yesterday, had most of the time no idea, what it was doing, but was most of the time superhyped about the awesome enhancements on a very cheap Microfreak Arp. One (noobish) question. Is there any switch or function to switch it off or at least put it into sleep mode?
Hi thanks so much - been searching for videos to explain the fx send set up on the octatrack - all seemed really complicated using different external gear - would you mind just writing the steps you mentioned on the video as a quick guide for doing this with loops - it would be really helpful cheers
Amazing video!! have you had any luck getting the looper itself to quantize to tempo sent via midi? My loops always seem to drift even when the looper is set to quantize mode :(
This pedal and this musik is true spiritual!
Great! Someone combined the Boss DSD2, the Ottobitjr, and the Dl4. Time to sell some pedals and clear some room on my board
sick.another one to add to the list of 500 dollar pedals i ll never afford but one can dream : )
Me: Oh nice, Ricky made a new video
My Wallet: Plz stahp
Love your beat at 11:10!
Sup Sol State, You and me see all the same videos 😂😂
Are you planning to look at the strymon night sky? I would be curious to knew e what you thinking and if you see it as a companion to the hologram or an overlap. Thanks
A pedal as an instrument is cool.
My fav so far is the Boss RE-20 (space echo).
Check out the Count To 5
have you ever messed with an elektron machine drum? id love to see what you could come up with using one and how you would approach the sound design
Great video, I am curious on the io, you have to use a single cable trs to sterio trs?
I am thinking of grabbing this but bit this is my only concern.
just picked one up yesterday.. was not easy finding one lol
Seems like a bit of a beast - but you seemed to tame it pretty good Mr. T. 🎧
would be really nice processed parallel
I just wish it wasn't so expensive. I know it has a lot of features but still , its a pedal right? I can justify the cost of an octatrack to myself because it does so much but £400 for a used fx pedal , seems crazy high.
18:34 sold it for me in an instant. wheres my credit card!?
Hello Ricky, congrats for these wonderful video, which one do you prefer the microcosm or blooper? I mean both they're awesome, but in terms of functionality
Which one did you get? Do u regret getting it?
Im curious what you would think about the Strymon Nightsky (reverb/sequencer).
Hi Ricky, Do i get right that u quickly record something in this box as a loop and then manipulate or is it an continuous feed from the octa?
This as a eurorack module would be really nice btw
Morphagene?
@@poisonousbirds This might be a better deal than morphagene, as it comes with a filter and reverb. Cheaper too.
They were talking about making a eurorack ZOIA but delayed it until further notice.
I plan on using this within a heavy eurorack setup as it is.
First thing I thought
15:09 When did you get a Roland TR-909 ??? Awesome!
I have and love this pedal, but am not sure where to put it in my chain. I have an Eventide ModFactor then the Microcosm, then Boss DD 500, then Strymon Big Sky. I almost feel this pedal should just be alone.
How do you prevent the OT display from flickering when you shoot your vids? Different frame rate?
hi. quick question what would be a good pedal or whatever to tune, or see eq of music coming out of octatrack. For example if I would like to tune the kick a bit. Or sub. At the moment I run it through ableton. But looking for some alternatives.
Peace, brotha...how is this thing on samples? Like if I run some Bob James thru it, will it have any decent effect? Or is it specifically for solo guitars, piano, drums and synths?
Nice headphones, what brand is that? Openbacks?
Its like old Instajungle VST ported to an fpga and stuck in a box. That and a thick reverb to cover up the pops that come from slicing waveforms mid cycle. I kinda want it lol.
Hi Ricky, I'm smashing my head trying to sync the Microcosm to Ableton and to ProTools with no luck. Is there a setting I should use in the Microcosm to slave it to the midi clock in my daw?
Any way you could do an octa track summit/peak video or a jam?
Have you tried the CBA Mood? I just ordered that over this last week. How big of a turn off was the mono on the blooper? Cheers dude great content as always.
It wasn’t a turn off at all, most of the samplers I use our mono so I’ve slowly gotten used to it. But that doesn’t mean that stereo sampling isn’t amazing. It is really nice, but I’m fine without it
