  • Soooo... I have plans for some different types of videos moving forward which will be additional to my normal demos. This series, Anatomy Of The Sound, will be a little different... for starters my face and voice make an appearance... I'm promise I'll get better at this!! Stay tuned for more to come over some different topics and things I love and hope you will too!!
    Right, on with the subject matter... this inaugural episode of Anatomy Of The Sound is an introduction to the Hologram Electronics Microcosm, more of an instrument than a pedal, thisthing rearranges, reinterprets, granulates and shifts whatever you play into it into a smorgasbord of atmospheric and textural delights ranging from subtle and complimentary to transformative and down right messed up. Enjoy as we explore the building blocks of Microcosm and overview the features that make this one of the most ambitious pedals ever designed.

    @adde65 Před 2 lety

    Another great review!
    Just got mine; took about 10 days from ordering it to land on my doorstep in South Australia (was expecting it to take months, after hearing how hard they are to get hold of).
    Like many people, I’ve questioned the cost/value of this pedal. After fiddling around with it for just a couple of days, I’ll say this: Consider that you get a very functional looper (with speed variations, reverse, pre/post effects, fade-in and out, quantise mode…). Next, a “standard” multi-effects section with a great stereo reverb (albeit not the most versatile), and modulation that can be tweaked from subtle chorus to warbly vibratos. Then throw in the whole granular, microdelay section on top of that, and hands-on controls that mix everything together in a highly usable way. AND it ships with a power supply for your country (don’t you wish every pedal manufacturer did this?). In terms of replacing Microcosm with individual pedals, you could easily spend 2-3 times as much, and still get something much less functional.
    At this point I’m still grappling with a few things. I like the looper last in my chain, but not sure if that’s where the pedal fits best. I’m also looking for settings that add subtle “backgrounds” to less ambient music. It’s so very easy to get lost in those swirly, mushy pads for hours…

    Amazing stuff! Two quick questions: what instruments did you play through the Microcosm other than a guitar? And secondly, were you then running it into amps or into something like an Iridium? Many thanks in advance :)

    • @ponderersounds3172
      @ponderersounds3172  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks man! I was running into two clean amps in stereo for the guitar loops, then the synth and piano stuff was Cabzeus into interface. My amps are relatively low wattage and sometimes synths smash them a bit much so I mix it up. This demo had guitar, vintage Casio synth, spitfire audio labs piano, a harmonics software instrument and some legato Cello.

  • @federicouffreduzzi2601

    Hi there! I'm not sure about one point and I would like to ask for your help. Can you use the Microcosm as an effect processor or the effects section (mosaic, etc) it's going to affect just the loop?

    • @ponderersounds3172
      @ponderersounds3172  Před 3 lety +1

      You don’t need to use the looper to use the rest of it. And you can change the looper position to be before or after the effects.

    Learned the hard way the Bad things about the Microcosm.
    -Crackles on Sound even with the new update. (they have a software algorithm problem)
    -Kinda works only with short burst/stab Sounds (don't expect results with pads or drones)
    -Not real Stereo input ( TRS is not a real solution) Hologram is definitely cutting corners
    -It feels extremely repetitive FX, you'll get tired after 5 hours of use, maybe 1-2 weeks with it, and it will drain your Creative juices
    -Uber expensive for this issues
    If you have the GAS go for it, but BEWARE of these know Issues
