  • Goodwood and Jaguar are a match made in heaven. In fact, the first-ever race winner at Goodwood in 1948 was a Pycroft-Jaguar SS100. Ever since then, the very best racing cars the manufacturer produced were put to the test around our historic circuit.
That's a tradition that lives on strongly today thanks to Jaguar specialist companies such as CKL Developments. For the second episode in our Goodwood Masters series powered by Motul, we spent time with this incredible team to find out what makes them tick.

So much goodness in that shop! And seeing the young men learning the craft is wonderful. I would've loved to have apprenticed at a shop like this sixty years ago. I had the interest, I loved the cars, but there were no avenues for that then or there.

That's true and the teachers we had were no help.I told them I wanted a career in the motor industrybut they said 'you don't want to be a mechanic'.I agreed but they had no imagination ......never heard of Morgan etc.

@@roymcgavigan5018 Here in the US during the early '60s, there were shop programs but there was a push towards college, those taking shop were looked down on. I had been testing in the upper 98-99th percentile so shop was not an option. I only got into car restoration a decade or two later, finally spending 1998 in a large shop building doing solo rotisserie restorations on three Jaguar XK-E bodies. Floors, bulkheads, pontoons, door skins.

What a fantastic place, thank goodness they're places like this. When I was originally involved in motor racing the D type had just been introduced, what a car. You made an old man very happy, thanks.

I thought I was going to enjoy this and it certainly didn't disappoint! I remember dropping in on CKL with my late father before they moved to the 'new' premises and it was just incredible the cars that they were working on. We even took part in one of their track days at Goodwood and they are such a wonderful, knowledge group to be around. Looking forward to the next episode.

Hello Chris, long time no see! In my opinion you have taken exactly the right route to retirement by setting up the company to eventually flourish without you. I did exactly the same by converting my company to an Employee Ownership Trust a couple of years ago and the new senior team are already moving the business to a new level. Great to see that "my" (well you are only ever a custodian really) old E-Type is still very much part of the CKL fold as it is a key part of the company's history. It was always a pleasure dealing with you and your team and I wish you the very best for your retirement whenit finally comes.

My dad ( who was REME in WW2 ) taught me how to wield a spanner commencing , I think , around age 8 . Loved it , and worked on all my own cars , but never really did it as a business , apart from buying crocks , doing them up ; and selling them on . In those days I could buy a car for a fiver & sell it fo 50 ; A huge profit then; Can't do it now of course , you simply can't find the cars & anyway they've all shot up in price
