DAWN WELLS' New Gravesite In Reno, NV (Mary Ann on GILLIGAN'S ISLAND)

Today, I take another nostalic and historic memory lane road trip. In this episode, I visit the famous gravesite of actress DAWN WELLS, who played Mary Ann on the popular 1960s TV sitcom GILLIGAN'S ISLAND.
Wells is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno, Nevada.
I also visit Reno High School, where she is one of their most famous alumni.

Steve I have a great memory of Dawn Wells this may take a while but it's worth it. I'm a Firefighter/ EMT and Dawn Wells was at a convention in my area near Baltimore and I had to go on shift that night but wanted to try and meet her, so I go to the Hotel where the convention was going on and did not see her all day. I'm thinking maybe she just came in for a few hours and left but I didn't give up, I was outside hours later ( 6 hours later to be exact ) smoking a cigarette ( No longer a smoker ) and a lady asked me for a cigarette and I gave her one and we talked for a minute and she went on her way. 2 hours later the same girl asked me for another cigarette and again I gave her one and again we talked but this time she asked me a question that changed my whole night. ( No not that question, get your mind out of the gutter people lol ) . Who do you want to meet at the convention? I reply Dawn Wells ,I've been here all day but I haven't seen her and she said I'm her Handler ( Person responsible for her while she is at the convention) and you are a Firefighter and Dawn was just saying on the way here she would love to meet a Firefighter ( They saw an Accident on the way to the Hotel and that had those 2 talking about First Responders and Dawn Wells made the comment and she would love to meet a Firefighter) than I show up. She told me Ms. Wells was getting ready to do a Q& A but told me to follow her, we went inside the Hotel and she told me wait a minute she would be right back, 10 minutes later Dawn Wells came out and asked me if I qas the Fireman, I told her Yes and she said I have so many questions for you. She asked every question she could think of like is it Hot, How do you build up the nerve, what do you you see through your eyes and so much more, she was really interested in Firefighters. I said Ms. Wells dont you have a Q&A and she said Yeah They can wait, this is more interesting after maybe 30 minutes later, she went to her Q&A but it qas a night I'll never forget. She was such a sweet lady and so nice and after waiting all day and almost giving up It paid off. I got to hang out with Mary Ann and even got a hug and a kiss on the cheek from her and she thanked me for my service and told me I was a true hero and I told her Thank you and asked for a photo. Sorry this is so long but I just want people to know how sweet she really was and cared deeply for her fans. I'm on FB if you wanna see the photo.

She was way sexier than the Ginger character, with a nice tan, legs, & a wholesome disposition!
She was my favorite of all the castaways. The TV shows in the 60's were the best.

Wow!!! The graveside of "Mary Ann". It seems so unreal, for as a child l thought GILLIGAN'S ISLAND would last forever. Everyday after school l would watch GI. I never realized that thousands of children had GI as a babysitter. What a great and kind actress! She was her mother's birthday gift. Thanks again Steve. You've proved yourself a winner.
Poor Mary Ann. She was a victim of the covid- 19 pandemic. Oh well, she had a good run, made it to 82. That's not too shabby.
I love watching Gilligan’s island I do own all three seasons and years ago when I was younger me and my dad met Bob Denver and Tina Louise at one of our malls it was such a great honor to meet two tv stars I watched growing up of course in syndication because I was born in the seventies. Rest In Peace Dawn Wells you are missed.

I met dawn a couple of years before she died,she looked so pretty and healthy,hard to believe she went so soon after that,you never know. Really sad
Hi my friend she was my favorite heart broke we lost her
She was having financial difficulties and needed help with her medical bills. Tim Conway Jr (yes, Tim Conway's son) who has a daily radio show in LA, had an impromptu fund raiser for her. I believe the generous people in LA and around the United States raised over 150K to help defray the cost of her hospital stay. She was the most popular of the Castaways and it was sad to hear of her passing. We're going to miss the sweet and beautiful Mary Ann.

@@kai223noa6 It really is insane when a person who was so loved has to pass penniless, after working her whole life. To know the Show you were such a big part of has been reaping royalties for close to 60 years. Yet, though the world gets to see you playing your part a thousand times daily, you receive ZERO compensation. That goes into the pockets of someones heir's, who contributed NOTHING. It would be nice to see America throw down a little help for one of its own. That door seems to be closed or rapidly doing so. We All hope that our Friend, Mary Ann/Dawn Wells has finally found some peace. You shall be sorely missed by us All.
This journey is personal as I met Miss Wells some years back and have the autographs and pictures of the to of us.

Steve - Dawn Wells was my favorite actor from Gilligan's Island. Whenever I saw her being interviewed, she seemed so genuine and such a sweet soul. I'm sorry you had such a hard time at the hotel. I really liked what Dawn put on her headstone as well as all the other interesting headstones and benches you found. Thank you so much for making this trip for all of us. My oldest brother Dave was cremated and on his urn was written Not A Liberal.... He had the same on a bumper sticker on his car. He passed from terminal cancer in July of 2017 at the age of 65, he had just started drawing his social security I miss him so much! I love that you check out other stones on your way through the cemeteries I love walking and checking out stones.

I love that you showed where Dawn Wells went to High School at. I just love Dawn Wells.
I read somewhere that Dawn Wells always would tell her Mother that " I'll Call you when I get there' , because her Mother would always remind her to call her whenever she had to travel abroad or domestically because she wanted to know she arrived wherever she was travelling to safely.
Dawn Wells and her mom had the same birthday, October 18. From Ms. Harper Stacey.

It’s really hard to believe she’s gone now. Miss Wells is so much a part of our lives. Her headstone is very nice. I bet you see lots of interesting things. Especially when a headstone tells the story of who that person was. It’s too bad you didn’t get very much sleep. But your video was excellent. Thank you so much!! 😊🦋

Her father was a prominent Nevada businessman, who Wells Ave. is named for.
I live in Reno. When looking at the smile face head stone my son is buried in the grass area behind you. He passed at 6weeks of RSV

I live in Reno, that spot you stayed at is a very transient area, especially nowadays, and there’s a pot store right behind it. 🤣
Don’t ever stay in a motel6 they rent rooms by the week. Very loud at night with either fussing n fighting or drug deals gone wrong.
I know that Motel 6 in particular not only is the traffic terrible it's always being raided by Reno P.D. on Broadcastify. The neighborhood around it is fantastic, but that damn motel is a problem. Best Motel 6 E. Yuma, AZ.
I want to stay in a nicer motel where the drug 💉 deals go right. 🤤

You forgot the random stand-off between tenants and po that takes about 8hrs.
Gilligans Island a great show,Mary Wells a great actress,I grew up in 70s watching.May Mary Wells,RIP.My mom Joyce Parsons passed away November 13,2020,she was82,she's with God and my Dad now.
She was the only actress I got misty about when I learned of her passing away. R.I.P Dawn.

I could have told you about where to stay. the place you were at is very loud as well as right next door to a dispensary that stays open late.
If I had known you were going to be here I would have offered you a place to stay and a home cooked meal.
There is a lot this area has to offer as far as history and other fun stuff.
Reno and the surrounding area has a lot of history to share. I hope it wont be another 30 years before you come back to our area.

Wow! That was quite a drive you made to get there! She was certainly a beautiful woman. Her old high school looks huge. Loved the scrabble puzzle grave. You were definitely grumpy after the restless night of sleep. I would be the same though. What a miserable hotel experience!

Aw, that's so sweet that she's buried with her mother. I saw a video of her from just a few days before she died and she seemed absolutely fine. So sad she died soon after. Seeing the other graves in that cemetery were very touching. RIP to them all!

They were both beautiful. I read an article where they interviewed Tina Louise about the of death Dawn Wells and she spoke very highly of her and said some lovely things. Although they saw each other infrequently they stayed friends throughout the years.

Living in Reno NV since 1979 oh yes we get lot's of snow here. I saw Dawn several times at the Reno rodeo she was always so sweet.
I never knew of any time Don Wells ever played a part "beneath" her.... She never chose parts that would cast her as "unsavory" ... She had class, and never cheapened herself... I wished I would of had a chance to meet her....
She was truly "America's Sweetheart".

Steve, did you go by Truckee on your way. I hope you stopped and read up on the history of the area. It was the site of "The Donner Party", the group stranded by snow. Lake Donner is there too. ",Island in the Sky", a film starring John Wayne was filmed there when the lake was frozen over🌟🌟

Now residing in Reno. But originally from Las Vegas and LA. Yep, there's lots of trailer park trash. That loud brawl, shows people have no considerations or respect for others. It's a changing city. Lots of new transplants moving in. Reminds me of Las Vegas 30 years ago.
Dawn wells family owned a moving company called Wells Moving Co. Here in Reno Nevada.
A true lady with a sparkling personality. She could make you smile when she walked into the room.

A lot of Motel 6 locations offer cheap weekly rentals that people without a home are having to use. Tempers flare with that kind of stress!
Dawn has a beautiful resting place.💖 It looked like Christopher Wall died on Dawn's birthday in 2010, but I couldn't really see it well. What a coincidence if that is the date. May they all RIP🙏💖

RIP DAWN WELLS!! A lot of interesting things at this cemetary! That headstone with the scrabble board (@7:30) got me. The bottom inscription "I'LL LOVE YOU FOREVER, I'LL LIKE YOU FOR ALWAYS, AS LONG AS I'M LIVING, MY BABY YOU'LL BE" is from my all time favorite book "LOVE YOU FOREVER"! Any mother with a son (like me) has probably read it and love it like I do!! I can never read it all the way through without crying (happy tears...of course). That was a great treat....Thanks Steve!!!

Dawn and her mom were born on the same day, and died during the same month.
