    We check out the different cup sizes on offer with each and how many different capsules are available for each type of machine. We also talk a bit about replica pods and the availability of these.
    The machines on show in the this review are the Nespresso Citiz Original machine from Magimix and the Vertuo Plus machine made by Krups.

    I would chose the original because the biggest reason they made this whole new capsule is basically so they could patent it again to create another walled garden vendor lock-in system. With the original you now have unlimited options with third-party cups as well.

    Thanks for a great review - as usual! The Vertuo line also has an additional issue: No upgrade path. As of the time of writing (19th of October 2020), there's nothing even remotely close to matching my Nespresso (Original) Lattissima Pro. The Lattissima Pro can do Lungo just fine - I think it maxes out the cup size at around 400 mL, but you can always just press the button again for more (although the coffee will taste thinner if you don't use another pod).
    The Vertuo line has a larger water tank than what's currently available for the Original line, but I don't find it a useful feature with the amount of use we have. In any case, making a continous water flow with an arduiono and a stepper motor isn't exactly rocket science, so if the need for this is there, then it's easy to just do that.
    As a programmer, I'm not very keen on the Vertuo having bar codes. I know that it seems very clever by design - but it also limits the way we can customize our coffee. Maybe I'm just spoiled by my Lattissima Pro - but the range of choice in this one is what makes it so good imho. In fact, the only thing that could make it better would be the opportunity to program temperatures for the coffee and milk separately and for each type of cup - along with more presets. Oh and a tilted display would be nice too.
    Until the Vertuo line gets up to speed in terms of features, I simply don't see myself buying one, even if my Lattissima Pro should fail beyond repair. In that case, I'd just buy another Lattissima Pro.

      Yeah I'm not too keen on the barcode system either and generally prefer the taste of the original coffee. I'm actually trying to get hold a lattissima pro to review at the moment but from everything you've just said, it sounds to me like your next machine might be a Creatista Pro 😂 as it has most of the things you've just asked for.

    • @JakobDam
      @JakobDam Před 3 lety +1

      @@A2BProductions - I considered the Creatista series, but laziness won me over ^_^ I mean, I have to pour the milk in manually with the Creatista, whereas my Lattissima does it for me. One touch and lots of stuff to choose from - I very much like that. I actually considered just building my own, but came up short when trying to figure out how to build pressure at 19 bars ^_^

    • @ginsederp
      @ginsederp Před 3 lety

      To be fair, barcodes can store more than just an ID for a particular type of coffee setting. If they're clever about it, they'll have different numbers on the barcode represent different settings for the machine to match (1 digit for temperature control, 1 digit for cup size, etc). This would make it a far more versatile system. If the barcode isn't encrypted in some way, it'll even allow 3rd parties to copy the barcoding after the patent expires.

We’ve also purchased less coffee away from home since having the Creatista original machine - as the milk froth quality is so nice from that with it having a steam wand - so makes it more of a coffee shop style coffee. But I hadnt realised that I could have just bought the original machine and made double espressos with that and just added hot water to them to make Americanos. Kinda disappointed because I may have tried other cheaper non-nespresso pods. Or are the long coffees from the vertuo nicer than espresso and hot water from the original machine, in your opinion? And therefore a good purchase?

      One thing with that if you’re looking price wise for the Coffee is that Nespresso doesn’t make double espresso pods for the original line but does for the vertuo and therefore, using 2 original pods to make a double as opposed to 1 vertuo is actually a more expensive cup a coffee and will cost you more in the long run.

      @@mayaborkz2582 just use the lungo original line pods. They are much better than the vertuo coffees

    Does anyone know when the patent runs out on vertuo pods so that other manufacturers can start making them? I’m really struggling to decide on a machine that will work well for both of us.

      Also, are they going to continue making the original machines forever?

    Hi dude! For the better taste and flavor of coffee which one do you prefer?

      This is an easy one for us as we much prefer the original pods but not everyone will agree.

      I have both machines. Original line makes better tasting coffee by far. No question. Vertuo coffee tastes more bitter and burnt. Original line coffees are sweet and nuanced.

    Does the citiz make sufficiently hot enough coffee...I've read some reviews saying coffee is not hot enough?

    • @A2BProductions
      @A2BProductions  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi there, we'll be doing a video soon where we test the citiz against the pixie and essenza mini, but I did test the heat in a video against the Vertuo Plus not too long ago. It's on our channel page, hope this helps! I've never had a problem myself as long as the frother creates enough heat (for milk based drinks) or if I run a shot of water through first before making an espresso or lungo sized black coffee.

      id always found them to be a warm as opposed to hot. if you are not averse to wasting water, run a shot into a cup with no pod and then run a pod. seems to be a bit warmer second time around

      @mayaborkz2582 Před 3 lety

      I find it’s hot when you first drink from your cup but will get cold fast. I use a mug warmer to keep my coffee warm and that does the trick!

      This what I do... the nespressos take a few runs to get really hot. I put my cappuccino cup under spout and run it 2x using just water. This 1) heats up the cup and 2) gets water hot for you espresso shot. Then I dump the water and use warm cup for the shot

    The Virtuo next is absolutely awful. Constant red and orange lights flashing, over engineered machine which just provides a headache.
    The original is the best option as it’s a simple machine which is reliable.
