    Also another thing with the original line is that there are Nespresso pods designed for a Lungo shot that is 110ml of coffee, which is a small cup of coffee. I have the original line and my Nespresso machine can do a typical espresso shot of 40ml or a Lungo shot of 110ml. So it can do a small coffee as well. You just need to make sure the Nespresso pod says it’s designed for either an espresso shot or Lungo shot. Great video btw, it was very informative!

  • @cameronboden
    @cameronboden Před 4 lety +15

    My machine uses the original pods and also heats and dispenses water, so there’s no need to heat water for an americano or something with water depending on your machine. The other difference is the patent running out on original pod design means you can get tons of non-Nespresso pods. Having to stick with Nespresso brand would be a dealbreaker for me.

  • @bobp369
    @bobp369 Před 5 lety +17

    First off - the orginal pods are two types - espresso or lungo. The pod has more coffee for the lungo. Also - you don’t have to heat up water to add to your coffee - just hold the button until the desired amount of coffee is in your cup and release. Thanks

    Thanks for the info, very informative and entertaining at the same time. I am going with the Vertuo machine based on your video and several other reviews. One comment to make in terms of the pods... sometimes cheaper is not better. Nespresso partnered with a company who will recycle their pods and compost the coffee. I think it's very important to understand the environmental impact these plastic pods create, and I believe it's worth it to pay a couple more cents for those that will recycle vs ones that we just throw in the trash (and end up in landfills or water sources).

    Peter von Panda, thank you for your video, I enjoyed watching, great personality :-) I just wanted to share my own Nespresso experience (been a Nespresso user for about +/- 10 years now). Had the original machine (yes, loved the Nespresso pods and the aftermarket ones too!). When my machine conked out (it had a good long life, so I'd say still totally worth it) we tried the Vertuo. Unfortunately had a very bad experience with the machine, as well as with Nespresso service.
    The machine was defective and I'd like to provide some objective comments (as per my experience). Please excuse me as I'm not a very techie person but I'll try to describe as best I can... Because the machine grips the pods with "teeth" (that puncture the pods) and the pods are discarded by opening the lid (the spent pods should slide down, so you can then insert fresh pod for your next cuppa), this has a tendency to malfunction. This happened several times, with all the different pod sizes -- espresso, gran lungo, mug and alto (and I wasted so many pods $$$$$, not funny as they were expensive). I had to poke to dislodge the spent pod just so it would slide down.
    The other problem is, the Vertuo, during its malfunctioning hissy fit, didn't actually express any coffee, not a drop -- but because it already punctured my pod, it's basically useless and unusable (the old reliable Nespresso machine was much better - if you accidentally eject the pod, say you opened the lid, without having used the pod, you can retrieve it and just re-insert and still be able to use the pod).
    My Vertuo was doing funny things it shouldn't be doing (the buttons would light red and green and it was heating up like crazy, so I knew it wasn't quite right).
    I contacted Nespresso and they passed me around like crazy, no one really tried to help me. Initially I was happy for them to come fix my machine... when it took forever to get that sorted (they were passing me left and right), I got annoyed and requested for them to just replace my machine as I no longer wanted the defective one fixed. They sent a courier to come pick up my defective machine, and did not provide me with any loan machine, saying that the new one should be on its way in 2 days or so. A week later, new machine nowhere in sight. They were blaming Australia Post (whatever, I believe this matter should have been resolved between Nespresso and the courier, and I should not have had to stress over their courier issues).
    After several follow ups (emails and phone calls, call centre even all the way from NZ contacted me trying to solve the problem, but only made it worse by sending new machine to a wrong address), still encountered ineptitude and no solution. I finally had enough and told them I just want my money back, just give me a refund (because we bought it online, the Nespresso shop here can't take it, otherwise I would have brought my machine to the shop to start with).
    They wouldn't give me a refund and instead insisted on replacing my machine. I said okay, let's try this again - basically I was giving them a second chance to deliver a replacement machine (the first attempt failed). A series of comedy of errors saw my machine still not show up, not delivered, etc.
    I think I had given them enough opportunity to rectify the problem. Two long months, plenty of chances to fix this. I finally sent them a letter demanding they refund me in 5 days otherwise I will be contacting the consumer board -- they have my money (for the defective Vertuo purchase), they have my machine (they picked up my defective Vertuo), and I had literally nothing (when they collected my defective Vertuo, they did not provide a loan machine so I was without my coffee for so long, and the new machine was nowhere in sight)... It was only when I told them I will take legal action that they did something... took this long for Nespresso to act on my problem and refund me.
    The Vertuo is expensive and I was very disappointed with the machine and the service (considering that I have been a long time Nespresso customer, at that).
    I went back to the old Nespresso machine after this traumatic experience with the Vertuo and with Nespresso's apalling customer service. The new "old" Nespresso machine was a gift from a friend, as I was about to go to a competitor and just buy a different coffee machine! With the original type of Nespresso machine, I find it is more reliable, sturdy, pods are cheaper, and yes, there are aftermarket variety (so I don't have to be hostage to just using Nespresso pods, sorry I was just really quite fed up). That's my own experience with the Vertuo, and hope this helps anyone who is still contemplating which machine to get. Hands down I'd go for the old machine any day.
    Thanks!

    I find the Vertuo results in cooler coffee liquid. For a “cup” of hotter coffee” I use two pods and top up with hot water direct from the brewer - Americano style. My latest taste preference is 1 pod of Ristretto, 1 pod of Barista Choice all made Americano style.

  • @yordanpopov
    @yordanpopov Před 3 lety +3

    I found the taste to be different too. Original line coffee generally tasted better to me. It's hotter and not bitter or sour. Vertuo line coffee almost always has bitterness which I don't like. Also the coffee has more thick crema and is less hot.

  • @Rache_777
    @Rache_777 Před 5 lety +4

    I have the original line and since I love my coffee longer than the original single shot which frankly does not provide much coffee I always use two capsules. So when I add the cost of the two original capsules that I always use per cup of coffee and compare the vertuo single capsule price actually is few pence cheaper to chose the vertuo line. This is talking in British pounds here.
    I think Vertuo Line is classy and would prefer it to the original line but I wished when I was at work and forget my capsules I could run to the convenience store and grab a pack of capsules and solve the problem but with Vertuo this won't be possible.

    U can use longer pour for the original too. There are 2 buttons on the original nespresso machine. Espresso and Lungo shot. And nespresso also sells lungo pods too for people who like lungo size coffee.
    For me personally i prefer a ristretto size shot. Because those capsules are normally only contain roughly 5g of coffee powders. So yeah not recommended for lungo size

    I prefer my own grinder, espresso machine and getting beans freshly roasted from a local roastery every week or two. At $0.40 to $1/cup, for a proprietary system, I'm way below that on a cost per cup basis. I found my espresso machine used, and got my grinder for a wicked deal on Amazon (but good grinders come up used all the time too). I suspect these types of machines are more about convenience.

    • @wrybread
      @wrybread Před 4 lety

      Have you compared the espresso you make to one from a Vertuo? I went nuts on espresso equipment a few years ago, picked up a $400 espresso machine, a $400 grinder, lots of extra gear like a naked portafilter, fancy tamper, etc. I gave up though, I couldn't make espresso nearly as good as these machines make. It's possible of course, but not easy, and ultimately wound up costing me probably about the same per cup after factoring in all the sink shots.

    There's a few things I think you missed out.
    1. Vertuo machines don't have milk frothers like some of the original pod machines do. So if you like milk based coffee you'll need a separate aerochino.
    2. Although original pods come at roughly half the cost of the new pods, they also contact half or less coffee than the original requiring 2 pods to match.

    I ordered the vertuo plus because of the different cup size options... but I wish it was able to take 3rd party capsules cause it's so much cheaper ...where did you purchase 30 count for 25? 30 count is for 33 on amazon
