    Good day Jason! This was a great video yes! I do like to hear the "yumm yumm" sound of a big tractor in the background, as well as you having a conversation with the operator (farmer). It provides me a "closer" experience. Thank you, and please thank the farmers that assist you. "Office" workers like me do appreciate your time, and that of the farmers so much...

    This is off of Canton Pike. Food Lion is right up the street. My grandpa lives not to far from there. we usually take 272 to LBL when I was growing up in Hoptown. I haven't lived there in years but I come back from time to time to visit. I wish I could go back and farm with my cousin's in Todd County. This was the first field of the season right in town so the field is only 100!acres and in a housing development. They will get out in some 500 to 1,000 blocks. One thing I like about filming in a smaller field is I get more filming time. I film one farm in a 3,000 acre field and it is 15-20 minutes between times you see the tractor and planter.

    This operator is maybe too young but I kinda miss having a second tractor and wagon to dispense fertilizer and a pickup truck weighted down with bushel bags of corn that would be manual loaded into the six row planter every two rounds. Only the senior member (dad) would have the skill to drive the planter straight as an arrow. After 60 acres you head home and milk the cows two at a time before supper. Great video tour today! Thanks for the history lesson for 50 years from now!!

      Tractors and planters have changed allot. I removed the days of 6 and 4 row planters. I grew up by dairy farms. My neighbor was the largest in town with 200 cows and planted corn with an IH 686 and a 6 row AC 333. Another near by farm had a Ford 5000 and a 4 row Ford planter on his dairy. The big grain farm in town had a 4440 and a 12 row 7000 planter. All prided them selves on trying to get the straightest rows of corn.

      Our local Case IH/New Holland dealer is well equipped. Farms here raise wheat after corn and as the wheat is cut in June soybeans are double cropped into the straw and stubble. So a 2,000 acre farm here raises 3,000 acres of crops per year. It requires modern machines to run fast to meet the planting and harvest windows.

In June they cut the wheat and seed a second crop of soybeans into the wheat stubble. In October the cut the second crop of beans. It all works out pretty nice.

      Hi. Thank you for watching and subscribing. Good question Speed is limited by field conditions. In a square flat field with out stones the planter could run 10 mph. Here the fiends are not a standard shape, there are stones and obstacles to navigate around like the sewer manholes so 7 mph is a fair speed. I have filmed both red and green high speed planters here and 7 mph seems to be the preferred speed. The main thing is if you hit a stone at 8 to 10 mph most likely something will break.

    What options are on it?
    I see it's air down pressure not delta force
    He did mention it has the air closing wheels.
    Speed tube?
    Clean sweep?
    And the noise is alot less because of the size of the vacuum inside each meter is about a 1/3 of the asm meter so it doesn't take as much air. This meter only holds about 6 seeds on the disc at a time, the asm meter was about 40 seeds at a time

      Here is Western Kentucky the climate allows for March planted corn. As a result this crop will be harvested around August 20. On October 10 they will seed winter wheat over the corn ground. In June they cut the wheat and seed a second crop of soybeans into the wheat stubble. In October the cut the second crop of beans. It all works out pretty nice. A freeze is always a risk and in 2007 it hit in April hard but most years the corn does great.

      Here in France, we usually start in April like most of the area in Europe but some frosty days in May 15 th can damage some plants. Fuels raised again this month and that isn't good for farmers. Milk's price stay sables and with extra bonus on quality is now paid 340 euros/1000 liters. Not enough if you had to invest in barns and so on. Have nice weekend from Bretagne area.

    • @rileyzammert5421
      @rileyzammert5421 Před 5 lety

      TheLegend 27 Those are markers that are used if you’re not using GPS or doing the headlands. While you’re planting one of the arms is out, and when you turn around you follow the line back across the field. It’s a simple way to not plant over already seeded land or miss spots.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 5 lety

      They are a marker arm. Before GPS they were used on every pass to draw a line for the tractor to follow to plant perfect rows. Today GPs takes care of the rows. The marker farms are just used on the first loop around the field to mark out the headlands.
