Portugal had not been able to participate much in international tournaments such as the World Cup and European Championships until then. They only participated in the 1966 World Cup and placed 3rd. But they never participated in the European championships. Euro 84 to be held in France is a new opportunity for them and they want to take advantage of it. The only goal for them is to qualify for the European championship finals for the first time in their history. But there is a world giant in the group, the Soviet Union! It will be a tough adventure. Anti-doping measures against Russia are purely political in nature. Everyone knows that Michael Phelps, the Williams sisters, and the Norwegian cross-country skiing team took doping all the time. But WADA allowed them to do this because “they really wanted to win”🤣🤣🤣 And in 1983 there were already numerous disqualifications of players for doping. Most doping was done in Italy and Benelux. In the USSR they hardly did this.

I think Portugal was a bit lucky to qualify. The USSR played better than them, but a draw away against Poland cost them.
That was ussr only chance. Portugal play much better than then. Even hit the post before that shoor. Deserve to win.

@@LuisFerreira-kn2nn Portugal qualified for Euro 84 only thanks to Poland. If the USSR had won in Poland or Portugal had played a draw, then the USSR would have qualified for Euro 84.
