  • The 2018 season marked two very special anniversaries for the Pittsburgh Steelers - it was the 40th anniversary of Super Bowl XIII and the 10th anniversary of Super Bowl XLIII. So what happened when we had John Stallworth and Franco Harris sit down with Willie Parker and Santonio Holmes to discuss their respective championships? Well, there were a lot of good stories - and questions.

      Yes. That's who Stallworth is. Or perhaps I should say, that is who Stallworth had become by that time. After all, this was filmed years after he had retired from the NFL and had subsequently co-founded a very successful aerospace engineering firm. The aerospace industry is extremely competitive, and it is full of very smart and very confident people. Any pretenders will exposed in an instant. The fact that Stallworth was able to lead and gain the respect of others within the aerospace industry says a lot about the guy.

    Stallworth's 2 late catches in SB 14 were something to see and right when the Steelers really really needed them. The first one especially. Double covered, head backwards over the shoulder. Electrifying catch. His comments here at the end about quiet confidence is so true. These guys would score a clutch and important TD and just toss the ball to the ref. They acted like they fully intended for that to happen and had been there before. You can tell he probably winces at all dancing and showboating now after every score.

    • @thomasgorman1535
      @thomasgorman1535 Před rokem

      And when they said quiet confidence, our group of fans, these guys had us feeling the same way. As friends out of state and living in different cities, we stayed tight, finding out what city tv was carrying the only game that mattered, The Steelers. Like Franco said from 33 to that moment The Steelers were loosers. As fans, we grew up with pride, we may loose, but youse guys are going to pay. YA Tittle, sitting on his helmut, blood steaming down his face, NYG winning the game, but our defense made him pay. Every week thru the season the Sports front pages, 2, one had a full page size player with Cleveland, Green Bay, Rams, Baltimore, etc. The page on the right had this Steeler about 3 inches tall. So, when the Imaculate Reception came and changed NFL History forever, we had been supporters all the years before, now we stood even prouder, yea, we're the Steelers, what you got to say? Perhaps the greatest year, 1976, the Steelers had all parts of the team clicking after starting 1- 4 early losses. Terry was almost killed or paralized by a player who earlier had tried an awkward kick on Terry's helmut less head, picked him up, carried him about 10 yards, after the whistle had blown, and then turned Terry upside down and pile drove him head first into the ground. TBs limp body and both arms and legs were frantically quivering , shaking all over. A play today that might find the perp in cuffs removed from the field. The Steelers had perhaps the best team in football and had a chance to become Back to back to back SB Champions. The defense finninshed the season with five shutouts and a stingy 9.9 PPG, Franco and Rocky were both 1000 yard rushers, Stalworth and Swann with Bradshaw and Krewchek had just shy of 2000 yards passing. In the playoff game before the AFC Championship, The Steelers beat Baltimore
      40 - 14, both Franco (hip pointer) and Rocky (toe) were injured. Harrison and Frenchy had an injured leg, were our RBs did the best they could. Oakland disrespected the run and held our passing game in check. Oakland won a close game. Now there were years with some struggles, but as fans we had learned to be patient. And our future Steeler Teams came through and put the Steelers at the top again and again. Thank you all who wore the Black an Gold from 1933 to the present.
      Injuries have really hampers 2022, but it ain't over till it's over (Yogi).
      Here We Go !

      Let's be honest and realize Holmes wrote his ticket out of Pittsburgh by being a malcontent over money. His once-promising career dwindled rapidly after one good year with the Jets. That aside, it's nice that he worked his way back into the good graces of the Steelers organization and fans.

      @@spencerleiataua3173 ,. it shouldn't have happened, but David Johnson missed a crucial block that enabled Matthews to make the hit on Mendenhall. Of course, Mendenhall still takes all the heat for fumbling, but it WAS NOT his fault. I read the full details in the post Super Bowl issue of Steelers Digest, courtesy of Bob Labriola, and I share this information whenever I can. There's usually more to what happens on the field than our untrained eyes can see, so it's always important to go beyond that and try to find out as many facts as possible. Stop listening to the talking head idiots in the media who don't respect sports beyond buzz and entertainment value, and therefore don't respect US. Analyze what you see for yourself and come to your own conclusions, then get your amplifying information from reliable sources so you know what's really going on.

    I completely get where Stallworth is coming from at the 25.40 minute mark. If you Google or go on CZcams and watch Super Bowl 9 steelers versus vikings, it almost looks like the most boring game you'll ever see. They simply do the play then get backup and drop back to the huddle and do it over again throughout the entire game. There's no celebrating of any kind unless a touchdown has been made. You should check it out.
