The Return of the Durutti Column | Mini Documentary

In January 1980, Factory Records released 'The Return of the Durutti Column', the debut album of The Durutti Column, a group led by just one man: a guitarist named Vini Reilly.
Reilly had played in Manchester punk band Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds, but The Return of the Durutti Column's music owed nothing to that genre, save perhaps a desire for nonconformity. Nine jazz lead guitar tracks, augmented in post-production by a modular synthesizer played by Factory in-house producer Martin Hannett, resulting in a memorable record. But just as memorable was its packaging: a sleeve made of heavy-duty sandpaper.
