U.K. author John Wyndham (1903 - 1969) wrote several classic monster/creature-feature novels the most well known being "The Day Of The Triffids" (featuring gigantic flesh-eating plants that walk!) and "The Kraken Wakes" in which a monstrous mythical beastie rises from the ocean depths to wreak havoc. In "The Chrysalids" mutant monsters run rampant in a small English village. What more could any horror loving reading ask?!

Hi Anda. So I read "Dead inside" because of you, and I felt guilty for laughing so hard. Luckily I found that the author is a satire writer, and it's was intended to be that way. And now am gonna read one of your favorite monster books 🖤 it's Anda week in my reading universe.

When you started explaining ‘Summer of night’ that sold me! I’ve kind of been looking for something that took me back to summer holidays in the 90s!

Hi Anda! I am huge fan of H.P. Lovecraft, and it's various cosmic horror spin-offs. It's nice to see others enjoying it. Also, I've recently started reading Darcy Coates. Finished both Parasite and From Below, and enjoyed them immensely. She is a fantastic writer who knows how to build tension and suspense. (You might want to know that there was a mini-series based on The Terror on AMC+. It was pretty good.)

Another great list, Anda! Thanks :)
This got me thinking that Folklorian / Folk-Horror books could make an interesting video.
There's The Ritual by Adam Neville, Pet Sematary, Hex by Thomas Heuvelt, etc.
One of my favourite recent Monster books is 'The Boy Who Drew Monsters' by Keith Donohue: really creepy & unique!

I grew up in the mid 60's to mid 70's and I also love " Summer of Night "
So much like when I was young. And just a great book. I was surprised when I was watching Mike's book reviews and he quit the book before the end.
Oh well, everyone is different i guess.
I'm subscribing to your channel right now. God bless. ❤️

Great list. I love Cycle of the Werewolf, it is the basis for my favorite werewolf movie Silver Bullet. I just love the small town feel that King is known for mixed with werewolves, he does the same thing with vampires in Salem's Lot. While I would never argue against Call being his best work, I prefer Dunwich Horror and At the Mountains of Madness for pure personal reading pleasure. The Beast was a huge favorite growing up, I read it twice as a kid and loved it.
I read Summer of Night earlier this year and was blown away by it, especially something that happens to one of the main characters in the 2nd half of the book. Just an amazing read.
Jurassic Park was a huge favorite when I was younger, as well as The Relic. The Manitou by Graham Masterton, The Keep by F. Paul Wilson(the whole Adversary Cycle with Nightworld being an amazing finale), Necroscope by Brian Lumley, and Phantoms by Dean Kootnz are also favorites that I need to reread.

Great list! I definitely added more titles to my neverending tbr... 😅
"The Mist" is my favorite Stephen King short story, and I, personally, love its ending... the movie ending triggers me big time... 😕
About "Jaws", I read the book before watching the movie, and, frankly, I prefer the movie, it has the best parts of the book and leaves out the annoying parts... haha 😂
I also really liked "Dark Harvest"!! 🙌

  • @thefeldgeister2961
    @thefeldgeister2961 Před 4 měsíci

I grew up loving the "Jaws" film franchise and I still think the original "Jaws" film is perhaps the greatest horror movie ever made. I finally got around to reading the book about 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. The book and the movie really are apples and oranges. My edition had a listing of titles that Benchley was considering and I think he should have picked "The Amity Affair." "Jaws" is a better pick for the movie since the focus is clearly much more on the shark in the film as opposed to the people in the community in the book. To any "Jaws" fan reading this, I would definitely recommend reading the book. It won't be the greatest thing you've ever read, but you'll enjoy seeing familiar characters (and a few new ones) in a different light.

Great lists. Beast has a two part miniseries in 1996 with William Peterson from CSI Vegas. I would love to read The Swarm, which was a recent CW series and is also sea creatures. The Meg was so great to watch. Didn't know there was a book.
Ray Bradbury is a wonderful author. It's pretty amazing to see him on so many lists, especially Something Wicked This Way Comes. I read it in the 1970's. I had a professor call Frankenstein 'The Pregnant Man'.
Two 'new' categories you could include: 'Don't Go There' because so many books start with the premise of 'don't go to....' like The Ruins. Another one would be 'Modern Folklore' where there is a modern person haunted by a folklore monster: The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones and Pine by Francine Toon. They are amazing slow burns.
