How to make a 1/6 scale Strv M/39 - step by step

  • The stridsvagn (tank) M/39 was an updated version of the L60, made by Landsverk. It was delivered to the Swedish armed forces in 1939. The L60 was built in 3 versions, the M/38, M/39 and M/40 but the specification and design was almost identical - a welded hull, torsion bar suspension and a 37mm gun.
    Since Sweden did not take active part in the Second world war, the M/39 never saw action. However, the L60 was sold to Hungary and produced on license under the name Toldi. The Toldi was used alongside german forces during the invasion on the Soviet union and operation Barbarossa.
    This model is a scratch built 1/6 scale model made by plywood, plastic and aluminium. The tracks, drive wheels, road wheels, idler wheel, suspension arms, details and turret are all 3D-printed in PLA+. The printer used is a FlashForge Finder, except for printing the turret, that is too big for the Finder. The propulsion consists of two 12V screw drivers, connected to the drive shafts via two bicycle chains and two belts. The drive shafts consists of M12 screws.

    In a world full of 1/6 scale Tigers, Leopards and Shermans, how refreshing it is to see this interesting subject being modelled so painstakingly.

    Hi Erik just wondering if I could pick your Brains with a few questions? I was wondering what you use for the pins on the track and how you hold the pins in position? Also if you were to buy a 3d printer now what model would you chose?

    • @builtbyWikander
      @builtbyWikander  Před 4 lety

      Hi, was sure I had answered you already - any how, the pins I use in the tracks are 1.5mm piano wire. I prefere to use a thin wire to maximize the thickness of PLA around the track pin hole. I do not have a special way of keeping the pin in place, but I put a drop of super glue or epoxy in the holes at the end of the tracks. I always save one pad, though, to be able to take the pin out and brake the track if needed. If the tracks have pins that ends outside of the track, like on my Steyr RSO, I glue a little printed cap over the track pin to simulate the original. Thanks for watching!

    Éste ha sido uno de los más maravillosos trabajos que he visto en mi vida. La perfección en cada detalle cada remache, cada panel, las herramientas, el sistema de suspensión, replican de manera fehaciente, al modelo real. El nivel de destreza del creador de esta maravilla artesanal es sencillamente espectacular. Modelismo a escala épica. "Maestro Modelista": "Te saludo con todo respeto". Hermoso trabajo. Recibe mi cordial saludo desde Guatemala, la Tierra del Quetzal, símbolo de la Libertad.
