Will the new DISCRAFT CICADA replace my FAVORITE FAIRWAY DRIVER (Cicada vs. Crave, FD, and Hawkeye)

- Chris tests out the brand new Discraft Cicada in an open field and compares it to the Axiom Discs Crave, Discmania S-Line FD, and Innova Halo Star Hawkeye). He also throws the Cicada on a couple of holes at Chattahoochee Pointe Park, and sees how the flight compares to both the Buzzz and Passion to see how it fits in the Discraft lineup.

fyi the Hawkeye (and Dark Rebel) and (old)FD are the same mold. the TL is a different mod. If you're holding a brand new FD, then it's a new mold and should be slightly more stable.

So innova used to make discmanias discs back in the day, but when they split Innova kept the rights to the molds. The original FD mold designed by DM is now called the Innova dark rebel. This mold was then tweaked slightly and is the Hawkeye. (Fun fact, a higher up at innova did an AMA and I was able to ask him about the difference between the DR and Hawkeye; and he told me the DR is made to be as close to the old FD as possible, including plastic blend, while the Hawkeye is more likely to be tweaked as time goes on)
The new DM FD is it's own separate mold but obviously takes heavy inspiration from the old FD mold. The dark rebel is my favorite disc in my bag and there's a reason it's a classic! Sorry for the wall of text I just find all of this stuff super interesting

I'm new to discgolf, my arm speed is right around yours I would say, this video was great liked the comparison you did. My bag has alot of buzzes in it mostly midrange and a couple fairways. The cicada looks sweet I'm gonna have to pick one up.
The nose shape on the Cicada is more blunt, just like a Buzzz. This is a subtle difference but has an impact on the flight for sure, usually makes them less glidey but more controllable.
Cicada seems to have a very similar profile to the TL which I loooove.
The Hawkeye is a very slight changed mold compared to the original Innova-made Discmania FD. The Dark Rebel by Innova Factory is the actual FD from DM by Innova.
The new FD is made to be as much alike the original FD without the risk of any runs becoming to flippy. My green C-line FD DM Originals havn't seen too much action flying vey stable like the most boring discmold/flight imo (7,5,0,2), the stock shot of ages xD

These are all great discs. The cicada has late turn for me but my son likes it so he will get plenty of yse out of it.
Yeah, they all have great flights, it's hard to go wrong with any of these. I hope your son enjoys the Cicada!

Is the crave close to the river?
I actually don't have much experience throwing a river. Numbers wise, it seems like it would be similar, but I hear that the River is often times less stable. I would imagine for my arm speed though, it would be similar. Maybe I'll have to give it a try!
I had bought a 176g Gold Line River a couple months ago, and just recently bought a 160g Fission Crave. I have heard that some Rivers can be flippy. Mine was pretty stable though, I think because of the weight. I kept getting horrible releases though with the River. I think maybe it was a combination of the large dome, and kinda beaded rim, it felt a bit different. I've only thrown my Crave a few times, but it feels great and I threw lasers with it, no bad releases. Flatter profile and sharper rim rips out of my hand better I guess.
I picked up a Crave and it sooo good. Getting a Servo to should be same flight just more stable
I bag the Resistor, Servo, and Crave lol. All three feel great in the hand!
Seems like you have about a 6 1/2 to 7 speed arm as most of your crave shots were going further than the passion. Biggest mistake most new people make is throwing disc that are out speeding their arm.
