4:07 i love the delay between the pop and the flames. i didnt think it was going to catch on fire so i got disappointed, then it lit up with perfect timing.
Gotta love that...jamming a screwdriver into a strong spinning motor running at about 260V while it throws sparks. That's like a scene out of a comedy movie!
As someone who has dealt with numerous demon-infested mowers in my day, I heartily endorse and encourage the torture of any mower you can lay your hands on. In fact, make it long and drawn-out. I want the bastard to suffer.
Cole Jones Yes they exist, they can be plugged in or use a battery, they're cool but not cheap, always nice if you're not afraid of running over the cord and frying yourself.
Meanwhile in the neighborhood: "Kids, Photon is in the garden! Whereupon we agreed? Everybody in the house immediately! Into your safe spaces and 'Duck and Cover'. There can be x- or laser rays, blinding light, exposions or rotary mower blades flying around all the time!" - "Ah, Hello Mr. Photon! Nice weather today! No brushless motor I guess?" - "Come out kids, the thing is blown!"
WoW thats a pretty tought motor, surviving 513V for a while without big arcs! Anyways next time try overvolt a universal motor with DC voltage, it should overheat quickly or break apart, because there is no coil induction reactance on DC current (more rpm at the same voltage, lower resistance=more heat).
TheQwertyCody I think its an AC supply. In the video showing his power supply setup, you only see a 75A triple-stack variac with a 1:2 step-up transformer. He might have connected some diodes, but that meter is displaying the transformer output.
0:53 Almost made me feel sorry for the lawnmower, it sounded like it was in horrible pain. Then I remembered it's a lawnmower, which isn't sentient. Then I watched the rest of the video, and started doubting my previous statement.
Those were some of the coolest motor burnout sounds ever! The bearing noise at the beginning made it sound like a turbine, then we get that abrupt growl at 1:10 when the armature shorts out at high speed LOL.
I'm surprised Photon that you didn't decide to have more fun with this mower by flipping it over cranking the motor right up and dropping stuff into the raging blades...
+MeetballSub An old one, but still good one, because CZcams (in fact the whole developed world) is full of demagogic bastards who use ridiculous arguments like that to induce remorse about these kind of activities (and probably also throw away tons of spoiled food and completely useful stuff when they think that nobody's looking).
The thing that impresses me most about your abuse and overvoltage "testing" of series wound motors is the fact that the armature windings arent thrown out of their slots due to the extreme centrifugal forces theyre subjected to.. Surely testament to the quality of manufacture of the rotors.
I'm just glad that you chose electronics as a career and not medicine.
Im now wondering what kind of videos he would make if he had chosen medicine
"He ain't workin proper any more, so we're gonna give him a right lot of amphetamine and see if we can't make him do something"
Can you imagine him with a defibrillator. “Clear! I popped it.”
I doubt even the on-site generators could bring power back to the rest of the building if there was an outage.
Make it a crossover. “TILL IT POPS: PACEMAKER”
This channel pretty much just does all the things my wife won't let me do. I love it.
Guksack easy to solve that problem, get another wife
Photon did...
Leo why are you here
Her0icFern LOL
leokimvideo omg its you. fancy seeing you here lol
I'm pretty sure something just hit 88 mph and travelled to 1955.
neoqueto 1.21 gigawats!
Pretty sure it did great scot that was noisy
Probably some particles nothing major XD
Hahahhaa yeah bruh I felt like some quantum phenomena shit was happening involving space time traveling at high voltage jdnfbfjdjsnsk strangeness
neoqueto aw you bet me to it
it reminded me so much of back to the future.
Imagine cutting the grass with that? You'd probably send half your garden into another dimension.
Rick Sanchez's lawnmower right there
+Diamond Miner Animaniac LOL
+Diamond Miner Animaniac more like lawnmover
Dick Tickler I eat my grass.
It'll probably dig a hole to China.
Best. Fire extinguisher. Ever.
lol
And it STILL didn't hover. I think you guys got ripped off.
XDDDDD
0405son
Lol
The mower has achieved hyper sonic speed
It didn't have the cutting blade attached....
Wow, I didn't expect that literally "fighting fire with fire" would actually work!
We should totally replace fire extinguishers with flamethrowers!
"IF YOU'RE GONNA MAKE ME CUT THE GRASS DON'T QUESTION MY METHODS MOM!!!"
Lol I love this comment
One of the most unhappy sounding electric mowers I've heard, jolly good show old chap!
petti78
petti78
I would love to see Photonic put an electric car through his destructive testing process. xD
2nd this. Tesla motor uuuuntilllllll it pops! lol
I love how this guy just fucks with shit.
ewwww no. id rather watch a guy doing stupid stuff with electronics
Send it in for warranty
Garrett Martin time for MOT
2:22 - Looks like your lawnmower is trying to warp trough time and space
EpicLPer It did, it just did it so fast that it happened between frames.
When it hits 88 mph....
+{MLP} Rainbow Dash That's a badass profile pic!
Almost sent that thing into the future.
Hovermower?! What is this, 2015?!
Oh wait...
What is this, 2018?
CWINDOWSsystem32 because the Brits are too fucking lazy to put wheels on their mowers
What is this? 7/13/2019 (mm/dd/yy
Meanwhile "What is this, 2020?!" Has a completely different meaning.
Flymo still exists
0:53 it's almost like it's screaming like it knows it's going to die.
When this baby hits 88 mph, you're gonna see some serious shit.
@Atavistic Platypus it goes back to the future
Ah, yes. You just invented a 2 in 1 machine. 1) To entertain yourself, and 2) Cook meals over the burning motor.
4 in 1, its also a lawn mower and a helicopter
4:07 i love the delay between the pop and the flames. i didnt think it was going to catch on fire so i got disappointed, then it lit up with perfect timing.

came here because bigclive said it is cool, stayed for the mayhem :)

"I think that may be fire there" *puts fire out with flammable liquid
mowed down the current lol!!!
HDXFH rofl
"Puts it out every time!" Lmao, that was some top notch torture.
Photonicinduction? more like photonicdestruction
That high pitched sound before something goes horribly wrong.
Also...Electric lawnmower?
Cole Jones Yes they exist, they can be plugged in or use a battery, they're cool but not cheap, always nice if you're not afraid of running over the cord and frying yourself.
Cole Jones i haven't seen anyone use a non-electric around here, only seen those fueled ones on tv
DANGERTIM112 HUh, Guess Gas powered ones are an american thing. I've never even heard of eletric ones till now
Cole Jones
i live in the Netherlands, maybe it's becus we don't have that large gardens around here :p
DANGERTIM112 That makwes sense, I've got a 100x40 or 50 meter backyard, plus the yard around the house. SO yeah gas > Eletric for our bill XD

These great fireworks are brought to you by......
"Aww bollocks, it's on fire. Well what say we put it out ...with some more FIRE?!"
0:58
Definite Confusion with an Air Raid Siren.
You wasn't joking about the "screwdriver required" 🤣
WoW thats a pretty tought motor, surviving 513V for a while without big arcs!

when the screwdriver is stuck in it it sounds like a HUGE transformer! LOL
sounds like a jet engine revving up and having mixture trouble! hahahahaha
I love the smell of glowing commutators in the morning.
LOL I just noticed the brush popping out at 2:30 too.
love the screeching sound it makes just before it dies. As the bearings in the motor burns up.
It's amazing how fast the magnetic poles are switching to make the motor rotate.
Sounds like an idling Spitfire - and then it doesn't.
If Jobe from Lawnmower Man had a electric mower, this would be it.
If you put that inside a DeLorean you could time travel
One man, a lawn mower and a screwdriver.
Best lawn mower fix on youtube.
I'm surprised Photon that you didn't decide to have more fun with this mower by flipping it over cranking the motor right up and dropping stuff into the raging blades...
I never thought I'd hear a lawn mower sound like a Stuka.
This is how Tony Stark first discovered the arc reactor technology.
That thing looked like it would operate quite well between 250 and 400 volts! Anything higher than 440 just KILLED IT!!! xD
2 vids in one day.. That's my weekend made :) Great to see you back!
No fire? I ain't 'avin' it! *spray*
the lawn mower sounds like my PC when I mine on it lol
Silly electric motor thought he was done with it the first time round 😂
this could be used as a siren to alert ppl
Love how it powered on through the pain at 460V
0:51 did that lawnmower just scream? LOLOL 😂😂
Are you mad? People in Afrika could have eaten that lawnmover!!
ClassicGames They still could, only now it is cooked :D
It's left to spacebar (Also old) And works only in german, because "old" is "alt"
+ClassicGames Don't worry, the motor warped there anyways!
Africans could eat my dogs butt.
Lawns? Where we're going we don't need lawns!
I love that delayed flame @ 4:02
4:26 - Thumbs up for the world's smallest handheld fire extinguishers!
Love the final polyurethane flash from the windings heating at the end!
You're the cool/batshit crazy uncle everybody had when growing up.
i was literally waiting for this thing to take off the like the delorean in back to the future
2:00 the lawnmower looks like a teleporter from the star trek movies
Once you broke out the screwy driver and started shanking those brushes, I couldn't stop laughing for 5min! LOL Thats the Andy we all know!!! :-D
Without context, the video title is absolutely terrifying
Marty goes back in time to save the delorean
And here I am waiting for that damn mower to start levitating
@Ghost Heart (sigh) It's a hover mower, it floats on air when operating like a hovercraft.
This is the most terrifying video I've ever seen. The noise, the suspense, just listening to that motor causes stress.
That mower was about to go back to the future XD
he was so close to inter-dimensional travel.
Watching again in 2023; and that thing sounded like a Shepard Tone 😂
As soon as it started sparking, I thought of Back to the future.
Is that a plane? Nope it's just my lawnmower
Blimey. Almost went F1 there.
1:04 sounds like a vacuum cleaner lol
when it started sparking you know somethings gonna happen
Loved the motor pop at 1:08. so funny
Awesome burn out, that mower must have been doing 30,000 RPM before it popped.
1:01 The mower rotated 500 times a second. (30000 rpm)
3:32: it actually sounds like a car trying to start up but it fails to do so
That mower sure likes to complain lol
I grew up doing stuff like this and to this day it still makes me laugh 🤣
"One previous careful owner."
There's no man crazier than you.
The thing that impresses me most about your abuse and overvoltage "testing" of series wound motors is the fact that the armature windings arent thrown out of their slots due to the extreme centrifugal forces theyre subjected to.. Surely testament to the quality of manufacture of the rotors.
I'm amazed it still worked at the 1:40 mark, and again at the 2:58
I love how this hovermower looks like it's trying to travel back to it's time in the future!
Oh god I lost it at the fire extinguisher
His neighbors must hate him
0:51 Sounds like an overheating kettle XD
1:09 When you try and over clock your CPU
Your neighbours must love you! Absolute genius. Love tour videos. Jeep them coming lol.
Excellent, and cool power meter. Always great to see a new video from you.
I'm impressed by how much it took to kill it.
Ahhh, good to have you back....and no, you can never ever, ever.....ever borrow anything electrical from me! :P
photonicinduction: so I got a new electronoc to play with...
electronic: I've got a bad feeling about this
it looks like its about to warp into a new galaxy
Old Desmond Dekker really hung on until the bitter end!
Ohhhh, you let the magic green sparks out of the copper
