  • Suroosh Alvi takes a closer look at the future of firearms in America.
The firearms industry experienced unprecedented growth in the last decade. Fear of government regulation drove much of that growth as President Obama repeatedly tried to pass gun control laws in the aftermath of numerous mass shootings.
Now, with the political landscape fundamentally changed, the industry, and gun rights advocates, are looking for new ways to expand upon their 2nd amendment rights and the bottom line -- with some surprising results.
This segment originally aired June 16, 2017, on VICE on HBO.

The bill of rights ISN’T NEGOTIABLE
How much of your freedom of speech can I infringe upon to get HBO to stop being so blatantly biased?
The answer is zero, and as much as I don’t like what hbo says in their form of journalism I do believe in the right of hbo to say it.
So, if we’re required to view a legal document with the SAME invariable manner of scrutiny from one end to the other the same applies to the other amendments as well.
If not we’d probably be required to rewrite every amendment. Maybe start with the 5th amendment or the 14th
      You see?

Forget buying all the firearms you want to own but think about what you do own and that they need AMMO. Ammo for target practice and familiarity in one's hand of a favored firearm makes for better control and more confidence if the need arises. You do not want to be fumbling with a weapon when life depends on it. Keep em clean too. Fire all the rounds in a magazine quickly in practice and make sure it feeds and fires all. Aftermarket magazines can be defective.
They cannot ban firearms since your Right is given by your creator, it is Inherent. When they deny you your creator then you have tyranny.
Consider the fact that more school-age children die from transportation accidents, traffic accidents, and at the hand of a family member in the home.
Moms Demand Action stats about how many children are killed by firearms are fudged since a "child" to them is anyone between 0 and 24 years old.
The main cause of death for children under 5 is abortion. Teen deaths are almost always gang related. Children under 5 cannot lift a handgun or pull a trigger in most cases, they are not strong enough. Anyone claiming to police that the toddler shot and killed daddy with a handgun left lying around, police ought to look closer at mom.

I like how he asked if we were going to see the normalization of guns soon... Dude, up until the 80's in the vast majority of the states, it was not alarming at all to see a group of kids riding their bikes to a local range with .22 cal rifles strapped to their handlebars, people would just carry sub compacts regardless of what the laws said, in many places people kept a gun rack with a shotgun and/or rifle strapped up on it in their truck or car. Hell, even in New England for a long time students would bring their rifles and ammo to school during hunting season and the front office with the help of a deputy or two would catalog and store the rifles for the students so they could go try and bag a deer or two after class let out. Guns not being a normal thing is a very recent occurrence that can only be seen before the late 70's to early 80's in massive cities such as Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco.

That's because they use nonsense figures. The source for all of these hundreds of mass shootings per year claims is from one source. This source states that there 1,500-2,000 defensive gun uses per year. Research says otherwise, showing, at the very least, 50,000-80,000 defensive gun uses per year and with high estimates being 2 million per year (pdfs.semanticscholar.org/bae4/8265900c8377287ece93852b30c68ac22f38.pdf).
On the source, you have to get to page 8 before you even get to a shooting where anyone died. With 25 results per page, that’s almost 200 of the 366 mass shootings where no one died. I went to look at the first result on page 8 just to get an idea if they’re really reporting on mass shootings as we think of them or they’re padding the numbers. The case I looked at was a shooting in San Angelo. It was a guy that was pissed off because people were calling him out on a hit-and-run. Not what I think of when I think of a mass shooting.

      www.gosanangelo.com/story/news/crime/2019/11/01/four-injured-during-drive-shooting-near-san-angelo-nightclub/4120719002/
The second one I looked up was the next one down. It started with a drug deal and the killers came back to rob the residence. It was an armed robbery, not a mass shooting.

Nobody wants to take anyone’s guns away. We just support regulations on people that are actually insane, and have literally expressed intent to hurt people publicly. Don't even impede their ownership of arms a little bit. Yes, it's really that important."
"No man has greater regard for the military gentlemen than I have. I admire their intrepidity, perseverance, and valour. But when once a standing army is established, in any country, the people lose their liberty. When against a regular and disciplined army, yeomanry are the only defense - yeomanry, unskillful & unarmed, what chance is there for preserving freedom? Give me leave to recur to the page of history, to warn you of your present danger. Recollect the history of most nations of the world. What havoc, desolation, and destruction, have been perpetrated by standing armies? An instance within the memory of some of this house, - will shew us how our militia may be destroyed. Forty years ago, when the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British parliament was advised by an artful man, [Sir William Keith] who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people. That it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them. But that they should not do it openly; but to weaken them and let them sink gradually, by totally defusing and neglecting the militia. [Here MR. MASON quoted sundry passages to this effect.] This was a most iniquitous project. Why should we not provide against the danger of having our militia, our real and natural strength, destroyed?" -George Mason, Virginia ratifying convention (1788)
We even have a letter to Sir William Keith written likely by Benjamin Franklin and likely read as part of that sundry Mr. Mason read at the ratifying convention from the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1755 regarding this: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Such as were inclined to defend themselves, but unable to purchase Arms and Ammunition..."

For example, I have no idea who Joey Logano is, just like how I completely forgot the name of the pre teen competition shooting girl that's on this CZcams video. When making a proper analogy like how I just did, you realize the exact opposite of what you claim and that gun competitions and nascar have more in common than in contrast. Besides, it doesn't matter anyway, the guy in the CZcams video was just saying how advertising in gun competitions is similar to advertising in nascar, which is an observable fact.

How much do you fear firearms? Has the content provided here been removed from context? Maybe with intentions of compelling the viewer to believe that this "...particular gun..." - the firearm-variant that many view as "Assault Rifle" - is to be feared? Possibly that firearms should be feared, altogether?

Has media instilled enough fear in the American citizen to produce pyre through controversy?
This rifle known as the AR-15 is not an "Assault" rifle. It is a rifle produced by the firearms manufacturer known as ArmaLite. The "A" and the "R" do not represent an abbreviation for "A.ssault R.ifle." It is simply the first two letters in the manufacturers' name; much like the "G" for firearms produced by "Glock.," such as: "G17," "G19," "G26," "G34, "G45," and so on. The information that follows the preceding ("AR" or "G") characters/letters (such as "15," "17," "45," etcetera) often provides indication to an other variant or other measurements pertaining to the given firearm and/or a firearm-variant.
The CIVILIAN-firearm variants (one example being the AR-15; not to be mistaken for the {M}ilitary variant, the M-15) ALWAYS have further restrictions to its functionalities; with public safety in mind. They are definitely NOT designed in such ways to provide means to "Assault." A few of these restrictions may include: NO FULLY-AUTOMATIC (requires the user to MANUALLY operate the firing mechanism for every shot fired), Governed-ammunition-capacity for a given firearm variant, (a limitation to how many bullets can be loaded into a single firearm) and even a "Bullet Button," which is designed to restrict the users' ability to reload with efficiency; effectively making the process pretty tedious compared to a military variant.
If you have never handled a firearm before, or have never fully studied firearms or the history of firearms, try searching for "Handgonne" to really understand the fundamentals of "the firearm" and it's origins.
Also, check out www.americanfirearms.org/gun-history/ and search for the history pertaining to the listed firearms in the given timeline.
I'd also encourage you to absorb instruction through a firearms course, so that you may decide for yourself *from experience* (rather than from projections by various types of media) if we should keep our "...right of the people to keep and bear Arms..." that "...shall not be infringed."

Really guns wouldn't be a problem in an educated society, but take away peoples prospects in life except to be drug dealers and we'll always have this problem...

You can't equate the number of federal licenses to sell guns to the number of "places" to buy guns. Clearly, there are nowhere near as many gun stores as there are McDonald's locations.

Vice doesnt care about facts, they only care about propaganda. They think every FFL is a brick and mortar store, not realizing many people get an FFL license just so they can buy whatever they want.
