Zou Jingyuan and Xiao Ruoteng of China forgot to salute twice at the Tokyo Olympics and lost 0.3 each time. I think a system of warnings would be fairer: you do it once, you get a warning. You do it twice, you lose 0.3 (or more). But it’s unfair to penalize gymnasts so harshly on a technicality. Especially in men’s gymnastics where most international competitions (teams or individual AA) have been won by a couple of tenths these last few years.
