    The E cap on bars is such a stupid rule. It’s like they were trying to get rid of any innovation on bars, and honestly, they kinda succeeded.

      Couldn't agree more. For me FIG seem to be confused about how much they want the sport to evolve and as such are confusing the gymnasts themselves. It probably would be best and less confusing if they went back to the perfect ten system.

    Seems FIG is doing anything it can to make gymnastics boring/repetitive. Why not just give the 'most' correct value and move on? I suspect there are much more skills that are undervalued.. gymnastics today is value-seeking. I don't blame gymnasts when the code of points reward in that way.

      @colesmith7509 Před 3 lety

      @@You-dh1du I actually disagree to be honest. She had a very efficient inbar. There are others that do deeper inbars, so it's harder to do such a hard transition from it. Komova definitely had great form on those, but it wasn't the form the allowed her to do the Komova I

    • @You-dh1du
      @You-dh1du Před 3 lety +2

      @@colesmith7509 uh, have you seen photos of Komova performing an inbar? She has the deepest pike position. Only gymnast I can think that comes somewhat close to her inbar position is Melnikova. Komova truly mastered inbars. In fact, performing the skill was probably easier earlier on in her career before her growth spurts. She could quickly bring her legs to her chest and her slim body honestly helped with her generating the transition from low to high bar. Sorry but I agree to disagree with you. I will agree that most gymnasts do not perform inbars properly. They don't really pike down like Komova, which I find unfair. Madison Kocian was an example of a gymnast who barely missed the bars with her toes while performing inbars. Honestly, though there's no point performing a Komova since it's objectively more difficult to perform well especially in combination, and it still does not have the proper difficulty value.

    The way gymnastics is scored is absolutely bananas. I watch it pretty regularly and still get lost as to why they got a certain score. Hell, as fast as they move, its often difficult to discern what skill they even performed. I wish when the televised the competition they would show on screen what skills are performed and the announcers should talk a bit more about why something is scored like it is; instead of the vague overall impressions that they usually give or discussions of a gymnast’s history. The sport would have more consistent viewership and a larger fan base if a casual viewer had a clue what was happening beyond “holy shit, id break my neck if I tried that.” Lol

  • @matthewhines9787
    @matthewhines9787 Před 3 lety +1

    I agree with all except the 3.5. I don't think the idea that a skill lends itself to certain kinds of form deductions (crossing ankles) should necessarily be a reason for a higher or lower difficulty rating. Different skills have their own predispositions to various deductions. For the DLO, that's lack of height, overarched or piked body position, lack of discernible body shape, flexed feet, low chest position.
    I don't believe the DLO is any easier because it's done more. I think the DLO is done more because double salto and the correct technique to get them is stressed earlier and harder in development. Therefore, developing sustainable twisting technique is common and that is what makes those types of skills less common. after a gymnast gets the back LO 2/1, they go directly into working a double tuck; not a 2.5 twist, and from the tuck they go to training the double pike.

    FIG has successfully managed to clip off innovation from gymnastics tbh by underscoring so many skills especially the difficult ones. Now no one even tries to do them, I wouldn't put it past Biles to ditch doing them as well since she is not given proper scores for doing difficult skills. Sheep jump is severely undervalued! It’s technically so hard yet aesthetic. FIG has no respect for art!

    Please downgrade that spin from a squatter side lounge. It seems like 90% of gymnasts do kn bam or floor of both. Mist look bad and sloppy when they do it even if they complete the revolutions.
    That sheep jump looks hella hard, but it also seems like moves where the very flexible have an advantage are discouraged.

    No Yurchenko Double Pike????

    • @Sarah-wd6xr
      @Sarah-wd6xr Před 3 lety +6

      The YDP is appropriately valued in relation to other vaults. Flipping backwards is easier than flipping forwards (so a Yurchenko double tucked should be lower than a prudanova) , but since it’s piked instead of tucked, it should be slightly harder than a prudanova (at 6.4), which the YDP is at 6.6.
      In the new code, either the prudanova at 6.0, the YDP will likely be a 6.2, which will also be appropriate relative to other vaults.

    • @hannibaljustincase9985
      @hannibaljustincase9985 Před 3 lety +2

      @@Sarah-wd6xr YDP in no way should be rated higher than Produnova. not with Yurchenko entry and spotted landing. the issue is, Produnova is already highly underscored, so placing YDP above it creates a bit of a chaos. If anything, Yeo is extremely undervalued and no one seems to pay attention to it.

    • @educatedinyellow8189

      I don't think FIG has rated the Yurchenko Double Pike yet. The American judges awarded it a provisional 6.6 rating, but its official value is not yet decided as far as I know. I don't think it will be until Simone performs it in international competition, i.e. at the Olympics.

    • @Sarah-wd6xr
      @Sarah-wd6xr Před 3 lety

      @@hannibaljustincase9985 I agree with you on the rating of the Prudanova - I think it is harder than the YDP. However, I think if you follow the logical progression of the existing code, it should come out slightly higher since it's piked rather than tucked. I'd rate the Prudanova highest of all though - people compare the men where the Yurchenko double saltos are harder than the handspring double saltos (and so say YDP should be higher than Prudanova), but yurchenko entries are easier for women than handspring. TL:DR, I agree with you, but either way the YDP is definitely not undervalued.

    Shameful about the sheep jump. All of these skills make the judges look like, they don't know what they are doing by, downgrading such complex moves. The FIG is guaranteeing that the sport will become stale & predictable filled with uniform & robotic exercises. Guess, its a good time to bring forth the robot judges powered by AI.
