This story hits different now that I'm grown. I was blindsided with a man like Franklin, fell in love with potential. I was successful and young, he struggled with being a provider. I had everything he wanted and he constantly got mad at me. Wish I had a little more guidance, I became pregnant treatment got worse. He destroyed my place and broke up most of things. I had a little girl and gave him chances to step up; he blamed me for everything wrong with his life. I don't know if he got it together but I'm happily married and my daughter is now 14.
@SimplyAdia ... I don't know you abs ah very proud of you and how you decided to improve and let the zero alone.
Congratulations on your wonderful life!
So happy for you! I stayed married to this type of man for 8 yrs! Currently getting a divorce and I am soo looking forward to my freedom! I have and a 7yr old and a 7month old!!! Idc, I’m done!
I’m very proud of you. Thank you for sharing
Oh man, I had this on VHS when I was about 19. A lot of this hits different after you've experienced life a little, lol.
Yes indeed Shai.

This movie is a prime example of how the wrong person can come into your life, and ruin it when discernment is not used.
not so much the wrong person because he did indeed love her he just wasn't right for her in the begining, he had a lot of work to do.

He is home before her, he forgot to pick up his own child. She is washing the dishes and he wanted her to change the baby. Can't he change his child diaper?

If you're a black woman in your forties you've had one of these struggle relationships. The Black movies from the 90's and early 00's had us thinking we can build a man even if we were destroying ourselves in the process. Thank God for deliverance!
We know better know & wouldn't dare!!!
Amen to that!!!!!
I'm in my mid-30s and ALMOST got caught up in one of these type of struggle love situations. Thank God I had the discernment to see it for what it was before I got in too deep!

Franklin really wasn’t shit. He ain’t have nothing going for himself and had the nerve to be an asshole at times.. hell tf no!
Yes! He was just like half the dudes in my city
In the book he was even worse
I've read the book and I totally hate him!
@@erikarepaja2543 I need to read the book then!
@Joel Johnson it was real but at the same time it wasn’t because he didn’t really love her when she told him i love you. He hesitated when they were sitting on the stairs. Zora was desperate for a man and the only thing that kept him around was the dick. When he asked her why am i here? He looked at her like u using me for my dick . It comes a time when a woman wants more than a big dick and good sex. That’s what his ex wife told him, she said well tell her to call me I’ll tell her girl a big dick and worth all this stress.
That’s on period ….
Black Struggle Love is for the birds!

Q.: How about 'Struggle Love' in other colors? What kind of birds are those for?
I haven't seen this movie in years. These types of movies dont exist anymore. Miss the early 2000's!
Yup! The tv movies back then were so good they could have been released in theaters.
I had to look at this movie a second time. Taught me a lesson or two: take time to know a man; never moved him into your place; listen to what he's not saying, and don't support him financially and no husband benefits.
That man was trash. I felt her pain.
Absolute basura
@Joel Johnson It wasn't the goals that was the problem. He made alot of excuses for himself not realizing the world don't stop for nobody. And he just kept digging a deeper hole while dragging women and children down with him. Now she also had a role in that. Its okay to love someone but don't coddle them. He should of never moved in. And she should have allowed him time to get his stuff together. And if he real about wanting better he will be better. He definitely loved her but sadly love...is not enough sometimes.
A wise older woman told me once "if it starts off wrong, it won't end up right" that's what happens, they got together he was still married, and morally it was wrong for him to start another family before tying up the loose ends; the drinking on the job, etcetera. He had to get himself all the way together first in order for him to be the man he wanted to be and needed to be. I was so happy to see him come back as a better man.
From experience it doesn't always happen this way for us women of color, sometimes they come back after the children are grown(as was in my case) and too much time has passed and far too much damage has been done(especially to our sons growing up without their fathers). I love Terry McMillen as an author who also gave us "Waiting to exhale" I enjoyed revisiting this film because it ends the way it began, with Love and Black Love is the Best Kind of Love!!! To All of my Black Men out there Stay Strong and just Hold on and Know that You Are So Loved!!
Thanks queen
Very well truthful.
Nicole James "WOW" my granddaughter told me the same thing everytime .
And that is why I’ve always loved sitting at the feet of older generations!!! Their wisdom far exceeds any book you read!!!

Women have to realize the business part of the relationship. If a man doesn’t bring anything good to bring to the table or he doesn’t have much to lose as you do, leave him alone.
I should have done tht, now 19 years in the marriage and still the breadwinner. At least wesly snipes was romantic. Life is not fair I tell you

There was three critcal errors she made ....#1 She slept with him on the second night #2 She gave him a key to her apartment and #3 She had a baby by him now let that sink in...
I feel for everybody's situation. Men can really mess up their lives and women accept far too much. Franklin wasn't a bad guy, but he made bad decisions (drinking on the job, not getting his divorce). Zora did too (accepting his excuses). They didn't help each other in the beginning, just made each others' situations harder. A man has no business stepping to a woman with nothing to offer and a woman has no business letting him. Separate what you know from how you feel ladies (and gentlemen).
Amen
He was a bad man. Not really a man at all, by misusing those women's energy, love, and time. He was a big, charming, inefficient child.
He told her in the beginning he didn’t had much to offer and she accepted him anyway. She just didn’t know he was so irresponsible. Sex can cloud your judgment.

Sweet, real movie.
Terry Mcmillan ...great writer
Unpopular opinion: This is not a romantic movie . It is a typical struggle movie that get promoted to BW to accept any treatment as long as you got a “man”.
He purposely did not tell her till she basically fell in love with him all of his problems. She is in a situation where she is paying majority of the bills, working, cooking, cleaning, trying to jumpstart a music career, and has epilepsy. All he brings her is no high school diploma, two kids he can’t take care of, and a wife that he still is married to . Then he basically tries to guilt trip her into keeping his baby when they are both already horribly struggling especially her since she is carrying 80 percent of the weight . He can’t keep a job to save his life .Then he has the audacity to make a comment insinuating that she should be grateful she has man . Once the baby comes, he can’t even remember to pick HIS child up and does not change diapers . When he gets upset, he messes up the furniture that her and HIS a child will have to live in.
Unfortunately, this is the reality of many BW who are in relationships. They get gaslighted and treated like mules. A slim amount of intimacy from a man is enough for some women to accept this treatment .
I would never thank god.
Thank you. I agree with you 100%. This movie is the same propaganda that is promoted to Black women over and over again to keep us in these struggle relationships and single parents. We are told to settle for not even the bare minimum that other races of women are taught to expect from a man. This is why Terri McMillan books are popular. I’m happy for her success, but all her books and movies are just like Tyler Perry movies. Black woman you are a mule, be happy that any Black man breathed near you, sacrifice your life for everyone but yourself. This movie is what not to do and what not to settle for in relationships and life.
@@victorialake9474 yes I agree especially in the Tyler Perry movies . They all have to struggle in some way to get love.

Then gaslighting her to think she's in the wrong to not want the dudes Tyler Perry pushes on us to settle for....or for expecting truthfulness and responsibility. We stay having to raise these fools. Grow up before y'all date and waste black women's time.
I know for real, this movie has a lot of parallels to what BW are dealing with today,. Like he literally smashed up everything he built in her flat out spite, all because he was told that his lazy azz attitude will not be tolerated. 🙄. "I am not divorced, I am separated".... umm no 😒
This movie was not cute
Nail on the 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
@Joel Johnson No, a man who strives to do good is not a fool. His erratic behavior and gaslighting is. He throws tantrums and wants to fix it with sex. He watched her struggle while he sat home without taking care of the house. Men don't need this explained to them. They're not angry about a comment section full of women who know better. They agree when they know their rightful places.
@Joel Johnson No, dusty. Real love is having enough respect for yourself and a future partner to be at your best so that you have something of value to bring to the table instead of expecting someone to struggle with you and your toxic bullshit. If you are significantly struggling, especially financially, you shouldn't even be entertaining the thought of dating anyone. You should be so focused on getting your shit together so that you can be an asset to your future partner instead of a liability.
He was uncertain about his contribution She stayed true to course ..without being bitter because when he did come back he had made honest stride towards his real sense of belonging as a Father and worthy to earn her heart back Great movie !!!!

This is my movie. I read the book before I watched the movie. I enjoyed both. Great acting.
Great for a storyline of what to stay away from. This is struggle love to the max. This movie kinda personifies how a lot of our men became. We empathized with their struggles, support them IN EVERY WAY, deal with that building boy phase and all. These days, many women are over it and the men are trying to get women back into this type of subjection. That's why KS is their voice. They are and have been bullying women into settling for them. The threat is "Well, you'll be alone." They get that from older women too. Explore you racial options. That doesn't mean any others are the holy grail. Still, explore to widen your pool. Its crazy because we can see brothers' pain and we really try to fill that void but we can't. That's why many give up on themselves. They need the Most High before being married and being in relationships. Healing to them and us
Amen

This movies shows good and bad of how we as women love and choose men. Its good she so the greatness in him and what he could accomplish, but he should bring something ot the table like you and appreciate you as much as you do him, if not more. Women should uplift and encourage a man, but not when he's married. He didnt deserve her at that time. We are so giving and overlook alot of flaws when sex comes into the picture. It blinds us and some men think that solves everything. It doesn't. Men or women, fix your issues or at least come correct before you start a relationship. Franklin was a good man but you came to this beautiful sister raggedy (i.e full of excuses, lack of drive, married with children). That wasnt fair to her because she had a big heart. Like many of us, we just want to be loved and supported. Timing was bad like she said. How he came in the end was how he should of came in the beginning. Noone can fix us...they can encourage but we must do the work. If we are drained and broken, we have nothing to give.
Well said.🌹
Thanks ❤️this one of my favorite movies 🍿
He got it together! That’s great. We all have different paths. They don’t make happy endings like this no more. Unfortunate events happened, some never recover. But I’m glad he did.
My first time watching this movie. I enjoyed.Real love with real struggles ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yeah, it’s called struggle love. No thank you!
