Lyrics:
You are the promised kiss of springtime
That makes the lonely winter seem long
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song
You are the angel glow that lights a star
The dearest things I know are what you are
Some day my happy arms will hold you
And some day I'll know that moment divine
When all the things you are, are mine - Hudba
She helped fund my special needs child's school ECF Kayne-Eras--God rest her soul--a great woman with a generous heart and true talent!!💖💖
It is not fair... this woman can melt me with just a few notes from a song!!! After this Jerome Kern masterpiece, Ella has turned me into a giant puddle!! What an angel she was!!!!
Ain't that nothing but the truth.
I understand ❤
Fckn chills truth!
She does superb justice to this fine song, and it is beautifully arranged, and delivered in her classic jazzy interpretation. I saw Ms. Fitzgerald at Radio City Music Hall in 1978. It was my first date with my soon to be wife. I was trying to impress her with my taste in music, and it worked. I'll never forget it, and we're still going strong.
I used to play American standards in the shoe store I managed in Chicago in the ‘90s. and straight guys would ask me what to play to impress their new date, and I’d always start out with Ella.
she had such a natural way of singing, not strained or forced but light and airy, beautiful.
My best friend was a concert promoter in Chicago. Ella was his absolute favorite performer, an elegant and beautiful woman in every way that matters. Now Sarah Vaughan, on the other hand...
She was a gift to us all.
You are the promised kiss of springtime
That makes the lonely winter seem long
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song
[Chorus]
You are the angel glow that lights a star
The dearest things I know are what you are
Someday my happy arms will hold you
And someday I'll know that moment divine
When all the things you are are mine
Chorus]
You are the angel glow that lights a star
The dearest things I know are what you are
Someday my happy arms will hold you
And someday I'll know that moment divine
When all the things you are are mine
Ella.....her amazing timing and lyric interpretation cannot be rivalled. I've studied her for nearly 25 years and still get breathless at her phrasing. This is a wonderful medium swing rendition. Fabulous strings and horns. Talk about chill bumps!
What a beautiful voice. Its so "un-contrived".
Not one jazz vocalist today gets anywhere near this.
Beautiful
Well....one or two do, but not with clarity and feeling Ella do....and did! She is the queen!
Of any genre!
She could sing and she was beautiful.
Our favorite song...I sang this on College radio in 1953 to my future wife...fondest memories every time we play Ella, or Frank.
I did something like that. Worked my butt off to get it spot on. She does not even remember it now.
What style of jazz is this?

Very smooth voice. A lovely example of smooth jazz
Was my parents' "song" -- they left earth a long time ago, but hearing this beautiful rendition, lights me too --lovely
The ever ever greatest Jazz singer. Thank you Ella, I listen to you every day. The band is amazing as well. Listen to the interpretation and timing, awesome performance and legendary.
One of the two requirements of getting into Heaven is having heard this here Ella-gives-me-fits rendition! Insane!! This is the fullest, most beautiful female voice, bar none! Absolutely riveting!!!
Was there ever a better interpreter of American popular song? Her voice is like heaven.
Peggy Lee is definitely up there with her.
Thank you, Jerome Kern Thank you, Miss Ella.
❤ 💋
Ella had a voice from beyond. Pure perfection.
The best her voice is holistic
Divine voice thank you Ella.
BY FAR THE BEST;LUCKY FOR ME I SAW HER IN CONCERT LIVE IN PARIS 1958 OR 59 AT THE OLYMPIA MIDNIGHT JAZZ CONCERT WITH THE DIZZY GILLESPIE BIG BAND ON THEIR RETURN FROM THE STATE DEPT TOUR OF THE USSR.FANTASTIC!!!!!!
chaimou1 Wow, what a blessing! I love Dizzy and Ella!!
chaimou1 Lucky you!!!
WOW!!
Lucky you! I'm jealous
Very lucky, Wow.
Rich, effortless, contralto to soprano, sustained, strikingly one of a kind, royal: calculated PERFECTION...Ella
Damn, this is what sunny Sunday afternoons are for.
Can't say enough about how she handles this song. Any singer will tell you it has some pretty tough intervals in it, and Ella just makes it seem like a walk in the park. What a gorgeous voice! What a great song!
Who says that perfection doesn't exist...?
Listen to Nino Bravo with "Eres todo cuanto quiero".
This Puts A Kiss On your Soul.
Oh, Harold. (heart) What a bee-u-ti-ful thing to conjure up.
Δεν θα μπορούσε να υπάρξει καλύτερο σχόλιο γι'αυτό το υπέροχο τραγούδι και αυτή την αγγελική φωνή.
Well stated, Harold
The BEST rendition of this wonderful song I've ever heard. Ella tops them all.
If I was young when she was around I'd have all her posters autographed and I'd be her biggest fanboy. Seriously she is the bee's knees.
Carey Coleman I know exactly how you feel. It kills me to know that she's not around. I like to think she watches over me from heaven every time i listen to her music :3
+Carey Coleman u r fanboy
Carey Coleman o
Im keen to that, my man.
Where are young people like you? Clone yourself please! Multiple times! :D
Words can not describe the beauty and value of her voice and talent... When she sang songs like this, she hit the very essence of the lyrics!
Double kudos on the video and sound quality :)
I’m not an expert but the up and down notes coexist in harmony in this song in such an elegant way. It’s like the melody of her voice makes possible the impossible
Gorgeous, this song has it all for me, the heaven sent vocals of Ella, the Big Band , drums swinging and the punchy brass and woodwind section dropping into every slot just so perfect- this is straight into my top favourites.
Never a wonky note from Ella, love it!
I luv this comment! But very true, she was such an intelligent and thoughtful singer.
Ella was blessed with perfect pitch. And used it beautifully
Beautiful voice and great song. A masterpiece.
Simply the best. Unbelievably good. What a backing band. It's all wow!
Ah... isn't she the best? My Dad was her age... he saw her at Harvard his freshman year and was a lifelong fan.
Dislike.
Like. LazyFaux is not correct.
THE best. Can they not discover time travel any faster?
haierthanhai they're going to announce it tomorrow
If they invent it in my lifetime I'll come back and get you guys if you promise to do the same for me. We'll have a great romp thru the fifties. I'll pick you up on what will be tomorrow for you (unless you would like to take a younger you back, in which case I'll pick you up five years ago)--I hope I don't (didn't) forget...
There is not one person today that even comes close. Most singers today screech the highest notes they can reach, and try to put all the fancy's on it. They also don't even know what dynamics are. Ella was sooooo smooth.
Ella had the most beautiful and smoothest voice! Amazing!
+VisionofLoveandPeace Isn't Ella great ? She is my favorite.
Yes! She's the ultimate singer's mentor.
my favourite thing about ella is that she matured into her voice.
She really had the most elegant sounding and PURE voice of them all
smooth like silk
I can't wait to see you, my future babies! When all the things you are, are mine! You become grandchildren to your grandparents!
Now that's a song. What an arrangement. And, what a rendition!
This song was mentioned in a book I'm currently reading. Needless to say, this is wonderful and I'm thankful I got to discover this!
Listening to this song last night on my stereo brought me almost to tears. The arrangement, the superb instrumental playing, the divinely romantic lyrics, and most important of all, Ella's transcendently sublime voice, a voice that truly exemplifies the phrase " a gift from God".
So beautiful they never make songs like this anymore R.I.P. Miss First Lady Of Song. You will be missed greatly
classy song sung by one classy lady.sorely missed but thank god we have the recordings!
One of the greatest singers ever.

This is awesome!! Can't go wrong with Ella Fitzgerald 🎶 best version I've heard!
THE BEST VERSION EVER !!!!!
Those trumpets giving me goosebumps. In fact the whole song is.
Ooooh she is absolutely sublime. What a voice. The finest female vocalist of all time, untouchable. My dads favourite.
Nelson Riddle with his orchestra. My favorite arrangement of this song. Perfect progression for Ella!
Just practicing progressions on this song from a book I have, such a beautiful voice and great arrangement
What a gorgeous voice, it just melts like butter through my headphones.
favorite song of my brother
The first time I ever heard this song was on a CD of Glenn Miller's songs performed by the Airmen of Note. I'm not quite sure why the song was included on a collection of Glenn Miller, but I'm getting away from saying how glad I am to have heard Ella's version. There aren't enough Os in smooooooth to do it justice.
Possibly the Greatest love song ever written, And sung by definately the the greatest singer of jazz and popular song this world has ever seen. To coin a phrase from another song. "Simply the best, better than all the rest.I've loved every moment of listening to Ella Fitzgerald for the last fifty years, thank you so much "Ella". Nice video as well Chris.
Play some ella during my funerals, please. Sure that I'll wake up.
Hahaha!

This Song Describes Everything When I Don't Have Words.
I was honestly expecting a different sound to her voice. But she has a smooth, smooth, voice.

I'm glad i got into fallout, i wouldn't be making a playlist with songs like these without it.
"You are the angel glow that lights a star
The dearest things I know are what you are". I love it!
“Whatcha doin' down there?” said my wife from the top of the basement stairs, knowing I'd taken a detour - from doing the laundry. “Reading” I said -- while standing beside a bookshelf and trying to find a quote from Oscar Hammerstein - about All The Things You Are.
I come upstairs and find Siriiusly Sinatra satellite radio is playing Ella's classic up-tempo jazz recording of ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE, which Ella sings without the opening verse (“Time and again I've longed for adventure”).
I'd just been thinking about my musical parents' favorite song (mine too) and was searching through Oscar Hammerstein's book titled “LYRICS” - the 43-page introductory essay that he wrote back in 1949 “before half his shows with Richard Rodgers had been written.” I had to find the part about Oscar hating to use the word “divine.”
“Some words,” he wrote on page 28, “have lost their value through overuse. 'Divine is such a word. It occurs in ' All The Things You Are.' I didn't like this word when I submitted the song to Jerry Kern and, as I had anticipated, he didn't like it either.
“For many days I worked, trying to find a substitute. I just couldn't. The last lines are: 'Some day I'll know that moment divine, When all the things you are, are mine.' I was trapped. All the things you are referred to, throughout the song - poetically and romantically - are certainly what I wish to be 'mine.' I couldn't surrender this finish.
“But it demands an 'ine' rhyme. 'Someday I'll know that moment . . . what? Sign, line, fine, shine? Nothing served as well as that unwanted 'divine.' I never could find a way out. The song, written in 1937, today (1949) shows signs of being a long-lived standard ballad - but I shall never be happy with that word!”
First version offered at CZcams this day is this one ( 2,312,033 views ) which features a lovely slide show and well-presented lyrics.
Thanks for sharing, Cristin mce. Celebrated this day at Sinatra Family - Forum - “Siriusly Sinatra” - ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE sinatrafamily.com/forum/showthread.php/50781-All-The-Things-You-Are-most-every-jazz-musician-s-favorite-song?p=1305001#post1305001
She's the Joan Sutherland of Jazz. And this song is the greatest 20th century song ever written - perfect combination of music and lyrics. If I could just listen to one recording of one song for the rest of my life, this is it!
G.O.A.T.
Forever my summer love .....someday .....
I love the lyrics.
What a poetic song. ❤
Esta sí es música, que voz y arreglos, desgraciadamente se ha perdido el romanticismo en la música, en todo. Ya los sentimientos quedaron atrás y olvidados
Los sentimientos siguen, la calidad como personas es lo que se fue.
I only ever heard the young Michael Jackson's version of this on the Music and Me album. Thanks to the CZcams comments I found this gem 😊❣
Let’s not forget the great Nelson Smock Riddle who partnered with Ella (and Nat and Frank) to arrange and conduct some of her greatest and most memorable albums.
This is such a good song
- a snooty classical musician
Divine!
Ella, God bless you. How not to love her.
I always thought that this was written by Michel Le Grand for the 1986 TV mini series "Crossings" based on the novel by Danielle Steele, But I just heard it on the radio, sung by Ella, with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and discovered it was written by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein . Like Vera Lynn's "We'll Meet Again", it evokes all the feelings that being parted by war brings, so very suitable for "Crossings".
No way but I was surprised to learn Oscar the second wrote the lyrics. Don't know why.
Marvelous, simply the best until the end of the world.
Haunting...
She's so beautiful. The lyrics and the music are soft and sweet :)
The wonderful velvet voice of Ella is so delightful to listen to late at night. Tony Bennet, K.D. Lang and Ella Fitzgerald; Beautiful
from Jose' "Timo" Sepulveda.....THAT VOICE.......never has been another like it, never will ever be again........
Correction...having researched it...it actually was written in the key of C with the first section beginning with a Fm7 chord then modulating down in 5ths. written in 1939 for the play "Very Warm For May" Someone said the trumpets are too loud. i disagree. I find this production to be perfectly dynamic and the horns add a wonderful punch at just the right places.
I'm working on this unbelievably gorgeous melody now - and Ella's voice runs through my head when I play it. She was an astounding singer - I don't think anyone owns this song like she does....and she makes it sound easy (it's not) Not certain but it sounds like a Nelson Riddle arrangement - and while I do find the trumpets a little brassy in the opening bars - it quickly settles into one of the better arrangements I've heard.
My guitar teacher provided me with another analysis. He said F-7 was the VI of A Flat. Anyway it modulates so much, not so important. And probably very hard to sing, .. except for Ella.
Truly one of the all-time greats! What a blessing to listen to her!
