"What rhymes with colonoscopy?"
Royce 5'9 - "Tryin' not to adopt my father's old philosophies. Same time I'm prayin' to God that everything works out at his colonoscopy."
Middle age MCing in full effect.
So blessed to see black thought and rakim live on the force tour 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I bawled like a baby when I saw the show in Houston the moment I heard Black Thought back up Rakim. Didn't realize that The Roots were gonna play the whole 3 and a half hour show as every group's backing band. Thought was the ultimate hypeman. Best show I've seen in my entire life....
It’s crazy that 3 Stacks says sarcastically, “what am I gonna talk about, getting a colonoscopy?” Yes! His fan base has gotten older and it’s dope to talk about real ish. Phonte’s album “No News Is Good News” is the DOPEST ish, EVER! Grown man music. “Expensive Genes” is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. It poses real questions as an aging black man…
👆🏽THIS, most emphatically! Respect. 🙏🏽

Y'all hopeless, and I'm a little better than dope is

Phonte and Black Thought together in interview or music or art in any sense is some dope shit, 1 Luv to Brotha Quest too dope on drums and the 1's & 2's
Love Black and love Phonte. Two of the best Wordsmiths to enter the realm. LB for life. Peace and love from NC.
Just to hear Black and Madlib in the studio is Mad Thought!
🤌🏽🍿
Tariq One of My Favorite Rappers Ever💯👍
This man is definitely in my top 5 of ALL TIME!
top 1
Top 3 for sure and he's number 1.
The nastiest to do it, as a matter of fact
The absolute truth
@@shortie9103
Wtf. Who's the other 4 that beat him????
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My no.1 MC. No one from our city does it like him. Black Thought=Deep Thinker
"The studio is my church". I can't wait to read this book! Please do a NPR Tiny Desk Concert. 🖤🖤🖤
Greatest to ever do it!!!
I really appreciate you guys taking the time to do such an incredible interview. As a lifelong fan of The Roots, it was great to hear this.
The Roots is the Frankie Beverley And Maze of Hip Hop. And if you are a 70's baby raised in the 80's you feel what i'm saying. when it comes to Hip Hop with live instruments and true and soulful music. The Legendary Roots Crew is bar none.
Very apt comparison!
He and Phonte are two of the greatest to ever grace a microphone.
Pun is in heaven having a blast watching this.
We have evolved.
Thank you
QUESTLOVE
TARIQ TROTTER
Things Fall Apart changed the way I saw a lot of things back in high school. These folks still change my perspective almost 25 years later. Thanks to all of you. I can’t express how much I’ve learned since discovering QLS in 2020. This is what we’ve all been waiting for 🙏
Man I could listen to you guys talk for hours on end. Thanks to the greatest MC alive for sitting down and doing this interview.
So good to watch this. Ahmir and Tariq are really brothers looking out for each other. Phonte with the good questions. The LB documentary was amazing and I cannot wait to read Tariq's book. He is my number one all time MC.
Thanks Questlove Supreme Podcast for this one! Still waiting on the D’Angelo show 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Man, as much as D’Angelo hates interviews and cameras…THAT will be a miracle! 😂
@@CED.Dweller For real bro!!! lol! He’s a recluse too. Hope he’s well or working on some new music
Love this!! Also Phonte was ready with the questions. Ha
RIP MALIK B
Top lyrics had bars
Wow!!! This is what we've all been waiting for!! Shout out to master and to Team Supreme for finally making it happen.
36:50 I REALLY appreciate the transparency here. "It's embarrassing...in the moment it made sense." I love that Tariq is detached from his mistakes and also aware of them. I'm learning how to not wish I would have done better all the time. Learning to embrace myself and be fully responsible for my results, so I won't keep looking to other people to do it.
It’s about F#$king Time!
The KOOL KEITH LOVE . Nice!!! This is why Tariq is the 🐐🐐🐐🐐
I never knew I needed this. Great friends and brothers between Ahmir and Tarik!!
Years ago I met Tariq's doppelgänger in a small village called Umuobiakwa in Ngwa land South East Nigeria. He was a shaman and lives alone in the middle of a thick forest. His wife and kids stayed with his parents in the village. People were petrified of this dude for a good reason. The guy is the most unique person I have ever met, one of kind. His mind is a hive and works completely differently. The resemblance, the tone, even the smile is still mind boggling to this day. The strange thing about this story is that the man's name was Mazi Abali. Abali in Igbo is night. The first time I saw black thought in the video of What They Do. I almost had a heart attack. Again, the resemblance and even the slight very unique rasp in the voice is uncanny. It is amazing.
Now or Never is one of my favorite songs.
EXCELLENT TIMING ON THIS LONG AWAITED EPISODE
I LOOK FORWARD TO THE DOCUMENTARY
Black thought just makes you want to expand your vocabulary!
I honestly cant think of an MC better than Black Thought
Tariq = GOAT
Great interview and interaction from every host even the intro...
Your favorite emcee's favorite emcee...
SALUTE General
Wow. They got the dude that did that fire 10 minute freestyle on Funk Flex. 😮
I spin back to it periodically, to hear the greatness.
His name is The Prime minister Thought aka Black Thought never forget He's Philly's finest
Wow. You heard a real MC. Congrats 🎉
I’ve been a black thought/roots fan since the 90s, but I think I’m just now ready to say he’s top 10 of all time. They don’t have the hits, but the longevity and “moments” (this Force Tour hype man thing being one of them) puts it over the top.
Greatest hip-hop duo of all time
One of the best, yet most humble Emcees to ever walk this earth!
Hi from Philly!!! Fly Eagles Fly!!! Go Birds!!!
The number 1 runner with the number 1 drummer!!!!!💪🏾

The Roots were a huge part while I was coming up. Thank you for this! 🥰
Things Fall Apart is my favorite Roots album. Classic after Classic
FINALLY!!!!!
So much gold in this interview! Thought and Ye story was hilarious
So glad they brought back the roll call!
This was so dope to see and hear. Being a big Roots fan for years, but aside from the music, the most I got from this interview was finding out what shows Tariq watches and hearing his journey through fatherhood. I loved this!
best mc alive.... def top 3 for any real head. Im stoked on this madlib album and would love a new Roots album.
Well, Tariq....priceless explanation as I recently finished Mo Meta Blues as a Johhny Come Lately (10 years after it was published) and was confused as everybody else in 2013: no thank you to Tariq? Now we know. Great conversation. And great impersonation of LL Cool J (still one of my favorites, still so much energy). Thank you for this get together.
So right about Queen Latifah. The woman has classic material in music, movies, and TV!
Much love from VA. We love The Roots. Fond memories of The Roots touring with Def Jux crew. Shout out everybody from both crews.
40 year friendshp!
"Black Thought,on a MC list you can't forget him not". 😁
It’s like a 8 persons on the episode only 4 of them really talked lol 😂
What a Great interview from one of the most talented Legends Ever, Seen the Roots Live a few different times, Black Never Disappoints
Incredible episode. Thank you. So many good stories and creative insights. It's truly inspirational to witness masters of their crafts and you guys exude it constantly
He was on 53rd and Osage, I was on 54th and Woodland.. 1.6 miles in West Philly. If we got sick, we went to CHOP.
Tariq needs to come on and hang out when you can book someone big-name cool to interview that you both love.
Thanks for this y'all!

The Equal Team--- I already know...Great interview...One of the greatest!
Finally, the big fish
Been waiting on this interview since day one
It's so rare to hear anyone talk about "What The #$*! Do We (K)now?" even when it first came out. I was fortunate to attend a screening when it opened and was completely blown away. I expected the movie to be a part of many a conversation, but for some reason it didn't receive any big mainstream recognition. Glad it's still getting notice. It's a great film. Loved this podcast conversation with everyone. Thank you for sharing! 🙏🏾😌💙🖤✨
I’m so dumb excited!!
Great interview 🙌🏾🙏🏽👑💫🔥🔥🔥💜
Bass Reeves show is awesome....my wife and I just finished watching it...awesome show!!!!!

Damn, Madlib just calls u on a humble and tells u 2 standby 4 beats coming through.
So, I'm excited about this joint with Madlib.
Super excited, perfect solstice activity. This & commune with trees. The light is on it's way.
Rollcall ReQuest with Love for Part 2: A Freestyle Friendzy. Could be a whole part 3, considering who we have vibing here.
I will never forget him. I always wondered why he didn't continue acting, I watched Brooklyn Babylon which I think I remember it bring called Solomons Song at the time, or something like it, in the 90s it was a quiet film, but really interesting. I don't remember the female lead much, but he had presence. Its a retelling of Solomons Song. Lots of train rides.
This was good
The GOAT!
Don't blink, Black Ink has arrived, all rise!
Black Thought is the greatest MC to breathe into a microphone
Yo how come you never mention Malik B, as a roots fan, I find that odd, we need to know what really happened between the group and Malik, his story needs to be told.
