    I was horrified of Karloff's monster as a kid. Now, I can see what a masterful acting performance he gave to this iconic role.

    In the original novel, the embittered Monster boasted that he was morally superior than the men who demonized him, citing that he had no vices, and did not eat meat or drink wine. I'm pretty sure James Whale read that and went "Eff this shid! My monster's cool!"

    • @firelordeliteast6750
      @firelordeliteast6750 Před 2 lety +11

      It makes more sense if you think about it. The monster is supposed to be some poor soul who was brought into existence under terrible circumstances in an unfortunate form. They don't want to be morally superior in any way, they just want to be loved like all humans are.

    Whale did not intend the relationship to be funny, but he made sure that these scenes included bits of humor. You know - two lonely people smoking cigars, drinking wine, having a good time just being friends.

    If only this could have been the last scene in the picture and those two ignoramuses had never shown up to spoil the great friendship of the blind man and the monster. There could have been the two of them sitting there, one playing the violin, the other saying, "Good!" and then The End.

    The monster could represent today's MAGA Maniacs and Doctor Frankenstein would represent their creator, the Republican party. Fire would represent logic and reason. Those who blindly befriend them always pay dearly in the end.

      Classic leftist projection. Want to upset the right, tell them a lie. What to upset the left, tell them the truth. It is leftists who reject logic and reason when reality doesn't fit their idea of how the world 'should' be. Nice try. And it's MAGA patriots, not maniacs. The patriots are always on the right. The subverters, traitors, and destroyers are going to be on the left. Nice try though.
