How cool that Phil was educated as a surveyor! He knows his stuff and it's very comforting to hear him say that no house is perfect, and that almost no imperfection is irreparable. Kirstie is of course brilliant in her own right and very intuitive about matchmaking people with houses.
What is the American equivalent of surveyor, do they mean appraiser ??

A surveyor in Australia is a completely different job. Surveyors in Australia work in land development, from the planning and design of land subdivisions through to the final construction of roads, utilities and landscaping. It’s measuring the lay if the land

Yeah, they already do that, hon, lol. What do you think this episode is? The problem is Location, Location, Location has been on the air for over 20 years, so there's been like 250 couples who have appeared on the show. They can only do updates on like 6 of them per year. They can't do updates on all 250 couples every year.

I love how, the moment a place needs a bit of work, when buyers go "I don't know if we have the time" or "I'm not sure I can handle doing it". It always makes me feel as if they think THEY THEMSELVES will be getting up to do their regular day job and then coming home and putting in another 8 hours doing a whole house renovation or adding an extension. You know they have people to do that for you, right? I get being iffy about the cost but worrying you don't have the "time" for it feels weird, imo.
Of course they're not doign the work themselves! lol But renovations require a lot of decisions and will impact your life. Like, if you're renovating a kitchen or bathroom, you can't use it while it's being renovating. What, did you think you were going to somehow gut an entire kitchen and bathroom and still be able to cook and take a shower? lol
Having the time can include enough time to do repairs before moving in or before a baby arrives or some other big life change happens. But of course, you have to make loads of decisions about every step of the process AND you should supervise the work and make sure that all questions are answered and all details are done according to plan.
My poor husband worked 12 hour days came home and worked on our house until midnight for nearly 8 months. I was managing a young baby and trying to work part time as well. We dis it ourselves and I'm glad but would never do it again

A great episode. I see from reading the comments that people are quite charmed by Helen. It would be nice to join you on that, but I see her as a very immature, somewhat petulant girl, given to tears if she doesn't get her own way. I'm sure there were even tantrums when they missed out on the house they really wanted. With those cracks in the wall though, they may well have dodged a bullet. Did she even get those cracks checked out, or was she so determined to have the house that she ignored them? Not that it matters now, anyway. At the end of the day, both couples were happy and they ended up with very nice houses.
Being a buyer and a Seller is Brutal and it is Made much worse by Estate Agents and Solicitors in my opinion
