A Korean Ramen Experiment Gone Right

  • The possibilities with ramen are endless. Different cultures can make their own styles, and each individual can put their own twist on it to make it their own. Since I love Korean food and often have Korean ingredients lying around, I decided to try this Korean-style ramen that I came up with. The results were even better than I anticipated.
    Ingredients:
    Bulgogi Pork
    -1 lb ground pork
    -5 cloves garlic
    -1 shallot or small onion
    -1/2 Korean pear (or canister of applesauce)
    -2 tbsp soy sauce
    -1 tbsp dark soy sauce
    -1 tsp sesame oil
    -1 tbsp gochujang
    -2 tbsp brown sugar
    -2 tbsp corn syrup or honey
    -Black pepper
    -1 scallion
    Mayak gyeran:
    -4 eggs
    -3 tbsp soy sauce
    -1 tbsp dark soy sauce
    -1/4 cup water
    -2 tbsp vinegar
    -3 tbsp corn syrup
    -4 cloves garlic
    -1 scallion
    -2 jalapeño or Thai chili (ideally gochu pepper)
    -1 tbsp sesame seeds
    Ramen:
    -4 servings of ramen noodles
    -6 cups dashi (6 cups water + 1 sheet kombu + 1 pack of bonito flakes) (alternatively use bouillon or veggie/chicken stock)
    -2 tbsp doenjang
    -1 tbsp miso paste
    -1 tbsp soy sauce
    -2 tsp sesame oil
    -Garnish with gim, enoki mushrooms, scallions, eggs, crispy onions, sesame seeds, bamboo shoots, etc
