  • In this third video of dealing with gold ore I got from Jason at MBMM, I finally get it all crushed into a fine powder after repairing my Smash-O-Matic ore crusher. Then I ran the ore through a sluice to concentrate it. Along the way I find some nuggets! Watch and see... Please visit mdpub.com/UrbanGoldMining/inde... for more information.

I watched the whole series of Jason's gold mine and I would process everything because Jason found gold even in the "barren" quartz.

Yeah there's another video of someone processing Jason's ore and it was loaded with ultra fine almost microscopic gold

I used to live in Pinellas County, so to hear you say "I got to drive across the bay to go to Tampa" brings back some really good memories!!

You must have lived here a while ago. Driving on 275 and I4 doesn't create good memories these days. It's a traffic nightmare. I only go to Tampa and further East if I absolutely have to.

Hi Mike, Great clean-up! About those rounded 'nuggets'....in all my years of mining and blasting, I've never come across brass blasting caps. Every one I've ever used is made from aluminum. Even military 'trip' mines have aluminum caps in them. Hope your nuggets are gold! I agree with the other comments about running everything thru Mr. Smash. Great video! My guess as to where you were going - the fossil clubs silent auction! Thumbs up! Take Care, Jim

You are right they are gold or brass. A quick soak in a 20 Milliliters of Nitric will tell you. If its brass, the brass will dissolve in nitric and give you a copper blue color. If it resists nitric, its likely gold. My first guess is that they are likely brass (but you never know).

Many seasoned miners/mining companies use the blasting process to pre-crush the rock/ore.
Its actually faster, and less expensive if you can really pulverize the ore in situ.
Likely, however, most of the gold from Jason's mine is laying on the floor of the mine.

Hey Mike, I have that very same sluice and love it!

I would check each and record the process showing if there is gold any of the 3 batches. But Inlove the science of the process.

I think you need to clean up the smash o matic and then run all of the “barren rock” and see what’s there. Sure it’s work, but hey, science.

I may do that, now that I have the good looking stuff all processed, and the Smash-O-Matic is running good.

Looking forward to the results. I agree with others that it's a good idea to run the rest of the ore. You just never know.

It could be the colour balance of the camera but the "gold in the rock" looks very much like pyrite to me. It did look like the same dark banded sulphides that Jason found associated with gold, but on the video it looked far more like pyrite, maybe in real life it looks better. I have seen plenty of "barren" quartz that shows free gold. No staining, no sulphides. I think it would be great to see you clean out the smask-o-matic and pan that, then run the rest of the ore to see if in fact its barren. If you have some nitric you can test the "nuggets", Just warm them up a bit and put a small drop of acid on and look under a magnifying glass/microscope/camera and see if there is a reaction, watch for bubbles. Good job, looking forward to the smelt and button weight, my guess - 0.38g

It's the camera and the fluorescent lighting. They give the gold a sort of greenish cast. It's not pyrite. The pyrite forms distinctive geometric cube-shaped masses, easy to see with a loupe The gold has an almost organic look to it. Like it flowed into the nooks and crannies of the rock.

    Brass will also burn.
    Gold will not.
Hit it with a powerful torch and it will become quite quickly evident.
Other than that, flotation displacement is a solid and proven method as well.

Just get some in the all bright. If they're brass they'll They'll turn black, and you can Polish them. If it is gold, it will just clean them, and you can tell the difference at that point.

Looking forward to see how much gold you got from that box you received.I think the money you spent would be better spent on lab equipment. But its a good time waster i guess.

Test it with nitric acid. Probably just brass and lead.

Maybe a drop of dilute muriatic on the mystery balls would tell you if brass or gold?
