My friend who mermaids, she needs to wear goggles, so she decked her out to look like her tail and bra, and it just looked so good. Also made it look like scales were fading into her skin. Edit: Thankie for the heart bab!
Oooh, I've never used eye drops, but I've always hated how my vision gets all blurry after swimming. I never realized those would help w/that! I'mma have to give some of those a try!
I also like the idea of mermaids using goggles as glasses. Just like: "Oh they're like glasses for mermaids" especially if the kid has glasses as well lol
WARNING KIMDA OFF TOPIC FROM THIS VIDEO BUT NOT THE CHANNEL You know what would be a cool tail to make, that would need to be fabric (that honestly I would buy from you) a selkie mermaid tail. Obviously that's not how selfies work, but it would be neat. Instead of a monofin it's two flippers inside feet pockets. And the fabric has short fur on it. That would be cool :3
Good stuff! I did a fair amount of open water scuba diving and we can't use earplugs (dangerous as you go deeper). What our dive instructor made a point of was dropping alcohol into your ears afterwards (basic rubbing alcohol or special formulas for ears). Equalizing pressure as you dive (like, below 3') by pinching your nose and kind of snorting into your eustachian tubes is important too.
How is there not more likes on this video?! I’m starting out as a new mermaid this summer since we’ll be getting a beachfront house this year as a vacation spot, and I figured nows the time to buy a monofin and tail! I can’t wait, and I’m so glad I have you to guide me through this wonderful journey!
Life as a merman is harder cause kids usually think your fake and say “your not real, there are no such thing as a merman, only mermaids” and some times I want to take my fluke and slap them in the face with it.🧜🏻♂️
@@tocadem "that is not nice to children" it's also not nice to be sexist, but i guess that doesn't matter? and exactly like the rat said, how do you think mermaids even exist? they just.... appear out of nowhere? no, the *male* and female merfolk reproduce.
Thanks for the eye tips especially! I have low vision, and am pretty protective of what eyesight I have. I’ve got fake tears and goggles, but may have to give the eye gel a try.
practice swimming without a tail and prove to them that you're a strong enough swimmer for a mermaid tail! Practice doing the dolphin kick with your legs together without a tail.
Just subscribed! I am looking into making my own tail, and possibly becoming a professional mermaid ( I've been a swimmer all my life and a professional model for the last 5 years, I just did an underwater commercial recently and the inspiration STRUCK ME HARD! lol) You were so helpful and and very informative, thank you for sharing your experience!!
That's wonderful! Everyone is different. It took me a long time to get used to it but now I am and I know my limits and I do my best to take good care of my eyes. ♥
I'm new to mermaiding... though I've swum like a mermaid since I was a little girl I didn't know they had monofin or mermaid tails until semi recently... and I'm currently attempting to get my own monotail and... possibly leggings to start. ^^
I wear googles that cover my nose and eyes so yeah I am not the best mermaid but I am practicing not using googles so soon I will be able to swim without googles :3
If you have the eye drops you still ca t see. I think they should make ether clear goggles that you can't see or make goggle contacts that you can see through in the water like if you agree
I need to use goggles all the time, so im classified as "The Blind Mermaid". Even in fresh water I cant see, so I use goggles all the time, but theyre low profile so it doesnt bother me
i personally use goggles because i tend to only swim in salt water (no pools in my area aloud tails) and i do have to admit i feel out of place being the mermaid who wears goggles 😁 but people like you are definitely making me feel much better about doing so. So thank you ❤
I pretty much use goggles all the time... it’s just more comfortable! And actually I can see relatively well under water even though I wear glasses on land too 🤗 I have to use one of those in the nose plugs because any nose plug I’ve tried on the outside just slides off when I submerge 😂 And then I spend the next 30 minutes diving to get it back lol But I can’t wait to get a Luna!! I’ve got material ready when I get it to make a tail! I’m so excited!! I just need to order the fin!! 💙 Anyway awesome video and I agree with your tips and tricks! I’ll have to try the eye drops when I do try opening my eyes underwater! Happy Swimming!!
I’m 14 and I’ve started mermaiding about 2 years ago, and I was wondering how I could get a jumpstart to a possible mermaid career? I always have so much fun and I’ve been thinking about how I might make it even better.
Be careful with earplugs especially if your free diving and using the tail, anything deep water or open water earplugs will disrupt your ears equalization and can cause ear damage or pinching. If your in a pool or a shallow river pond lake it should be ok
Unfortunately I cannot wear nose clips because I have my nose pierced. It hurts really, really bad. But I use the funky goggles with the nose cover-er.
I don't know if this is a stupid question or not but if you are at a gig and your doctor tells you its not a good idea to not wear goggles because my eyes a so sensitive as is and Idk I want to seem real as possible and I should just say they are mermaid glasses lol or should I not do that?
That's a tough call to make really. I don't know a lot of mermaids who are able to use goggles during gigs but then there always has to be a first and it could be you! Try to come up with a creative story (like you said glasses might work) and maybe you can decorate them or find a pair that isn't too obvious or flashy? Then maybe you can pop them off when you surface and slip them on when you need to be underwater? Let me know how it goes! ♥️
Great advices all in all! Especially the part with the eye gel! I sometimes use eye drops but I wasn't aware this could be a good option too. Definitely gonna try this! And do you maybe have an advice for me where to get nose plugs? (I live in Germany so shipping to Europe must be an option) I've always used clips but ever since I've read about nose plugs I want a pair at least for performances... One thing I wonder about though: Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't earplugs dangerous at least when you dive deeper as a mermaid (like 4+ meters)? Wouldn't it affect ear clearing? I remember having my coach tell me to not wear earplugs when diving deeper than a normal public pool's depth.
I wanted to say thank you for all of your recommendations and education!!! I purchased the luna(big wide feet) and I love it!!! I don’t think other mono fins would have fit me due to my wide feet. So thank you!!!!
Water in ears: I'm so lucky that even though I get water in my ears, I just turn my head to the side and it drains out. Nose clips: I might need to get me one of those or the ones that go up my nose. Fake tears: I need them either way. Goggles: I use them cause I have a scar on my right eye. Monofin: I might get that one. I'm so happy cause all of my tails are being shipped from Ireland (my uncle's house).
when I started mermaiding I already owned a good pair of googles and a nose clam, as I was always very sensitive to chlorinated water. So I've pretty much been using them from the beginning, but I also got a couple of stupid comments at the pool like "mermaids are not supposed to need those things". Of cause I would prefer if I didn't need them but for me, it's just not worth the pain, I want to enjoy swimming and that's more important for me then "looking the part"... once I dive down you'll just see the pretty tail, anyways.
Salt water is a little easier on your eyes, depending on how clean the water is where you are, since your tears are made of salt water. I still recommend drops, gel and goggles when you can though, otherwise it's the same as opening your eyes in other water.
Hey, I must ask - how easy is the Luna to kick off? I'm physically pretty strong when it comes to swimming, but I would prefer to have the mental safety net of "If this goes wrong, I can get it off instantly" to calm any anxiety that might show up.
I’ve not tried to kick it off before and I find it doesn’t slide around on my heels. That being said it can be undone at the straps and I am able to get it off quickly with one hand.
Very interesting, nice tips. I know this is so old for you. Like I said in another comment I just found mermading and you and your beautiful tails, so I am very very far behind and am just loving gathering lots of interesting information. Thanks❤
Question: Some “mermaids” swim in open water like big lakes or even the ocean when free diving. Is it possible to swim in the ocean without goggles? And not worry about your eyes getting unhealthy stuff in them and damaging them of long term? Because I’ve asked this question in a bunch of different places and have gotten a bunch of different answers. Some say you can as long as the water isn’t murky. Others say never do it. Others say you have to wear goggles in the ocean period. Some people have claimed that swim in the ocean without goggles and be perfectly fine. I ask if it burns their eyes and they say no and when I ask them how to condition your eyes to not burn they don’t answer. I have never swam in the ocean or dove in it before so I don’t know. I probably sound very ignorant but is it possible to swim in the ocean without goggles and not worry about your eye health and is it possible to get your eyes to grow accustomed to salt water so they don’t burn anymore?
When you think of all of the chemicals in a pool you expose your eyes to, it’s honestly about the same. Where you encounter something new is the microorganisms and little critters that exist out in the ocean and in lakes. No matter where you choose to swim with your eyes open you run the risk of hurting your eyes.
I just bought my first tail, so I don’t know much... but I’m under the impression that each tail fits only one mono fin type? Such as one brand only goes with that brand. Is that right?
Typically-speaking that is the case though their are some exceptions to this rule in regards to monofins that are similar in size or tail skins made of a stretchier-that-average fabric. Nerdmaid Faith has talked about this on her channel in a few videos and reviews.
I have a friend who used to have ear problems, she put Blue Tac in her ears when we used to swim. I'm not sure of how safe this is. Could it work? I doubt the safety of it.
I love your videos because you're not afraid to be who you are you just do you and don't worry about like what other people think like if I was to become a mermaid in like go in the water I would kind of be a bit worried but not too worried about what people like think and like if they were looking at me so I commend you for being well Brave
Hey! I'm a mermaid who needs glasses, so I have a pair of prescription goggles for myself (also because my eyes are very sensitive to chlorine and salt water). They definitely don't look very magical. I'd like to decorate them somehow. I was thinking possibly wearing steampunk goggles (like when a mermaid finds sunken human technology) but then again, I'm not sure how well they'd work underwater, or how I could make my goggles look like steampunk goggles. Any ideas?
Yah uhm the first time I did a backflip it was at my friends house and she didn't warn me about water going up my nose and I almost drowned... Her and I are still friends :)
(No hate or bosting/bragging was meant to be described in this comment) So, this is the truth about me; My parents are literally convinced I started to become a mermaid over the years, I started swimming when I was 3 months old! I wasswimming by myself when I was 4, and my teachers were always impressed! This video says that it can be hard to try to be a mermaid because there can be some pain and she also said to ACT like you are one with the water, but I AM one with the water! I can't not open my eyes under water.
#mermaidtip If you have trouble with water going inside your nose, I find that if right when I go into the water I blow a little air out of my nose and it seals it up!
does anyone know any good nose plugs that are compatible with septum piercing? i cant stand having water in my nose and the standard clips or goggles with the nose built in hurt like heck-
Hey Courtney you realise if you know those masquerade masks that everyone wears like Halloween or whatever maybe you should do that make like nice slow masquerading goggles so in like strap them to your face because the goggles rate you just have bright new look great
Do earplugs help with ear pressure? Or is ear pressure included in water in your ears? I don't have much problems with water getting in my ears, but I'm not used to the pressure when going really deep yet. Do earplugs help with that?
But I'm terrible with eye drops! I just close my eyes if anyone tries to put them in for me, and if I had to do it myself , then I wouldn't do it at all.
My friend who mermaids, she needs to wear goggles, so she decked her out to look like her tail and bra, and it just looked so good. Also made it look like scales were fading into her skin.
Edit: Thankie for the heart bab!
I am planning on getting an old fashioned pair of diving googles and painting them steampunk-style ^^
I do that too!! I say they're my "mer-glasses" if anyone asks!
Oooh, I've never used eye drops, but I've always hated how my vision gets all blurry after swimming. I never realized those would help w/that! I'mma have to give some of those a try!
People should make eye contacts that act as goggles Edit: wow wish I could go back to this year, 2020’s trash😂
Yes they really should!
Agreed. I cant open my eyes underwater
I agree but I am used to swimming with eyes open so it’s no big deal
when I was a little girl trying to swim like a mermaid I would swim with my eyes open but I started to learn it really hurts your eyes!
I think about this all the time, it would be nice to see clearly underwater with out wearing googles
I also like the idea of mermaids using goggles as glasses. Just like: "Oh they're like glasses for mermaids" especially if the kid has glasses as well lol
Well I don't care if water gets in my ears but I DO CARE A LOT if water gets in my nose!
I'm the other way around. :P
Lana Snow: same!!!
Both I don’t like
SAME!
prevent this by blowing small bubbles out of your nose!
I'm 14 and I really want to swim like a mermaid sooooooo bad💗 I love watching these video thx for helping!!
My pleasure! I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying my content!
omg thx for replying!!!
OMG also same! Did you try The FinFun mermaid tails????? I’m saving up!
I have enough money for a tail, but my dad said it is to dangerous. 🙄 I’ve been practicing for 2 years!
Try fin fun
IS THT SCALE MAKEUP ON UR FACE WATER PROOF?? CUZ IF IT IS, CAN YE DO A TUTORIAL PLZ
WARNING KIMDA OFF TOPIC FROM THIS VIDEO BUT NOT THE CHANNEL

That sounds interesting! I actually used to make all my tails with two flippers and not monofins haha!
Courtney Mermaid oh cool! Must have been hard 😰
just learned today that finfolk is possibly making a selkie tail for their fall fabric tail release!
Emma Lee Stone yooooooooo, where did you see this I need to knowwwww
During their livestream on FB right before today's release they talked about it!
I like how you said, "You humans-"
Good stuff!
I did a fair amount of open water scuba diving and we can't use earplugs (dangerous as you go deeper). I love that you can hold your nose clips like a ring! I’ll be using this great tip for sure!

I totally talked about this in a video I have coming up. It's going to be epic so stay tuned for that this month!
that is not nice to children like me plus their not real your fake
@@tocadem do you think mermaids just clone themselves instead of having babies, then?
@@tocadem "that is not nice to children" it's also not nice to be sexist, but i guess that doesn't matter? and exactly like the rat said, how do you think mermaids even exist? they just.... appear out of nowhere? no, the *male* and female merfolk reproduce.
I Can swim without noseclips or other things but it's a nice Video for people whitch can't swim without it ...so this is a good Video and i like it ☺
I'm going to order my tail soon, and this really helps~! Thanks for the tips~!!!
Thanks for the eye tips especially! I have low vision, and am pretty protective of what eyesight I have. I’ve got fake tears and goggles, but may have to give the eye gel a try.
I'm so happy you found it helpful! I hope that eye gel works for you! Thank you for watching!
I’m on board with goggles but I don’t mind water in my ears.
I'm so jealous! I wish I didn't have to wear earplugs all the time.
Water gets in your ears?
Me too. It does'nt really mind me. Dunno why
I don’t mind water in my ears but I water in my eyes ugh. I have been mermaiding for I think for 5 years and I agree with all of these things
I want a mermaid tail so bad, but my parents think it will drown me, I would ask my grandma but she’s trying to get me a laptop🤔😂🧜🏽♀️
Luna Gamer : try swimming like a mermaid without the mermaid tail in front of your parents
practice swimming without a tail and prove to them that you're a strong enough swimmer for a mermaid tail! Practice doing the dolphin kick with your legs together without a tail.
Sameee except the laptop part-
Mer-mazing advice! ^u^
I'm glad you liked it!
Mermaid Nia I love mermaids
Courtney Mermaid thanks. :) love u lot
Those are vanquisher 2.0 clear goggles!! 100% recommend!!! Barely ever leak!! ❤️❤️ I'm on my like 11th pair...

There's absolutely nothing wrong with needing to, or preferring to, use goggles! You are just as much a mermaid as anyone else! ♥️♥️♥️
Same!!!!
I know this was posted a year ago but if you still use goggles maybye decorate them so it's mermaid style? Like seaweed looking straps, idk 😆 I
Great advice--and I love the light blue tail hanging in the background!
Thanks for the great advice Courtney! I'm only a kid :) and soon i'm getting a mermaid tail so thanks for helping with some tips :D
You are very welcome!
I love how u just say pools ..I swim in springs ^^
The eye drops are great advice because i just learned how to open my eyes under water

Where do you get them from
I wear thick prescription goggles. So don't feel bad about it.
OKAY
I have one of those mermaid Disney cap
i personally use goggles because i tend to only swim in salt water (no pools in my area aloud tails) and i do have to admit i feel out of place being the mermaid who wears goggles 😁 but people like you are definitely making me feel much better about doing so. So thank you ❤

Thank you so much for watching!
I hate getting water up my nose but when I come up from the water I usually breath through my nose
I think I will try to use the first 3 stuff because those would be on hand if you need them. I love you.
Thank you , very helpful!
I’m 14 and I’ve started mermaiding about 2 years ago, and I was wondering how I could get a jumpstart to a possible mermaid career? I always have so much fun and I’ve been thinking about how I might make it even better.

I know other people who have to wear goggles too! There's nothing wrong with that! I wear goggles a lot of the time too!
I don't have them, but I need them
Mermaid Jaffa wait... those are a thing??
Yes. Otherwise us sight challenged mers would be bumping into things all the time!
I am short sighted but I don't wear goggles because mine let water in
Love your mermaid friend Jada
I don't you any of these things (except the monofin) and my mermaid experience is great. Am I blessed?

This was actually very helpful I am a new mermaid
I personally suggest the fin fun AMP monofin for comfort
Thanks, so much for this Tipps.
You are very welcome!
Wohoooooo
Edit: omg Courtney liked my comment and hearted it :O
Note:Anyone with a small nose I recommend the finis nose clip
I just got that fin a a few days ago and it is awesome
Water in ears: I'm so lucky that even though I get water in my ears, I just turn my head to the side and it drains out.

thanks for this vid this is the best
I just turned 15 my mom said I can become a professional mermaid I can be a lifeguard but I’m not old enough I’m a really good swimmer
I don't have a tail but my dad said he might get me one for my birthday!!!!!😍
Ooo! So exciting!
Does the Luna fin go well in a finfolk fabric tail?
I don't imagine it would work well because it is so flexible.
yes
I Love your videos💙i'm from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thank you!

I wouldn't recommend anything that isn't meant to be put in your ears.
would you say the eye drops would help for the lake also? Like if i open my eyes underwater at the lake then put eye drops after they should be okay?

What about the official fin fun company on Amazon? I bought two and I think they are amazing!!

I can't not open my eyes under water.

If you have trouble with water going inside your nose, I find that if right when I go into the water I blow a little air out of my nose and it seals it up!
I'm really wanting to be a professional mermaid! I've been practicing holding my breath for a while now. :3
I have goggles, and a monofin, I don't really have any problems with water in my ears and nose.
Where did you get those light skin colored goggles? Or are they clear? They look really low-profile and not as noticeable as all the neon ones.
I can open my eyes underwater without eyedrops but my eyes get all red after swimming, how do I prevent this from happening?
Eye drops, eye gel, goggles and taking breaks will help.
Which nose clip is that? It's low profile, which I like. Some of them seem to stick up really far over the bridge of the nose.
Not a mermaid yer but as a kid i open my eyes underwater
If I were ever to be a mermaid I need goggles on top of my glasses so I can see and don’t accidentally boink my head and die 🙂
Almost 7k subs! I got you a subscriber (me) :)
Thank you! ♥ Welcome to the pod!
I want a mahina, also I want to get a mahina tail skin. I don’t like leggings
does anyone know any good nose plugs that are compatible with septum piercing? i cant stand having water in my nose and the standard clips or goggles with the nose built in hurt like heck-
Hey Courtney you realise if you know those masquerade masks that everyone wears like Halloween or whatever maybe you should do that make like nice slow masquerading goggles so in like strap them to your face because the goggles rate you just have bright new look great
Do you teach at uk ?
I lost my tail but I have my modophin
You hate water in your ears? I don’t know why but I love the feeling...... I am weird
My tail is on the way
So exciting!
Awesome!!!!
Do earplugs help with ear pressure? Or is ear pressure included in water in your ears? I don't have much problems with water getting in my ears, but I'm not used to the pressure when going really deep yet. Do earplugs help with that?
No, earplugs don't help with the pressure and can actually cause more pressure if they are not vented.
@@CourtneyMermaid Thankyou!
I thought mermaids did not use noseplugs, a clear one would be totally invisible anyway
Mermaids use lots of little tricks, including nose clips, to make the experience more enjoyable. ;)
I need these!
Nose clips would be really useful
But I'm terrible with eye drops! I just close my eyes if anyone tries to put them in for me, and if I had to do it myself , then I wouldn't do it at all.
Plus I always use goggles, I have 2 pairs just in case I lose 1 pair
I wuss those to
Try finfun mono fin
