Being a mermaid is about so much more than just swimming in a mermaid tail, it is a way of life. It is a journey of discovering who you are and who your are meant to be and of sharing a passion for the water with others and forging friendships that will last a life time. It is about believing in yourself through the thick and thin and encouraging others to do the same.
Being a mermaid is about keeping that little spark alive, that little spark that reminds us that anything is possible with a monofin, some fabric and dream.

There was (I forget who wore it but it was some mermaid), but because of how the water surrounds your eyes, one of them just got sucked right out and it was uncomfortable, apparently. People still wear contacts underwater (I do as well for when I do cosplays with my tail), but it's... messier in practice than you'd expect

There’s no silicone tails for kids but there are silicone monofins that can fit a kid and aren’t like 1000 dollars you do NOT need a silicone tail to be a professional mermaid I have been watching Courtney’s videos for a year and she’s a professional mermaid she has no silicone tails.
Silicone tails are heavy expensive can rip and you have to be very careful with one there also a lot of work.
Also if you wash your tail right after you get out of a pool after every swim it will last way longer.

@@cutiecateythemermaid2789 Not to mention silicone tails, at least those that have more detailed paint on them, will absolutely start to show wear and tear quickly as well. The paint will start to come off and will look more and more janky over time. It's a lot easier to replace a fabric tail than it is to replace a silicone tail, even though they look more "real".

  • @Amphitera

just do yourself a favor and use goggles/masks/clips. The more mermaids do it as a matter of fact, the more people get used to seeing it as natural (there is nothing natural about a chlorine pool anyway).
Also, having eyes (and a brain) is nice. Both can get lost if you swim without protection.

I know they make LED lights and objects that are waterproof, I wonder if you could create some sinkers or an assortment of contraptions to give you "markers" to look at while underwater. Perhaps have one strapped to the camera so if you have to look for the camera, there's a bright dot there to look at.

When I was a little kid, I used to be able to see clearly underwater without the use of goggles or a mask...but then one day, I guess the pool I was at had an overdose of chlorine and my eyes felt like they got fried, it hurt to open them but it also hurt to close them and I had to rely on goggles for clear underwater vision...I can somewhat see underwater naturally now, but it's still kind of blurred and uncomfortable, like I can see broad things like the black lines on the bottom of the pool, but I can't see the fine little details like the hair on my arms.

Ugh I wish it wasn't winter in Australia so I could go swim at the beach (they banned tails at my pool :( )
But also, I always open my eyes in the pool without goggles and whatnot. I'm blind above water and so it doesn't bother me to be so blind underwater in a pool. It's just normal eyesight for me haha, nothing different to if I didn't wear my glasses above water (literally the strongest lenses they had for my glasses, yeah I may as well be legally blind at some stage). But beaches and stuff I wear goggles because the water stings my eyes too much. If I swum in even a freshwater lake or something I'd still wear goggles, just because it's open water and I don't know it like I do the pool.
I had those eyedrops once, and they didn't sting my eyes at all :\
But speaking of the eyedrops to use after swimming, I uh...yeah never used them in my 20 years. I just swim until my eyes sting then get out. Rinse them if I remember (doesn't happen often). The haze doesn't bother me, eh

As a retired optician I found your video very informative as well as very interesting. Not being a swimmer myself I was surprised to learn that it's nearly impossible to see underwater. You do an amazing job of as you say "faking it" because in watching you underwater your eyes seemed to be completely focused as you looked in the direction of the camera. I am curious because I watched several videos of you underwater in your mermaid suit wearing glasses. If you can't see very well underwater anyway why were you wearing your glasses?
By the way those drops you seem to hate having put into your eyes are called "dilating drops" and the purpose of them is to check your eye pressures and to relax your eyes and eliminate any eye strain you may have. With the drops in it allows the optometrist to get a very good look at the back of your eyes. One of the things he / she is checking for is any early signs of glaucoma. The drops also provides your eyes with a much more accurate prescription for your glasses then not dilating your eyes. Of course the down side is that for about 4 - 6 hours your eyes are going to remain dilated and your eyesight is going to be rather blurry even with your glasses being on and you're not wanting to be in any sunlight.
You truly do look like what I would expect a mermaid to look like the way you move and look in the water.
