Being a mermaid is about so much more than just swimming in a mermaid tail, it is a way of life. It is a journey of discovering who you are and who your are meant to be and of sharing a passion for the water with others and forging friendships that will last a life time. It is about believing in yourself through the thick and thin and encouraging others to do the same.
Being a mermaid is about keeping that little spark alive, that little spark that reminds us that anything is possible with a monofin, some fabric and dream.
Welcome to the Vancouver Mermaid Pod!
Imagene if someone actually made a pair of eyecontacts that helps with seeing underneath the water 😭😭
OREO FOR YOU I was thinking about that a couple days ago
Buying them IMMEDIATELY
There was (I forget who wore it but it was some mermaid), but because of how the water surrounds your eyes, one of them just got sucked right out and it was uncomfortable, apparently. People still wear contacts underwater (I do as well for when I do cosplays with my tail), but it's... messier in practice than you'd expect
@@maplehockeylove6339 It was french mermaid Claire la Sirène. 😊 But these lenses are designed for professional shootings or movie actors, so they are pretty uncomfortable and easy to loose in the water (and of course very expensive !).
MapleHockeyLove It’s kind of dangerous if you don’t do it without goggles...
'humans aren't made for seeing underwater"
Me: BUT MERMAIDS ARE!
*Dives into water and crashes into everything*
I feel like my vision underwater is exactly the same as my natural eyesight, now saying that my eyesight really sucks 😝
Lol 😆

This is a very useful video! Usually my eyes are "ok" in pools, but my local pool I swim at is heavily chlorinated and/or has some other chemicals in the water, after two dives, my eyes are florescent red and burning!
I like that you mentioned that it’s ok to wear goggles if you want just the mermaid experience. I’ve tried opening my eyes for pictures, but I end up squinting. I wear my tail for the experience and it’s easier for me to feel like a mermaid when I can see clearly
Can you do a vid about tips on how to train yourself/lungs to hold your breathe for long time
I’m struggling with that xD
Alisabelle Simon me too :P
Me too 😭 I really want to be a professional mermaid! But I’m a kid and I only have fabric tails but they are ripping and stuff but silicone tails are expensive for a kid 😭 and I don’t know where there are silicone tails I can buy for a kid like me
There’s no silicone tails for kids but there are silicone monofins that can fit a kid and aren’t like 1000 dollars you do NOT need a silicone tail to be a professional mermaid I have been watching Courtney’s videos for a year and she’s a professional mermaid she has no silicone tails.
Silicone tails are heavy expensive can rip and you have to be very careful with one there also a lot of work.
Also if you wash your tail right after you get out of a pool after every swim it will last way longer.
@@cutiecateythemermaid2789 Not to mention silicone tails, at least those that have more detailed paint on them, will absolutely start to show wear and tear quickly as well. The paint will start to come off and will look more and more janky over time. It's a lot easier to replace a fabric tail than it is to replace a silicone tail, even though they look more "real".

Gonna make a pair of goggles to look mermaid-like. Maybe some silicone molded barnacle clusters, or a tiny starfish and some seashells. That way they dont just look like plain goggles
Them look like they need them to see like humans with glasses do
i have a trick for smiling with an open mouth! press your tongue to the top of your mouth and create a vacuum so no water goes in your mouth >.
The first person who invents contact lenses that improve underwater vision is going to get literal fistfuls of my cash thrown at them. In the meantime... I just cheat a bit with my mer-sona for the sake of comfort. Being a bug-eyed water monster has its perks.
The secret to seeing underwater,
Goggles.
Unfortunately I don't have a pool/public pool in the little town I live in, so I do all my swimming at the river. I always use goggles to avoid getting sand or dirt in my eyes, but the trick I learned is to take them off right before I surface! Illuuuusions lol
Just made my first tail today. I made it after your videos and It looks great. 😊 thank you so much for these videos ❤️
I have a question! So Courtney, I always swim with my tail in my pool! It is part sea salt and part chlorine! Now every time I swim in the pool without goggles and I open my eyes I’m fine but when I’m done it kinda burn! Do you have any tips for it not to hurt? Thanks! ❤️🧜🏻♀️
just do yourself a favor and use goggles/masks/clips. The more mermaids do it as a matter of fact, the more people get used to seeing it as natural (there is nothing natural about a chlorine pool anyway).
Also, having eyes (and a brain) is nice. Both can get lost if you swim without protection.
to possibly quote Courtney, humans put so much stuff in the pool water we have to use masks, goggles etc...
to quote my dive instructor about the pool: this stuff is dead, now out in a river or ocean, that's alive...
If you don't have eye drops or you ran out, you can wet a paper towel with clean, cold water (drinking quality) and then squeeze it out into your eyes. Blink a couple of times and your eyes will feel much better!
I've had to remind myself to smile so many times that now whenever I start getting contractions, I instinctively make a big smile😀😖
I wish I could buy one of your tails.... but I only have like 200 bucks and I’m saving for a computer... but I love your tails and I wish I can buy one someday!
I know they make LED lights and objects that are waterproof, I wonder if you could create some sinkers or an assortment of contraptions to give you "markers" to look at while underwater. Perhaps have one strapped to the camera so if you have to look for the camera, there's a bright dot there to look at.
Your the one who made me buy my first mermaid tail,I still have to get better with the kick though😆
Hi Courtney, I was wondering if you make custom fabric tails for people. If you do what's your usual price point? Thank you.
You should make a video what monofin you shouldn't if you have chronic foot pain
My swimming teacher as a kid forbade us from wearing goggles (I think the goal was to be prepared in case of falling in by accident) and I definitely got desensitized to it and "learned" to see (ie interpret the super blurry shapes)
I needed this, thank you
Your videos help me so much
Mermaid frost is back! Amazing tips💙💙💙
I'm now mermaid Atlantis >:3
I blink so much underwater😂
same it helps
When I was a little kid, I used to be able to see clearly underwater without the use of goggles or a mask...but then one day, I guess the pool I was at had an overdose of chlorine and my eyes felt like they got fried, it hurt to open them but it also hurt to close them and I had to rely on goggles for clear underwater vision...I can somewhat see underwater naturally now, but it's still kind of blurred and uncomfortable, like I can see broad things like the black lines on the bottom of the pool, but I can't see the fine little details like the hair on my arms.
I am new to mermaiding
THE CHLORINE HAZE IS REAL Y'ALL! I was getting my lifeguard certification earlier this year and my one of my eyes hazed over the 2nd day of training it was rough!
Can you make a video how to swim like a mermaid
🧜♀️🧜♂️🧜♀️🧜♂️🧜♀️
If I ever make videos of me swimming in my tail, I’m just going to have my eyes closed underwater, bc chlorine can’t be good for your eyes
If you don’t do it to much, it’s fine! Just make sure you don’t over-do it!
Ugh I wish it wasn't winter in Australia so I could go swim at the beach (they banned tails at my pool :( )
But also, I always open my eyes in the pool without goggles and whatnot. I'm blind above water and so it doesn't bother me to be so blind underwater in a pool. It's just normal eyesight for me haha, nothing different to if I didn't wear my glasses above water (literally the strongest lenses they had for my glasses, yeah I may as well be legally blind at some stage). But beaches and stuff I wear goggles because the water stings my eyes too much. If I swum in even a freshwater lake or something I'd still wear goggles, just because it's open water and I don't know it like I do the pool.
I had those eyedrops once, and they didn't sting my eyes at all :\
But speaking of the eyedrops to use after swimming, I uh...yeah never used them in my 20 years. I just swim until my eyes sting then get out. Rinse them if I remember (doesn't happen often). The haze doesn't bother me, eh
What do you do after you swim, when your eyes get dry from the calorie?
Wow
I can barely open my eyes in the lake I like to swim at (never unsupervised) because it’s too cold for my eyes 😂
But over chlorinated poolC no problem!
yup, this is why I am the mermaid with a mask... also, I hate chlorine
So that’s how confusing it probably was for Daryl Hannah.
My eyes got hazy before and I just continued swimming then my eyes were red and hurting for the hole day
yes finally its burns when i do open my eyes lol
and if you use scleral lenses for farsighted people.. they should not fall out and their curvature compensates for the refraction of light in water..
Ilysm! Great video
What eyedrops should I bring?
So i got my orca tail in! Yay, first swim ever, double yay, swimming in a super smooth white fiber glass pool triple yay!!! realizing I cant tell where the walls of the pool are because everything is white except the sky above me and some of my tail and bumping my face into walls like an orca in a tank,,, *Roblocks oof* / added Experience! YAY?...
Cool
HII
THANKS YOU
How is there only 22 comments!?
OMG Thank you for liking it! You made my day! You probabaly get this a lot hehe. Thanks again

Ppl "Courtney how do you see underwater?" "What does lighting have to do with seeing underwater?" Me:so Courtney How do you see underwater😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Thank you 😘❤️
As a retired optician I found your video very informative as well as very interesting. Not being a swimmer myself I was surprised to learn that it's nearly impossible to see underwater. You do an amazing job of as you say "faking it" because in watching you underwater your eyes seemed to be completely focused as you looked in the direction of the camera. I am curious because I watched several videos of you underwater in your mermaid suit wearing glasses. If you can't see very well underwater anyway why were you wearing your glasses?
By the way those drops you seem to hate having put into your eyes are called "dilating drops" and the purpose of them is to check your eye pressures and to relax your eyes and eliminate any eye strain you may have. With the drops in it allows the optometrist to get a very good look at the back of your eyes. One of the things he / she is checking for is any early signs of glaucoma. The drops also provides your eyes with a much more accurate prescription for your glasses then not dilating your eyes. Of course the down side is that for about 4 - 6 hours your eyes are going to remain dilated and your eyesight is going to be rather blurry even with your glasses being on and you're not wanting to be in any sunlight.
You truly do look like what I would expect a mermaid to look like the way you move and look in the water.
Thanks for watching me video and for your comment! It isn't me wearing the glasses, that's Nerdmaid Faith and they don't help her see underwater, it's purely for the look she wants to achieve. :)
What bothers me because it makes sense but still doesnt work is that without glasses, it looks the same as it does trying to see under water. But my glasses fix that, and it doesnt work under water and I know it shouldn't but I wish it did loool
Hi
Whenever I open my eyes underwater, it makes my breath hold much shorter and its really annoying 🙃
How do you do that
Cool insights.
My eyes hazed over four hours and it was scary
Dream invention: invisible swimming goggles
I can open my eyes under water in chlorine, salt, and mineral mineral is great
Same
Do you sell these tales and how can I contact you to get one
I do make and sell custom mermaid tails, I am not currently accepting orders as I am still full up. Keep an eye on my social media for the next available slots. Thank you for your interest! ♥
Tbh never felt pain when I started I did start at 4 Bc I hated hitting my head on the wall so I was like ok I’ll just open my eyes lol then I saw rainbows 😱😱😱
Anybody else out there that can mouth words without getting water up your nose?
never smile with a dive mask on... you'll flood it...
I learned that the hard way haha!
How do you breathe under water
Someone should design goggles/swim mask for mermaids that actually look good and like they are part of the mermaid. Either completely transparent that look more natural and less bulky, or with a mermaidy design with like fish scales.
I did end up making myself a pair at the beginning of the year that is mostly transparent with some subtle sequin/fish scale detailing.
What if there is chlorine
That is very weird when I go swimming and there is no lights in the pool I can see 100% ok I can see everything around me
I’m already blind ABOVE water, my glasses prescription is like -4.5!!!
Hooo ra
I have realised that I have absolutely no pain at all while seeing underwater.
I can se under water like
I want to be a mermaid, but I don't have the money to be one :(
Speaking of, my underwater vision is the same as my eyesight without glasses (sobbing)
When I open my eyes in the pool I can't see
Part of mermaiding is acting haha
Wait.... I can see underwater?
i can see underwater with no goggles but it is BLURRY
Wear goggles but disguise them as a mask
