Song reminds me so much of my husband. He will be coming home soon from prison. Drugs got him there, but hes trying. This song gives me peace but yet makes me cry. For 20 years, I rode beside him through good and bad of jail, prison, and drugs. I raised the kids. Everything Struggle says in this song is what my husband says. Its always when they come home things seem to be ok. I will always love him no matter how good or bad things are !!!

I just wanted to shout out to Struggle. I know I’m not alone when I say my family has a similar, no almost identical story, however, my husband, who looks a lot like you, went to the feds when our daughter was only two, did twelve years and could have rolled on a lot of people but didn’t. He shut his mouth and did his time with his head held high no matter the pain he felt in his heart daily, or the losses he took or the time he lost. He holds no grudges but he will never be able to forget, no matter how hard he tries. The ptsd from the way he had to be behind those bars to survive and the shit he had to do to gain respect and the keys to the Kansas car in there are memories now, but it’s hard to change your ways of conducting yourself and the thought processes that become ways of life while living in that hell every day for 160 months. That’s time lost, time he and we will never get back. Birthdays and holidays, a lot of “firsts” for our daughter and even for our older children. He’s hard on himself about all of this but is really trying so hard to be the man that he is deep down. And leave those prison ways and mentalities behind him. He refuses to go back for any reason (other than if anyone decided to put myself or our children in any kind of danger, he stands on going back for that lol and I very much believe him!) But after ten years in another world basically, the transition back into society and into his family has not been an easy one. However, it’s been very much a learning experience for ALL of us. I had no idea what it was really going to be like even on my end and to be honest I was very unfair to him and had too high of an expectation set for him but I didn’t know better. I got to continue living outside those walls, as times and technology grew, I experienced all this. All the while he didn’t. And I had no idea the impact that would actually have on him. And on us. And how hard his transition would actually be, and not just for him. Everyone involved has learned many things, about the other persons side of things especially. But none of us had ever been through this either. And it’s not just textbook theories and ideas as people think things should be. It is never just that easy. There is way more to it than even I could have imagined. What prison and that much time apart can do to a person alone, not to mention an entire family, especially ones children, in this case, one little girl in particular. Daddy was Kabellah’s world before he went to prison from the moment she was born. She was his last of four kids that he had, and his “last chance to be a good father.” His first kids mom did not give him the chance to even really try, unless he would be with her. And there was reasons he couldn’t be with her but she tried to use their children as leverage. And we all know how well that usually works out ha. As he tells her now, and she really honestly has no idea of the weight these words actually hold to them, but she has saved so many lives and does not even know it. She keeps him grounded. Calms his anxiety and with just the sound of her voice or the touch of her hand, brings him back down to be level headed and make the right choice. The bond, even though he has been gone for sometime, is just phenomenal to me. And I take a lot of credit for that. Had I not taken her to see him and had I not been how I was towards him and the situation when it came to her, she wouldn’t be the way she is about him and for him, and the ties may have been severed. She was very young and could have easily forgotten. But I refused to let her. I refused to ever let her feel shame for her dad being in prison, to feel abandoned because that was NEVER the case, or for her to have any negative feelings towards her dad and his situation. I could have been the total opposite and talked crap on him or put him down, refused to take her to see him or even worse told her he wasn’t her dad and found another replacement in twelve years easily. But I fought for their relationship since the day he went to prison. She is the beat to his heart and his last chance and I knew he needed her. He needed us and to know we were ok out here to be able to make it through every day mentally. And I worried every day that he wouldn’t make it home to us for any number of reasons. I worried that when he came home he might be someone totally different than the man that went in to prison and maybe we wouldn’t make it in the future. But a woman doesn’t wait almost twelve years on someone just to turn around and throw it all away like it was never anything. Needless to say, we have found the love we once shared again and are more in love with each other and with our family than we ever even were before. And this song, when he heard it the other day, meant so very much to him. His own words were, “Babe! You HAVE to listen to this song,” mind you as he comes to me in tears (which NEVER happens and I thought it was something serious that happened lol), “EVERY word he raps hits home for me!”. My husband is only ten days older than struggle. Looks a lot like him and has an almost IDENTICAL story. But I know when my husband shows emotion now it’s very serious to him. He then proceeded to open up to me even more. He said, “behind those walls you don’t cry, you don’t let others see your emotion and you have no one to talk to about love or pain or any of that stuff. It shows weakness. So you bottle it all up and hold it in.” And I came close to him and hugged him and he said, “Sometimes babe…..I don’t know how I made it through that?”. And I responded, “time to leave all that behind my love, and it’s ok you can cry all you want if you need to, but you’re gonna make me cry a$$h0l3, but I love you and you made it…..WE made it!” And he just hugged me so tight and cried it out. It was an amazingly emotional release that he had been needing and I was happy to be there and be a part of it. If it wasn’t for your song this moment may have never happened so I just wanted to share this and to say “THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART” for all your meaningful words and lyrics. For some people like us it’s not just a song, it’s real life experience and real life emotions. We have lived exactly what you are portraying for others and we can FEEL your songs. So keep up the good work and to me your future looks amazing. Never forget where you came from and always look forward and know where you are going or want to be. Dreams do come true and love does conquer all!!

Struggle, my man has been in for 4 yrs. He went in right after his 21st birthday. He signed 10 @ 20% and his dumbass co-defendant took 20 @ 20% and they made him take it. Well, scared him into it because he didn't know shit about the law. 20 yrs for 2 Class C charges. Smh. He just went to the board in November and got an 18 month flop. We're gonna try to fight this cause he would have gone to the board in 2014. Imma ride this bid with him regardless. He's my everything. Thank you for writing this song. I have supported Struggle since way back when... you have to live this type of life to even begin to understand what it means to LIVE THIS LIFE.. I've been at the low and I'm on my way back up... once again, no this isn't my first fall but I'm hoping it will be my last.. I'm a recovering drug addict and the lyrics that Struggle/Will raps/sings I can relate to so deeply... I've lost so many friends and family to the streets or prison... my other half is locked down as we speak , got 2 more years to go... I was looking at a 20 do 10 myself so you see like I said you have to live this life to understand the lyrics Will writes nd and raps... so whoever dislikes his music and everybody won't like it but its ok because they just don't understand it and I hope they never do because then they would have lived this life tgat I don't wish on my worst enemy...
