Do Fingerboarders Really Need Foam Grip Tape?

- This week it's finally time to find out which fingerboard grip tape is better, foam or regular! Subscribe for a new fingerboarding video every Wednesday! I used 2 different Tech Decks for this video.

my personal opinion, tell me if this makes sense. I love both grips, they are both fun to use and give off a nice feeling. i would use sandpaper more if it lasted as long, but the foam grip lasts longer, and has a little more grip allowing me to ollie higher.

Just putting foam grip on a regular tech deck makes it at least 2x as good
Ong it deff makes tech deck deck better with the foam my ollies has also gotten better

Yeah there's a ton of brands out there that have that. DKL, braille, Onsra, ignite, etc..

was actually a lot of boards in the 80s that did foam grip
foam grip is pretty key. but! you don’t need foam grip because you got skills!
My first wooden fingerboard was the first generation Close Up fingerboard from 2009. It didn’t have foam grip but it was definitely superior to all the tech decks everybody had in elementary school

I started fingerboarding when i was a baby, when i started to actually fingerboard i was using a 26mm techdeck with no grip so kids now have it easier

Wow those tricks I've just started yesterday found an ancient blind yellow graphic with sandpaper grip getting a new one for Christmas mine is so thin and the grip is wearing can't wait to test the difference between the new and old boards. I can Ollie stationary but rolling Ollie is hard I think I'm hitting the tail too hard I seem to be doing impossibles I can't get my front finger to lift the board but hopefully day 2 will improve your tricks are flawless wow it's like actual skating it's gonna take me ages to Ollie but I'll keep trying
You should record more videos and make a tab bit longer but other then that there great videos. I just got into fnigerboarding my self

I just ordered my first wooden finger board but been on the teck deck since I was 6-7 maybe younger and I’m now 20
Ive noticed that your trucks on the tech deck leans. Mine seems to not want to lean. Is that something you did or is different than mines?

coming from a not so advanced fingerboarder...much easier on foam.
i can ollie, slide and do most kick flip i land...but with a teck deck i can barely ollie and it feel lacking control bad.
BTW there is lifehack for darkslides, put foam grip cut it from the middle part and put tech deck grip in the middle
Yesterday I realized I've started saying "appreciate that" all the time now 😅
I just use regular skate grip tape and it gives the same grip as the non-foam but dosent wear down

Was about to jump on that title so quick "ofc, is that even a question!?" Then looked over at my setups with duckytape and gecko grip soooo.. maybe not necessarily but still better then sandpaper grip

Foam grip is more grippy, soft while sandpaper is rough and can also be grippy also Foam grip is rubbery.

I like doing darkslides so the regular grip tape is for me and plus no a real board any grip that's not og in my opinion is for noobs

Wdym foam vs regular? Foam is the regular for fingerboards, and the only time you will see sandpaper grip is on a musty crusty tech deck!
That kickflip was perfect and as close to actual skating as it gets YOUR HAND DIDNT GO SUPER HIGH COMPARED TO THE BOARD THATS THE SIGN OF A PERFECT TECH DECK FLIP

Foam grip tape honestly sucks, I literally lost my ability to do any tricks after I got a performance series tech deck and my arm would just freeze up every time. Switched back to a normal tech deck and I was immediately able to do everything again. So basically performance series boards are a scam

@sittingduck422 ducky tape is my personal preference. Not only is the grip INTENSE, long lasting amd easy to clean, its transparent which makes customizing the top of the board with stickers or markers completely unique to any user. My current setup has the @blackriverrampsoffical "uncommon pleasure" sticker under the grip. Opens up the world of creativity
