People are forgetting...Napstablook has it ultimately the worst. His cousin, his only pride, his literal idol, was killed. Napstablook is already depressed, but a loss of his idol family member, has broken him. The worst part is that he Can’t even die. He’s a ghost, it’s impossible for him to do neck-rope, etc etc. I mean yeah, he probably reduced his HP to 0, but ghosts don’t die. He’s stuck with that grief, that knowledge that his cousin, idol, someone he adores very much, was shattered by your hands. Genocide is bad, but Neutral can truly be a sadist run.

Like yeah Genocide route IS bad, just for the word make it sound horrible as it is. But I guess the neutral endings affect me more because you were keeping people alive in the most part, you were keeping alive the persons you liked. And seeing how the people you loved being affected by the people you ACTUALLY killed it's sad. In Genocide you were prepared to kill people you love (since this route mostly goes after the true pacifist) In neutral you have to see how persons you didn't mean to kill, die emotionally like this neutral ending I think the worst neutral endings are this, the one were you kill all the "bosses" and personally every route involving killing papyrus lmao

"Can you please bring her friends? If you made them disappear?" Papyrus is asking for a *reset.* He isn't 100% sure of what you did, but he knows you *CAN* bring EVERYONE back. He knows you have the power to do it. Before the genocide, after meeting Papyrus, if you *"reset"*, he'll still remember you, like Sans.
Technically speaking he DOES remember you, he asks Sans "don't I know that human?" The others it's just "oddly whenever a child falls down I feel like I know them" Toriel actually figures it out after you start a genocide route, kill her and reset
What if Papyrus has the same powers as Sans, Gaster Blasters, glowing eyes (and he already has that human eye thing he does) and the power to remember, but instead of being lazy like Sans, he works hard, instead of punishing you like Sans in genocide, Papyrus gives you a second chance. Perhaps he pretends to be stupid to hide depression like how Sans uses jokes to hide his. I also like to think he knows his food tastes bad, but likes how his friends pretend it tastes good so they can make him happy. But not wanting to reveal his secrets to anyone he just goes “Please bring them back” instead of something of the likes of “Reset and spare them”, but this is just my theory.

Ugggh, I am so sick of people saying Sans remembers timelines. He doesn't remember them, he just knows they exist. His entire fucking speech in the Genocide route is all about how he can't bring himself to care about anything because he knows he'll just wake up without any memory of it.

It is quite easy to imagine what Frisk killed Mettaton, because this robot clearly tried to kill him, and it’s impossible to spare him or flee (increasing ratings? Very unclear). And this fight happened mainly because of Alphys’ manipulations. As for the Royal Guard... why doesn’t she blame Toriel for that?

As for Undyne's house, Frisk (I'm saying Frisk but I'm referring to the player since the player controls their actions) can actually be the one to burn down the house by increasing the heat too much even before Undyne cheers on them to do so. And in any ways, think of it like that: if Frisk never went to Undyne's house, the events following that would never have occurred and her house wouldn't have ended up burned down. If Frisk didn't kill Mettaton (which is possible, and you're actually the only person that told me they didn't know how, but I don't blame you it's fine lol) then Alphys wouldn't have "disappeared", and if they hadn't killed Asgore the Royal Guard wouldn't be dismembered (although admittedly you'd can't get Asgore to leave in a neutral route, but the morally right choice would be not not fight him and either give up your soul or stay with monsters.) However, since the Player is the one controlling Frisk, we shouldn't rather say it's whoever's playing the game's fault. Much like it's the Player who kills in genocide and not Chara.

You see, Papyrus mentions Undyne house burning even if Frisk never was there. Alphys had some thoughts about suicide even before Frisk appearance (remember how Undyne meet her first?). Actually the morally right choice in neutral route seems obvious. Protagonist can cross the barrier by consuming SOUL of one of the monsters who truly wanted to kill him (like some of the Royal Guards or CORE mercenaries). And well, again, it was Toriel who disbanded the Royal Guard. It could’ve happened even without Frisk, if Toriel decided to simply overthrow Asgore.
No matter what neutral ending you get, Toby just had to try to make you feel bad. The only ending Toby doesn't try to make you feel bad is True Pacifist, where people cry anyway.

You know, a lot of people say that Papyrus is too naive and innocent to understand what happened. However, the stuff he says about "bringing them back" is perfectly within your powers. You "bring her friends back" by resetting. He actually says stuff like that in most of the routes where you kill Mettaton and/or Undyne. It kind of makes me wonder how much he knows about timelines.
This is exactly what I think. Him being "naive". I feel like there is more to that story. For example, in the genocide route. He SPARES you. He refuses to fight. He tries to teach you a lesson by not "doing a violence". Some people say that's foolish, but he KNEW he just put himself in trouble to try and be your friend. Even when you don't kill him he told you how scared he was that it would've ended another way. Also, when he says "You could do a little better", most people who play that route are just curious what happens. I see most people play that route, they felt awful for killing him. Maybe he does know about timelines. He probably won't tell sans about it, because he might know that Sans is trying to protect him. If he knew, who knows what would happen?
I honestly wouldn't go so far as to say he knows about timelines. However, I can't help but get the feeling he knows that certain characters are just flat-out dead, considering how distressed he sounds, but... he talks around it in his weird Papyrus sort of way. People act like Pap is a borderline invalid, but I think he's got a perfectly fine grasp on reality and current events, based on a lot of what he says. He just... doesn't seem to like directly addressing the tragic things. Like he's just not comfortable with it.
I think she most likely becomes a hermit on the true lab that hates everyone and has no real contact with anyone,i know in other routes she commits kil but im pretty sure she is just depressed in the lab doing experiments and shit
I really wanted to kill Mettaton but I'm glad I didn't now. Alphys killed herself, Undyne is depressed, Nabstablook is probably even more depressed, and Papyrus is too innocent to understand that it makes me depressed.
This game is a social experiment, basically. You kill just ONE person, and Undertale makes you pay for it. It’s a test of sorts. The only ending that is ok is True Pacifist, and even then, Asriel exploits you and your pacifist behavior for his own good. Thank god for Toby.

There is one good ending, where everyone is happy but you don't do pacifist, its where you spare all main characters befriend Alphys, Undyne, and Papyrus, but not do True Pacifist (as in you kill like a single monster)
Undyne: 1. Lost her job. 2. Lost her house. 3. Living on the couch of Papyrus. 4. Sells hot dogs 5. Depressed over the death of Alphys Papyrus: 1.Did not become a member of the royal guard. Why is everyone saying: "Poor Papyrus..", "NOOOOOO PAPY..." etc?
Because he's so innocent and naive. It's like trying to deal with Huge's daughter as she sees his coffin being buried. If you haven't seen that scene from Full Metal alchemist, watch the show it's pretty good. If you're not interested then just search up ''Huge's burial'' Or something down those lines, the scene of an optimistically naive child witnessing death for the first time is heart braking.
papyrus is distressed over the fact his friend suddenly has become upset and he doesnt know what to do. theyre both suffering, and both of them deserve equal sympathy. however, the fact people feel bad for papyrus because hes "innocent" and "naive" (which is false because he isnt any of those) is wrong. they should feel bad for him because he feels useless to help undyne, not because hes "innocent".
This ending is worst then undynes other extreme of her seeking revenge. At least in the queen undyne ending she has a goal and purpose to hunt you down, she still has that fire that made her into the true heroine. In this ending you've broken her. You've stripped her of her pride as a warrior, her trust in you, her home, her identity, her role model and almost all her friends and her lover. You've even taken everything that gave her life meaning and even her passion and snuffed it without giving her any reason or closure as to why you did this. The worst is she got to know you so she cant just call you evil anymore. Id say she's probably as apathetic as sans now since not even seeking revenge will motivate her anymore and from the way paps is acting i would say that she may even be thinking of suicide. This ending is also terrible since not only is she in so much pain but so is sans and paps to watch her suffer like this. This is kind of shocking to me since i never imagine mettaton could have such a far reaching consequence for killing him or even that his death would effect so many people unrelated to him. I guess what they say is true that the life of one person is connected to billions of others lives.

Undyne is the one who brought herself back from the brink of death just to kill you in the Genocide run, so hearing “Revenge won’t bring anyone back” from her is really heavy.
2:47 Jesus Christ. This might be THE most powerful line I’ve ever seen in Undertale. Undyne is everyone’s hero, full of energy, determined to do what’s right- In her eyes, at least. In any other neutral route, she becomes empress and has her goal set to destroy you. But here, she lost the one person who mattered most to her, and all because of you, the one for whom she had to go over herself to make friends with, and who then betrayed her trust by killing someone. She failed to protect everyone, the motto of her entire life, because she put her faith into you. The result is her being broken and losing herself, and recognizing that mindless revenge really won’t make things better. Here, Undyne failed at being the true hero, and she is convinced it is her fault and is wallowing in sorrow for it. Toby Fox made the characters of the Neutral Route psychologically realistic to the point that it’s terrifying. Killing everyone makes you a murderer. Leaving some alive to pick up the pieces makes you a monster.
Yeah. It really is sad. I don’t know how to explain my feelings about this in a way that makes sense at doesn’t sound like a bunch on nonsense why am I so bad at actually explaining things why… but it really is sad. It made me want to cry.
To me the saddest part is that seemingly the only people who remember Mettaton just killed themselves. No one actually noticed he's gone, it seems. Not even Papyrus. Yet he had such an influence.
Well they live on... They have been without a celebrity before. Mettaton was Alphys' only true friend who knew everything. Losing him Proband shattered her world as deep down, they care a lot for eachother.
Mary Rosebush I wouldn't know people like that to be honest. Maybe MTT is known to be such a prankster that they don't think much of it. It would also kinda depend on when he was killed. Without the high amount of viewers at one time, they might not have realized what he meant to them. The program may just be on stand by all the time, and people may not yet have realized he's gone by the time you get the calls. I guess it may be more about keeping up appearances. I remember a Gmod video creator with the name Kitty0706 having cancer, and it being really confusing when he died. When someone is at such a distance, and doesn't have a big team behind him, confirming someone's death may be a hard thing to do. Not to mention how Alphys was implied to have killed herself, sorta. She would be the only one who would pass on the news. That's the sad part of being your own creative master. No one to go to in case it's the end. No one to help you. I have a bit of strange feelings about Alphys in this though. She disappeared, but are we sure it's suicide? I could see her do that, but I would like to know if there was more said about it.
Everyone: Papyrus is so innocent, he thinks we can bring them back :C *_OR_* Papyrus, just like Sans knows how you can reset timelines at your will. He knows your sins, he remembers, but he puts on a sweet, innocent face as if he knows nothing about the timelines until the day comes where you kill Mettaton and ruin his friends, his mentor and his king. Also poor Undyne! Not enough people are talking about her right now, poor fish!

So... Alphys went into depression after seeing Mettaton Destroyed, and sheltered herself from everyone which got Undyne sad, and now Papyrus is sad for Undyne to, Damn. And Sans doesn't give a shit
i just love that undertale works this way where every character has a web of connections so that a single character death has a ripple effect. imo one of this games best features is how connected everything is. even characters like flowey and papyrus or alphys and sans who we never actually see have a real interaction are hinted to have relationships of some kind. i love it so much
mettaton is a good friend of alphys, its clear that she loves him so much, and is willing to not even finish his body to keep him there. mettaton also loves her a lot, and is willing to lie and pretend to be a villing JUST to make her happy. they have a close friendship, like papyrus and undyne. killing mettaton, probably the only person she even feels who loves her, damages her. she feels useless and goes through it. mettaton also becomes depressed in his endings,since he cant find alphys. their friendship is so important.
This is what is known as the Betrayed Undyne Ending. To get this ending, you either: A) Don't befriend Undyne in a Neutral Run B) Kill someone after befriending Undyne Or C) Kill Mettaton
nope. if you kill mettaton it's different also on an unrelated note, if you kill more than 10 monsters after befriending undyne you just get an exiled queen ending
This in my opinion is problaby the worst ending possible. Just by killing Mettaton you cause so much harm to Alphys, Undyne, a n d Papyrus, mostly Undyne and it hurts to see someone so tough descend to depression that easily.
Ironically im pretty sure she would regain her fire tenfold the moment another murderer comes down there, Papyrus being her last friend since Sans is just that one weird lazy friend yoy dont spend to much time with because its awkward would just make her so overprotective

Well when Undyne says Alphys is gone, she's not gone on a holiday, that's for damn sure. Alphys is very suicidal, exploring the true lab will reveal it. She's broken and Undyne and Mettaton are her two escapes from that deep depression. Mettaton is a dear friend to Alphys, who she is afraid of losing, as evident by her not wanting to finish his true body for fear of him leaving. Destroying Mettaton breaks her more than it would seem, because Mettaton is (at least heavily implied) a corporeal ghost, and Alphys is incapable of dealing with grief on top of all of her guilt.
replying to an old thread, but i think it may just be a coding thing?? if i recall, some of the other endings mention you killing 'someone' when u kill a boss monster, without being specific as to who. this one just reads really weird, because it's vague about who dies, but talks about the specific consequences.

Bruh, for you to break Undyne's fighting spirit with this ending, holy hell. She gets overthrow the queen angry when you take Papyrus/Asgore away from her, but DAMN is she broken when she loses Alphys.
To me this is like the straw that broke the camel's back. She was already suffering overwhelming guilt and depression thanks to the amalgamates and lost all her self-esteem in a futile attempt to cope with her sins, and this ghost comes along wanting the perfect body. She could give it to him. Yet even then, when she's only trying to help (just like she was with the monsters in the True Lab), Mettaton ends up dying just because of her actions. It was too much for her to handle and she ended it. This game ruins me.
joe jeffrey it's because alphys has enough mental guilt in his mind with the amalgamates. One single blow like killing undyne or metatton is enough to break her sanity. Well, unless is an abort genocide in wich case she becomes Queen but.. that is not a happy ending.
yep when MTT can't be fixed Alphys gets depressed and kills herself. And that's why Undyne hates you and says she couldn't protect her. Undyne met Alphys when she was in a suicidal state (True Lab) and if Alphys never met Undyne she would have killed herself. So it's only logical that Undyne hates you after she kills herself

I feel so BAD FOR Napstablook! He is already depressed... and finding out his literal cousin, idol, the one person who has believed in him from the beginning was killed... broke him on the inside. He lost someone near and dear to him and knowing that Mettaton was shattered by you... who he thought was kind. Living with that kind of guilt forever must hurt so badly and he couldn't do anything about it. He looked up to Mettaton and adored him for something he could never have... confidence. Blooky has very low-self esteem, Mettaton was there to help him without Metta, Blooky would die again on the inside. Mettaton has such a huge inpact on Napstablooks' life and the worst part is... Blooky, no matter how much he wants to see him... he never can. He's a ghost which means he can't died, no matter how much he wants to. He would kill to see Mettaton again, but sadly he can't see him again. Mettaton has such a huge inpact on so many especially Blooky's and Alphys's life.

Papyrus knows how to stay positive and stay a cinnamon roll even in the darkest moments. That's whats so great about him. I wish I had a friend like him.
It's almost as if Papyrus understands that the human CAN actually bring back people and rewrite history. Pap seems naive and innocent, but that's just his demeanor, he actually understands and reads circumstances perfectly well, even if the story might make it look different but through every single interaction with him, especially those related on a pacifist run, and even genocide in some parts, he knows what's up, and he is kind despite of it. there's not a single bit of spite in him because he knows you can do better. He doesn't just BELIEVE it, he knows you CAN and he hopes/believes you will.
I think Alphys committed suicide. Mettaton was the only thing that she made who was going well. You destroyed it, so... Her whole life after what you did would have been a failure. So, no reason to be alive anymore.
Funny enough, the only neutral endings where it's at least implied that Alphys is still alive are the three flawed pacifist ones, and abandoned genocide where she takes position as the ruler.
+AAA Battery i doubt even alphys survives that long in the ending where she is queen. i mean, shes depressed and the other guy shes left with is also depressed. it sounds like it would go down hill really quickly.
ace But Undyne's dying words engthened Alphys' overall resolve. She only killed herself because of her secrets. Since they were revealed, she was regarded as a hero. I honestly doubt that someone would kill themselves after gaining so much praise and self worth.

This is honestly so depressing. If Mettaton’s death isn’t sad enough, I can only imagine how Alphys feels. It’s true that she manipulated Frisk, and I’m not justifying that. I can’t just can’t help but feel empathetic. Alphys hated herself, and felt that she needed to lie about everything just to make herself likable. But that same scheme she set up lead to her friend’s death. To be fair, she didn’t know that Mettaton would go against her plans like that. That doesn’t take away the horrid guilt she must have felt though. If she hated herself before this, she despised herself after. She couldn’t handle the guilt of the amalgamations and Mettaton’s death. So she ended up taking her own life. Alphys is such a tragic character. She did a lot of bad things, but she’s far from irredeemable. All she needs is to learn is that her friends love and respect the TRUE her, and it motivates her to change and become a better person. That makes this ending so much more tragic. She could have been helped, but it’s too late now.
I notice how when Papyrus is the only one you kill, everyone rebels against the queen because of their hatred of humans. But, when their favorite celebrity dies, everyone still follows the queen's decision to treat humans as friends with only a few exceptions Plus, I think it's a really sad thing to think about. When you think about it, Mettaton was the only one Alphys could call a success. She felt so guilty about the amalgamations and her failure to find a way to break the barrier, but Mettaton was the one thing she made that made people happy and even she couldn't really deny that. Maybe that's why she 'vanished' for that ending
This is one of the saddest neutral endings, just after the one where Papyrus becomes king and thinks his friends went on vacation, and just wants Undyne to send a postcard. It makes me so sad to see him miss his friends, not knowing that they're all dead

Since a few weeks ago, Mettaton became my *favorite* Undertale character. I really *don't know why,* I just really love him, I am playing a neutral route now and *it's the first time I'm playing.* I'm *not killing any main characters* except for Undyne, because I tought *"I will kill ONE main character to make it a little bit more interesting"* (I'm stuck in her battle, send help ;-;) But this is not the point. The point is I don't want to do genocide yet, because I really don't want to kill Mettaton. Don't you remember his battle? The calls. Especially Blooky's call. That made me thinking that... yes, maybe *we need someone to admire.* *The underground it's not the same without their idol.* Killing Mettaton made *Alphys commit suicide* and that affected Undyne, who is depressed because she lost the person (the monster) she loved. But almost no one is talking about *Napstablook.* Losing his cousin, someone who made him a little bit happier with his TV show... probably made him even more depressed. Oh god... Undyne is one of my favorite characters (next to sans and papyrus) and I can't believe what's happened to her. It's like this is the only ending that broke her spirit...
"Somebody Disappeared" Was first mentioned in the call. Due to the fact that you ONLY killed Mettaton, This must be him. "Alphys Disappeared" Because you killed Mettaton, Alphys's Pride and Sucess, Its likely that she ran away or committed suicide. Since Undyne loved Alphys, This would explain why she hates you.

I did the absolute opposite of this when I started playing. I spared mettaton but killed the others. It was only sans talking how mettaton took over the underground with his tv show

It's funny how Mett's death doesn't have any more consequences than Alphys death. I mean, they don't even state anything about him, they talk about Alphys... that's sad man.

People are forgetting...Napstablook has it ultimately the worst. His cousin, his only pride, his literal idol, was killed. Napstablook is already depressed, but a loss of his idol family member, has broken him. The worst part is that he Can’t even die. He’s a ghost, it’s impossible for him to do neck-rope, etc etc. I mean yeah, he probably reduced his HP to 0, but ghosts don’t die. He’s stuck with that grief, that knowledge that his cousin, idol, someone he adores very much, was shattered by your hands.
Genocide is bad, but Neutral can truly be a sadist run.
Genocide is infinitely worse than every Neutral run, this is a major stretch.

Like yeah Genocide route IS bad, just for the word make it sound horrible as it is. But I guess the neutral endings affect me more because you were keeping people alive in the most part, you were keeping alive the persons you liked. And seeing how the people you loved being affected by the people you ACTUALLY killed it's sad.
In Genocide you were prepared to kill people you love (since this route mostly goes after the true pacifist)
In neutral you have to see how persons you didn't mean to kill, die emotionally like this neutral ending

He knows you have the power to do it. Before the genocide, after meeting Papyrus, if you *"reset"*, he'll still remember you, like Sans.

What if Papyrus has the same powers as Sans, Gaster Blasters, glowing eyes (and he already has that human eye thing he does) and the power to remember, but instead of being lazy like Sans, he works hard, instead of punishing you like Sans in genocide, Papyrus gives you a second chance. Perhaps he pretends to be stupid to hide depression like how Sans uses jokes to hide his. I also like to think he knows his food tastes bad, but likes how his friends pretend it tastes good so they can make him happy. But not wanting to reveal his secrets to anyone he just goes “Please bring them back” instead of something of the likes of “Reset and spare them”, but this is just my theory.

As for Undyne's house, Frisk (I'm saying Frisk but I'm referring to the player since the player controls their actions) can actually be the one to burn down the house by increasing the heat too much even before Undyne cheers on them to do so. And in any ways, think of it like that: if Frisk never went to Undyne's house, the events following that would never have occurred and her house wouldn't have ended up burned down. If Frisk didn't kill Mettaton (which is possible, and you're actually the only person that told me they didn't know how, but I don't blame you it's fine lol) then Alphys wouldn't have "disappeared", and if they hadn't killed Asgore the Royal Guard wouldn't be dismembered (although admittedly you'd can't get Asgore to leave in a neutral route, but the morally right choice would be not not fight him and either give up your soul or stay with monsters.) However, since the Player is the one controlling Frisk, we shouldn't rather say it's whoever's playing the game's fault. Much like it's the Player who kills in genocide and not Chara.

You see, Papyrus mentions Undyne house burning even if Frisk never was there. Alphys had some thoughts about suicide even before Frisk appearance (remember how Undyne meet her first?).
Actually the morally right choice in neutral route seems obvious. Protagonist can cross the barrier by consuming SOUL of one of the monsters who truly wanted to kill him (like some of the Royal Guards or CORE mercenaries). And well, again, it was Toriel who disbanded the Royal Guard. It could’ve happened even without Frisk, if Toriel decided to simply overthrow Asgore.

You know, a lot of people say that Papyrus is too naive and innocent to understand what happened. However, the stuff he says about "bringing them back" is perfectly within your powers. You "bring her friends back" by resetting. He actually says stuff like that in most of the routes where you kill Mettaton and/or Undyne. It kind of makes me wonder how much he knows about timelines.

This is exactly what I think. Him being "naive". I feel like there is more to that story. For example, in the genocide route. He SPARES you. He refuses to fight. He tries to teach you a lesson by not "doing a violence". Some people say that's foolish, but he KNEW he just put himself in trouble to try and be your friend. Even when you don't kill him he told you how scared he was that it would've ended another way. Also, when he says "You could do a little better", most people who play that route are just curious what happens. I see most people play that route, they felt awful for killing him. Maybe he does know about timelines. He probably won't tell sans about it, because he might know that Sans is trying to protect him. If he knew, who knows what would happen?
I honestly wouldn't go so far as to say he knows about timelines. However, I can't help but get the feeling he knows that certain characters are just flat-out dead, considering how distressed he sounds, but... he talks around it in his weird Papyrus sort of way.
People act like Pap is a borderline invalid, but I think he's got a perfectly fine grasp on reality and current events, based on a lot of what he says. He just... doesn't seem to like directly addressing the tragic things. Like he's just not comfortable with it.
He even sweats wherever he says something like "Could you bring them back?"

This game is a social experiment, basically. You kill just ONE person, and Undertale makes you pay for it. It’s a test of sorts. The only ending that is ok is True Pacifist, and even then, Asriel exploits you and your pacifist behavior for his own good. Thank god for Toby.

papyrus is distressed over the fact his friend suddenly has become upset and he doesnt know what to do. theyre both suffering, and both of them deserve equal sympathy. however, the fact people feel bad for papyrus because hes "innocent" and "naive" (which is false because he isnt any of those) is wrong. they should feel bad for him because he feels useless to help undyne, not because hes "innocent".
This ending is worst then undynes other extreme of her seeking revenge. At least in the queen undyne ending she has a goal and purpose to hunt you down, she still has that fire that made her into the true heroine. In this ending you've broken her. You've stripped her of her pride as a warrior, her trust in you, her home, her identity, her role model and almost all her friends and her lover. You've even taken everything that gave her life meaning and even her passion and snuffed it without giving her any reason or closure as to why you did this. The worst is she got to know you so she cant just call you evil anymore. Id say she's probably as apathetic as sans now since not even seeking revenge will motivate her anymore and from the way paps is acting i would say that she may even be thinking of suicide. This ending is also terrible since not only is she in so much pain but so is sans and paps to watch her suffer like this. This is kind of shocking to me since i never imagine mettaton could have such a far reaching consequence for killing him or even that his death would effect so many people unrelated to him. I guess what they say is true that the life of one person is connected to billions of others lives.

This might be THE most powerful line I’ve ever seen in Undertale.
Undyne is everyone’s hero, full of energy, determined to do what’s right- In her eyes, at least. In any other neutral route, she becomes empress and has her goal set to destroy you. But here, she lost the one person who mattered most to her, and all because of you, the one for whom she had to go over herself to make friends with, and who then betrayed her trust by killing someone. She failed to protect everyone, the motto of her entire life, because she put her faith into you. The result is her being broken and losing herself, and recognizing that mindless revenge really won’t make things better. Here, Undyne failed at being the true hero, and she is convinced it is her fault and is wallowing in sorrow for it.
Toby Fox made the characters of the Neutral Route psychologically realistic to the point that it’s terrifying.
Killing everyone makes you a murderer.
Leaving some alive to pick up the pieces makes you a monster.

It would also kinda depend on when he was killed. Without the high amount of viewers at one time, they might not have realized what he meant to them. The program may just be on stand by all the time, and people may not yet have realized he's gone by the time you get the calls. I guess it may be more about keeping up appearances.
I remember a Gmod video creator with the name Kitty0706 having cancer, and it being really confusing when he died. When someone is at such a distance, and doesn't have a big team behind him, confirming someone's death may be a hard thing to do. Not to mention how Alphys was implied to have killed herself, sorta. She would be the only one who would pass on the news. That's the sad part of being your own creative master. No one to go to in case it's the end. No one to help you.

i just love that undertale works this way where every character has a web of connections so that a single character death has a ripple effect. imo one of this games best features is how connected everything is. even characters like flowey and papyrus or alphys and sans who we never actually see have a real interaction are hinted to have relationships of some kind. i love it so much

mettaton is a good friend of alphys, its clear that she loves him so much, and is willing to not even finish his body to keep him there. mettaton also loves her a lot, and is willing to lie and pretend to be a villing JUST to make her happy. they have a close friendship, like papyrus and undyne. killing mettaton, probably the only person she even feels who loves her, damages her. she feels useless and goes through it. mettaton also becomes depressed in his endings,since he cant find alphys. their friendship is so important.

This in my opinion is problaby the worst ending possible. Just by killing Mettaton you cause so much harm to Alphys, Undyne, a n d Papyrus, mostly Undyne and it hurts to see someone so tough descend to depression that easily.
Ironically im pretty sure she would regain her fire tenfold the moment another murderer comes down there, Papyrus being her last friend since Sans is just that one weird lazy friend yoy dont spend to much time with because its awkward would just make her so overprotective

Alphys did, there's a whole theory that she kills herself which is backed up by a shit ton of heavy implications
Well when Undyne says Alphys is gone, she's not gone on a holiday, that's for damn sure. Alphys is very suicidal, exploring the true lab will reveal it. She's broken and Undyne and Mettaton are her two escapes from that deep depression. Mettaton is a dear friend to Alphys, who she is afraid of losing, as evident by her not wanting to finish his true body for fear of him leaving. Destroying Mettaton breaks her more than it would seem, because Mettaton is (at least heavily implied) a corporeal ghost, and Alphys is incapable of dealing with grief on top of all of her guilt.
replying to an old thread, but i think it may just be a coding thing?? if i recall, some of the other endings mention you killing 'someone' when u kill a boss monster, without being specific as to who. this one just reads really weird, because it's vague about who dies, but talks about the specific consequences.
I guess papyrus couldve said "mettaton disappeared" or something along those lines. I think it was just an oversight.

To me this is like the straw that broke the camel's back. She was already suffering overwhelming guilt and depression thanks to the amalgamates and lost all her self-esteem in a futile attempt to cope with her sins, and this ghost comes along wanting the perfect body. She could give it to him. Yet even then, when she's only trying to help (just like she was with the monsters in the True Lab), Mettaton ends up dying just because of her actions. It was too much for her to handle and she ended it.
This game ruins me.

yep when MTT can't be fixed Alphys gets depressed and kills herself. And that's why Undyne hates you and says she couldn't protect her. Undyne met Alphys when she was in a suicidal state (True Lab) and if Alphys never met Undyne she would have killed herself. So it's only logical that Undyne hates you after she kills herself

I feel so BAD FOR Napstablook! He is already depressed... and finding out his literal cousin, idol, the one person who has believed in him from the beginning was killed... broke him on the inside. He lost someone near and dear to him and knowing that Mettaton was shattered by you... who he thought was kind. Living with that kind of guilt forever must hurt so badly and he couldn't do anything about it. He looked up to Mettaton and adored him for something he could never have... confidence. Blooky has very low-self esteem, Mettaton was there to help him without Metta, Blooky would die again on the inside. Mettaton has such a huge inpact on Napstablooks' life and the worst part is... Blooky, no matter how much he wants to see him... he never can. He's a ghost which means he can't died, no matter how much he wants to. He would kill to see Mettaton again, but sadly he can't see him again.

It's almost as if Papyrus understands that the human CAN actually bring back people and rewrite history. Pap seems naive and innocent, but that's just his demeanor, he actually understands and reads circumstances perfectly well, even if the story might make it look different but through every single interaction with him, especially those related on a pacifist run, and even genocide in some parts, he knows what's up, and he is kind despite of it. there's not a single bit of spite in him because he knows you can do better. He doesn't just BELIEVE it, he knows you CAN and he hopes/believes you will.

This is honestly so depressing. If Mettaton’s death isn’t sad enough, I can only imagine how Alphys feels. It’s true that she manipulated Frisk, and I’m not justifying that. I can’t just can’t help but feel empathetic. Alphys hated herself, and felt that she needed to lie about everything just to make herself likable. But that same scheme she set up lead to her friend’s death. To be fair, she didn’t know that Mettaton would go against her plans like that. That doesn’t take away the horrid guilt she must have felt though. If she hated herself before this, she despised herself after. She couldn’t handle the guilt of the amalgamations and Mettaton’s death. So she ended up taking her own life. Alphys is such a tragic character. She did a lot of bad things, but she’s far from irredeemable. All she needs is to learn is that her friends love and respect the TRUE her, and it motivates her to change and become a better person. That makes this ending so much more tragic. She could have been helped, but it’s too late now.

I notice how when Papyrus is the only one you kill, everyone rebels against the queen because of their hatred of humans.
But, when their favorite celebrity dies, everyone still follows the queen's decision to treat humans as friends with only a few exceptions
Plus, I think it's a really sad thing to think about. When you think about it, Mettaton was the only one Alphys could call a success. She felt so guilty about the amalgamations and her failure to find a way to break the barrier, but Mettaton was the one thing she made that made people happy and even she couldn't really deny that. Maybe that's why she 'vanished' for that ending
This is one of the saddest neutral endings, just after the one where Papyrus becomes king and thinks his friends went on vacation, and just wants Undyne to send a postcard. It makes me so sad to see him miss his friends, not knowing that they're all dead

Since a few weeks ago, Mettaton became my *favorite* Undertale character. I really *don't know why,* I just really love him, I am playing a neutral route now and *it's the first time I'm playing.* I'm *not killing any main characters* except for Undyne, because I tought *"I will kill ONE main character to make it a little bit more interesting"* (I'm stuck in her battle, send help ;-;)
But this is not the point. The point is I don't want to do genocide yet, because I really don't want to kill Mettaton. Don't you remember his battle? The calls. Especially Blooky's call. That made me thinking that... yes, maybe *we need someone to admire.* *The underground it's not the same without their idol.*
Killing Mettaton made *Alphys commit suicide* and that affected Undyne, who is depressed because she lost the person (the monster) she loved. But almost no one is talking about *Napstablook.* Losing his cousin, someone who made him a little bit happier with his TV show... probably made him even more depressed. And Blooky is one of my favorite characters too, so I feel so bad for him... oh god, I'm *never* going to kill Mettaton.
