    I'd like to add is that tomato plants should be watered in with a high phosphorous fertilizer solution once planted (ex. N-P-K = 15-30-15). This will stimulate root growth and help the plant anchor itself firmly into the ground to ensure robust growth into the future. Although the granular fertilizer should work, it is slow release and takes a while to 'kick in', so this initial boost is likely required. Thanks for watching growers, and happy tomato growing!!! 😀🌱🍅

    Hi Lucas, thanks for getting back to the basics. The tomato plants available are limited in both type and amount. It takes work and attention to start plants from seed, but well worth it to grow what you like or would like to try. Looking forward to growing our gardens with you this summer! 🐝

      You're welcome Tricia! Yes, growing from seed is something that can be very rewarding! I've been wanting to do this video for a long time, and, although it's not perfect, I hope both new and experience veggie growers alike find it useful. Good to have you along on the growing journey this season. Fingers crossed it's gonna be a great one for both of us!!! 🍅

    Subbed! One of the best how to vids I've seen. Thank you so much. My issue is I dont know how to prune. Im not sure where the flowers/tomatoes grow on the plant. Its always seems like the sucker are the flowers. I wonder if I've over pruned for the air circulation.
    Again, I love your video. Will be watching again.

    Great video. Can you do variety reviews especially on the unpopular ones? I can’t find any videos on granadero on CZcams but it’s been touted as the most productive plum type and I’m intrigued

    • @lucasgrowsbestyt
      @lucasgrowsbestyt  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks Adwoa! I might do that once I have ripe fruits this season! Not sure if you noticed but I featured Granadero in this video. You can see it briefly in the 'Harvest Time' section beginning at 13:05. I personally didn't find it very productive, however I only planted one plant and due to my half acre project did not spend as much time as I should have caring for it.

    • @lucasgrowsbestyt
      @lucasgrowsbestyt  Před rokem +1

      Hi Marie! There are so many great varieties of tomatoes... what are you looking for? If you want classic red beefsteak tomatoes, I suggest Big Beef. For cherries, Supersweet 100 and Sun Gold are good ones. Typically I like hybrids vs heirlooms as they are more productive and disease resistant. As far as fertilizer goes, use something that's higher in Phosphorus and potassium.

      Hey Tiffany! I've grown Green Zebra, Cherokee Purple, and Black Krim, but would love to experiment with more heirlooms, and plan on it in the future. They're super cool and taste amazing. Since I currently have a small garden space to work with though, I'm focussing on hybrids to maximize production.
