  • On Black Friday rather than participating in the rush for more materialistic things I don't need I opted to hook up with the folks from North Georgia Overland for a quick trip from the Mountains of North Georgia up through Chattahoochee National Forest into Cherokee National Forest in Tellico Plains TN then back down into GA.

    Great point on the group size. I've been on trips with 30 vehicles and others with 7-10 and the smaller group size allows you to travel farther with a whole lot less waiting for people to get through/passed spots. Something else that helps is to put the less capable vehicles between the more capable vehicles. Then it's quicker to pull/winch them through tough spots.

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  Pƙed 5 lety

      @tenmmglock2076 Pƙed 5 lety +2

      @@SirWilliamGoes that's how i use to plan routes using the forest service mvum's, in my experience those maps are unreliable I'd get in the middle of a route only hit a locked gate that are supposed to be open per the mvum, i basically gave up on on this area for small "ovelanding" trips which is unfortunate as it's my back yard, best you can count on is driving back to a known camping spot for the night then driving back out the way you came in but I wouldn't consider that overlanding, in my personal opinion there really is no true overlanding in the Appalachians let alone the East, looks like you guys had fun though ;)

      @@SirWilliamGoes That makes sense & I appreciate the heads up. I'm sorry to hear about the young man, I can easily see how he can make such a mistake in cold weather conditions. Considering our 4Rs have the straight exhaust pipe and exhaust does enter the cabin when the rear window is down (at least when driving), I think we'd be especially prone. Do you recall if you ended up cracking a window on this trip? @2:00 you closed your last opened window here to retain heat, hence why I initially asked.. I don't. Normally what I do is just pick roads in the map to travel through and navigate based off general direction

    Yeah, it's been cold as a well digger's butt lately. Y'all boys at least know what fat lighter is. It a heap easier to identify than cutting and smelling, but that's foolproof. Turpentine. That's the fragrance of fat lighter, if y'all know what turpentine is. Now that white stuff y'all were trying to figure out water ratio? That, boys, is called Georgia Ice Cream©. Grits.

      I have a bunch of tracks but usually camp sites aren't planned so I don't have many of them marked. I'm trying to plot out some in the Appalachian Mountains as I travel through
