    In case anybody's sorting through 'New Comments,' I purchased the Citizen 0125-08W after watching this video and I absolutely love it. It's bronze is a bit darker in hue than other bronze watches I've seen (in person) and that darker color doesn't come through well in this video. That said, everything else about the watch is spot on; absolutely radiant bronze sunburst dial, zero backlash bezel, perfect bezel alignment with the chapter ring and it's a strap monster for sure. And best of all, it's running at an average of + 7 seconds a day, which is awfully close to certified chronometer tolerances. My only criticisms are 2, and they're minor: 1) the lume is nothing to write home about, just a probably LumiNova's 'light green' that glows long but dim and 2) the supplied rubber strap is incredible quality and clearly rugged as hell, but is still crazy long for my 6 3/4" wrist. That left my a little disappointed I was missing out on the quality stock strap but I didn't consider it a true flaw because this piece is getting *all* the NATO straps I can get my hands on.
    All in all, I couldn't be more pleased with this uniquely stylish *ISO rated* diver, especially at ~$275 USD.

    The citizen appears to be the best deal all the way around in my opinion… However, I already have three from the pro master line so my choice would be the Orient. I have a Orient commuter that fills the dress watch need in my collection… This one would be a definite upgrade and I like everything about it other than the 22 mm lugs. Thanks for showing us some cool JDM alternatives!

    • @Matt_Barnes
      @Matt_Barnes Před 2 lety +1

      I agree, best all around deal for what you're getting. I was a little disappointed to see the Citizen was an automatic, though. I love my Promasters (I've got 3 too!), especially the 6 month power reserve so I'm torn between the appeal of having a smooth automatic movement in a Citizen for once, or just having the utility (especially in a dive watch) that I'm so used to from Citizen.

    • @johnbuckmaster569
      @johnbuckmaster569 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Matt_Barnes I know what you mean… I have three promasters as well with the eco-drive… However I do have an automatic which I bought recently although it came out in the mid 90s… The NY0040. That meat of movement is equivalent to the NH 35 in pretty much every way… Love my autos too!

    Dave, I have been watching your channel for a while and I don’t always comment, but I’m here. I just wanted to offer my thanks to you. About a year ago, I watched you 5 affordable JDM watches video and I fell in love with the Seiko SARV. It is literally the best watch I have ever owned and I’m still loving it a year later.
    I sold most of my watches and I’m down to just wearing my SARV, my orient bambino 2 and my Casio royale. I especially love the SARv because of the Kanji date as I have been learning Japanese for about a year. Thank you again and keep up the excellent work! Dave先生どうもありがとうございます

I’ve been looking for a chronograph for a while and didn’t know this one existed. I ended up changing the belt to a black leather one instead cause the one it comes with is kinda mid. But loving it so much, the fit, the size, it being SAPPHIRE glass for a price under $300 is ridiculous! 本当にオススメ!👌

    I a mechanical watch guy at heart but there's a great deal to be said of a decent solar powered quartz. Makes perfect sense for dive watch or any watch where case integrity is important. It was Seiko that made me aware of a solar movement's excellent qualities, a day on the window sill once a month and you're sorted. Interesting video, thanks.

    Sheesh that Promaster Diver's a beauty. I'm such a sucker for Citizen's Promaster line (especially their Promaster aviators) but unfortunately I've been spoiled by their perpetual calendar and lack of need for battery replacement, let alone throwing them on an automatic winder. As much as I love that bronze patina, the automatic movement's a dealbreaker for me. I wouldn't say that about any other watchmaker than Citizen, just because it's so hard to beat the practicality of their 180-day power reserve Eco-Drive watches.

    Many of us are fascinated by the JDM offerings. It is certainly an adventure to discover those watches only available in the Japanese market and yet, are available to us through proxy sellers. Perhaps you would consider making this a regular feature each week? You could certainly create affiliate links which not only helps in the sale of JDM watches for the proxies, but generates income for you as well.

    I own a $2000 dollar Seiko watch that Im really satisfied with. Got everything I wanted, almost indestructible, solar powered, GPS synchronized, dual timezone and an internal calendar that will keep track of time and date up to the year 2100 when its internal computer will need an update according to the manual. 🙂 Looks and feels awesome and just the scratch resistance on the bracelet is really impressive, still looks brand new after 4 years of continuous usage. "Seiko Astron GPS solar, dual time"
    The calendar display and all the other dials are laid out in a very clean and refined pattern. So even $2000 is a very fair price given the quality and workmanship.
    Was hoping to buy a Grand Seiko eventually, one of the modern designs. But probably not the "Grand Seiko Kodo Constant-force Tourbillon", looks amazing, incredible engineering, but $350000 is a bit steep for my wallet. ☺

And that issue with their misaligned 24 hour bezels is still going on the new special edition navy dial. Not a big fan of that strange date register which should be a window at the 6 o'clock position. Not sure what's going on at Seiko. All the people who are long term committed must have defected for Grand Seiko.

    Be carefull regarding import customs duty tax on expensive watches. You could get a huge Fed Ex or DHL bill before they will release the watch. Regarding the run up in prices beginning about three years when you could pickup a nice used five digit Rolex Submariner for six grand which imo correlates to the stock market run up. With a decline in the 2022 market we are also seeing watch prices drop as well. If we trully hit a deeper recession in 2023 you will continue to see prices drop in the US.

    Word of caution: I recently made a purchase there. Shipping time and purchase went without any issues. However, the watch, while genuine, had some black debris stuck inside the edge of the watch dial, unsure how it got in there right out of the box. No way of removing it without having someone open the dial. Tried to reach out to the company multiple times on how they would resolve the issue, as trying to do a full refund and returning internationally would be hassle. So far after about 7 days later and multiple messages through their 'inquiry' and no customer service number, it looks like I'll just have to deal with the blemish on the watch while paying full price with international shipping. Unfortunate that they don't have a customer service number or other easier way to reach out to anyone in case issues arise. CZcamsr should've mentioned any possible issues such as these.

    Hi Dave.. I've recently picked up an Orient Mako II on special from Singapore. They were not interested in helping me with watch bands. I was wondering which company you go to for a high quality rubber band option..

    I’m visiting Fukuoka in September. Do you have any recommendation on which shops to visit there? 😊

    Hi Dave. Thanks for the cool content. I'm finally returning to Japan in April and am really hoping to pick up some vintage Seiko, Grand Seiko and King Seiko pieces. Last time I was there I had trouble finding shops that stocked these pieces, it was generally vintage or modern Swiss pieces.
    Can you please suggest where to find cool JDM pieces from the 60s and 70s?

    Am I in the minority if I don’t find the lume so important? I’ve never found it useful in my seiko, unlike the indiglo in my timex
