    One of the most asked questions I receive is where are the best places to start in watches when you have a limited budget. Despite this being a loaded question, I typically like to suggest going to for a watch that fits the description of being classified as an everyday watch. In this video, we look at two of arguably the best two for around $200.

    I recently acquired both and each are solid choices. I wear the Orient more at work because I work for a very conservative company and the Seiko doesn't quite fit that environment. • @dskim24
      @dskim24 Před rokem

      I also have both, I slightly regret getting them, though I think I'll more likely keep the Seiko. I think the biggest problem with the Seiko is the chapter ring. It might be aluminum or something, but it looks like plastic. And the markings on the chapter ring looks a little incoherent to the rest of the dial. But I like it overall and I wear it a lot! Though I prefer the cheap little SNK793 (with its worse bracelet and movement). I know it's really picky, I'm just stating my opinion. The Maestro is more comfortable and I love the green (I also got the blue Maestro with a leather strap in a really good deal and will likely sell it), but the dial just looks too big, which is just a preference. The mesh band on the Orient feels better, but it's just too loud for me in terms of appearance.

    As always, a well-prepared and well-delivered presentation. A comment about thoughtfulness of design - I don't think the Orient should be dinged (a couple of levels less than faulted :) ) for it's simpler design. I get the Seiko has a more interesting dial, a little more character. But that doesn't mean the Orient's design was with little intention, as I got the impression you meant. I think it's that way on purpose, perhaps following the "less is more" philosophy. In that respect, I think your thoughts on this may have been a little unfair to the Orient. The watch is not my cup of tea (my simplest watch is an Orient Star classic with silver hands and indices), but don't think it was done haphazardly. It serves it well, makes it more versatile, and keeps the cost down. These comments notwithstanding, an excellent video as I've come to expect and respect.

    I just received this watch from Amazon for $206 before taxes. I already own some 58 watches but I was so taken by this review when I first saw it in July in a review by Jodi with "Just One More Watch", that it hung in the back of my mind. Then I saw this review the other day and just had to find it. What a charming watch. Though I could essentially assemble something similar myself, I am so pleased I purchased it. Thanks for doing this review!

    I was also searching for an everyday watch as well and around 2 weeks ago I have pulled the trigger for the Seiko 5 SRPE67K1. The size is just great, the look so versatile. In comparison with the version from your video the SRPE67 comes with nato strap, much better for everyday usage and in addition to that the 67 version has a brushed bezel. I was thinking about the scratches but after some while I can also highlight the fact that with the matte bezel version, the dial looks more spectacular and the whole watch looks more valuable than the pure polished version.

    Great content Teddy! I think both these watches are great and offer excellent value for money. However,, I would prefer to go with the Orient Maestro due to my personal taste. I feel Seiko need to change the markings on the watch if it wants to showcase it as a dress watch. The markings on Seiko are more suitable in a sports watch. I really wish they had more models with roman numericals.

Then when a fellow youtuber like yourself, Teddy, purchased a $1000 model and the tested timing was shot, strike 2 and I will kick in the final strike 3 for free. I actually bought both of these watches. I will say that while Orient often offers greater value and/or features, the Seiko is simply a much nicer looking watch on the wrist. I am also having a problem with my Orient Maestro: it runs almost 10 minutes fast a day now. I tried demagnetizing it, but now that it's out of warranty, it would cost more than it's worth to try to fix... Because of this, I no longer consider Orient watches...

    Hey Teddy, thank you for another enlightening video. Both watches look great. I think the Orient is a better deal here. Anyway, I would like to suggest another great watch that from some reason doesn't gain much attention from watch channels on CZcams - it's the Citizen NH8350 series. These are very balanced, 40 mm everyday watches, good-looking, only 5 ATM WR and no hacking - but for ~100 USD. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a bargain mechanical watch, much more over the standard Seiko 5's (especially with the low quality 7S26).

    Personally out of these two I would go with a Seiko. I personally owned the SRPD 51, basically the exact same cycle as the one here but with the rotating bezel and it does have a lot of really good things going forward that the orient does not. You mentioned the loom, which is a perfect one in my situation. I work two jobs and sometimes with my second job I don’t get off work till about 10 o’clock at night. While I have no problem seeing the time inside my workplace, the second step outside without any loom on the watch, I wouldn’t be able to see what time it is. I also do a lot with four buffing machines at my second job, and the Seco feels like a very reliable and very rugged watch for the money. With the orient it looks like I feel like I I would break the darn thing fairly easily. I personally I want my watches to be very rugged and have a weight good enough so I can feel confident that it won’t be damaged if it had some thing. If it doesn’t have that weight, it Hass to be made out of titanium otherwise I won’t wear it to work and just leave it on my shelf or use it only for a dressier situation. If Orians could fix the problem regarding the loan, and if it turns out to be a much more durable watch and I think I might end up buying one. Heck I might buy one anyway as I might be starting another job relatively soon that doesn’t require me to get off at 10 o’clock at night

Found out lately that the quartz Tuna came out in 78 (when I was born) and I'm thinking of getting a modern street series in gren or black and gold. Those are in my price range. The OG or the modern steel case Tuna are well beyound my means.😅 Plus I really dig the green tuna with the red highlights.

    The only reason Seiko outperforms their accuracy specs is because they set those specs outrageously wide to begin with.
    The accuracy you get out of the box on a 4R or 6R movement is basically a lottery. However, no matter how accurate it is at rest, I've never had a Seiko movement that didn't gain 10-20 seconds after one day of active use (e.g. swimming, hiking, exercising - even vigorous hand shaking when drying hair).

    The new Seiko 5 logo is such a departure from the original that you can almost think there's no resemblance at all. But if you just focus on the perimeter shape of the new one, it's actually the same shape as the old shield but stretched slightly wider and unframed. Then the two angled strokes that break into it (or are carved out of it, take your pick) can be read simultaneously as either a 5 or a laid-back S for Sport. I resented the change at first because of my nostalgia for the first Seiko I ever bought, but it's a brilliantly abstract design that seems to stand only for itself, with no reference to any earthly object.
    On the other extreme is the Orient logo and it's so over-the-top trad/classy that I can't help but want an Orient in my modest collection. More importantly, Orient was once a well-known and respected brand - back in the 50s I think - and though it's now apparently owned by Seiko, it's not being smothered; on the contrary its profile is coming back up again, and I'm glad to say I have an Orient on order. I'm not as interested in dress watches as you are, Teddy, so it's nothing like the model you review here but it will be a nice one and it will scratch that itch I've had for a long while.
    I'm totally with you on straps, be they leather, silicone or nylon weave, and a big part of the pleasure of owning watches is in tilting the personality of a watch one way or the other by putting it on various different straps. I only have one rule: don't try to match the dial colour, co-ordinate or contrast instead.
