Imagine starting her next career as a bus driver at the age of 58...while most are retiring...30 years later she is finally retiring..getting up at quarter to 4 a.m. daily to drive kids to school . I am so impressed with this woman - thank you for all your years of taking care of these kids...some are now over 40 years of age. You are such an inspiration...
That’s exactly what I did. Became a bus driver at age 56, after a 35 year career in printing. Divorce keeps me working. Have to for many years to come yet.
This lady is living proof that it really is never too late to find a job that you love and that it's never too late to wake up everyday looking forward to doing your job instead of dreading the thought of it.
My mom is almost 70 with various health issues but she stays pretty active. I can’t hardly keep her at home lo but I’m glad she’s active I just always tell her not to over do it. I support her.
Mary!!!!! James and I are going to miss you dearly. Thank you for keeping my baby boy safe. You always made sure he got to the door before pulling off. I’m sure we’ll see you around especially at the grocery store. Maybe we can meet at the register and exchange coupons 😊 You will be missed as a bus driver. Enjoy sleeping in late and spending time with the family. You’ve earned it my dear. 🙏🏽🥰 🚌
She reminds me a lot of my bus driver as a kid, I’d fall asleep on the bus a lot and one day missed my bus stop. She told me to “sleep early and not stay up playing those games or watching movies” She knew me too well even though I probably denied it.😂😂 I can’t say it was the last time I’ve fallen asleep, because I remember doing it again and her having to get up and wake me up at my stop. I appreciated her a lot, she was awesome and gave us candy after the holidays.
This is supposed to be a “Feel good” story, but I won’t feel good until I know that she worked into her late 80’s because she wanted to, and not because she has a shitty retirement package and can’t survive on social security.
WOW! Inspiring, job well done, thank you and now for a much deserved retirement. She looks great and definitely causes you pause and think about your work ethic and place in society.
Congrats Mary! Bus drivers play a very special role to the children and their families. They are in charge of safely delivering the most precious cargo in the world. My bus driver was a very special woman her name was Mrs. Hanson. She ran a tight ship. From my first ride starting in kindergarten until 11th grade when I got my drivers license. Teachers change, principles change and other staff throughout the years during my school years. Mrs. Hanson always was my driver. Our ride would be one hour in the am and one hour in the pm. We spent approximately over 3,000 hours together total. Blessings to Mary and all the bus drivers, Thank you!
Congratulations on 30 years 👏. Pray that you enjoy your retirement 🙏. I am working on 15 years of school bus driving in Va. Will drive until doctor's pull my CDL. BLESS YOU!
God bless her she earned her retirement she is living proof of what they say if you love your job you’ll never work another day in your life now it time for to truly enjoy her life with her family
I just love this video and story and Mary. Happy retirement to you Mary and have fun with your family and your friends and whatever you do in your life. And I know everyone is going to miss you so much and I know that you are going to miss them too.
I'm a school bus driver in my town. I went to school to be a teacher but nothing ever came of that so now I work with kids on the bus. I treat all of them like my own and I really hope to be working as a bus driver for the next 30 years. I'm in my second year and I wouldn't trade this job for the world
Ummmm... Miss Mary doesn't look like nobody's 88 year's old.😳 I'd probably give her 78 or... 75... but NOT 88! She's pulling my chain as my grandpa would say! Lol. I commend you Miss Mary! You have the patience of Job! I'm at 22 year's in education and would love to retire or RUN but I'm going to 🏃🏾♀️ 🏃🏾♀️ 🏃🏾♀️. Thank you for your year's of service to our student's. 🙋🏾♀️💜
She needs to be exalted not condemned ever my friends dad drove until the age of 87 then retired sadly he passed away a month ago at 93. The reason he worked so long is because retirement wasn’t going to happen because he’d get bored
Kids will truly miss her and I’m sure the children truly respected her. The face the felt safe around has or will be changed next year. Congrats on retirement!! 💚💚💚
God bless her soul may she have a great retirement she will be missed you don't find those dedicated people that often but when you do you need to thank him profusely my mother delivered the Concord monitor in the Concord lake sunapee New Hampshire area for 55 years you figure how many stops stores and Miles that is she passed away July 31st of 14 she was delivering papers up to the age of 80 and she died at 86
Managaging a bus full of sometimes over tired, sometimes overexcited children and getting them safe to and from school is such an overlooked and important job. Congrats to her on her retirment
And that driver will retire with dignity. 31 years worth of driving a school bus. That takes some guts to do as an 88-year-old woman. But I can tell you what she'll have a very good retirement when she leaves the job. She's loved her job for that long. That's why she did what she did. So all I can say to that driver is Happy retirement and hope you do well.
This Hart filled Bus driver is so going to Christ when she leaves the earth! A beautiful eternal life’s waiting for her! God bless her Big time!🇺🇸🇱🇻🇺🇸🇱🇻☕️☕️⛳️🎄🎄✝️✝️🇵🇱🇱🇻🇺🇸🏍🛫✝️
This is mind boggling. I understand it's pretty and eye-watering and all, don't get me wrong. But the safety standard difference is so big. Here in Europe bus drivers must can't be over 68. After that age, they can only drive 9-person vans.
My transit bus agency had two drivers in their 80’s that have been there over 50 years. As long as they pass the physical every 1-2 years and don’t have accidents, they’re fine. They’re probably safer drivers than people younger than them. Having a maximum age is age discrimination.
Be Kind🌸🖤 I wake up around same time I started that in high school I hope to retire around 80 myself but I get years until that day comes! LMAOOO! Also your able to enjoy your day getting up that early trust me! It is enlightening ✨

Slight correction, she would have been 57 because she was a bus driver for 31 years
I'm not is not safe

She looks so good and she is handling that bus! I’m sure she will be missed, but I’m glad she can rest now! Kudos!

Dang, school bus drivers are just underappreciated.
I love seeing active elderly people and at 88 she deserves some rest God-bless her for taking care of all those children all this time

I hear ya! "She'll be missed" she's definitely a easy-going and loving lady. May God bless
I have so much respect for bus drivers. They deal with disrespectful kids every day and still work from 5 am to 5 pm(in my experience)!
What bout the respectful ones huh?

She didn’t work for the city, she worked for the school district, and they don’t pay much.

Well, if she was physically and mentally fit enough I don't see the problem. I'm sure they did routine testing to make sure she was fit to drive.
