In this video I make a set of wood stools for my kitchen. If you follow me you know I make stools often, and I am in search of the perfect stool design!!! These wood stools with a steel foot rest and a leather top, was an exercise in using the new 12’ long papermakers lathe I recently purchased. I decided to make the foot rest in steel because it seems like first to break in any other stool design. I had to weld in place because it would have been impossible to assemble as one part.
I had to use the machine shop to fabricate a steel die to match the tapper on the leg where the foot rest collar will live.
And thank you to Weaver for sponsoring this video. The leather top was the inspiration for this design and this video.

THANK YOU! - Jak na to + styl
Old school plus new school.
Ancient tools given new life, and new tools given old wisdom and creativity to really shine!
You, Jimmy are an inspiration!
I love the mix of skills, tools, and materials you use, and you never do the same thing twice! Always pushing your limits, always testing the limits and capabilities of your tools.
You're the Alton Brown of making!
Creative, scientific and artistic in equal quantities and mixing new and old techniques together to make something new and amazing!
I'm gonna go make something!
quintessential DiResta: Leather, wood, and steel
Multi-Medium & Multi-Media
Using the table saw to find the Center! I need to remember that trick.
16 legs lathed, I can imagine you wouldn't want to do any more lathing for the stretchers. The steel really sets it off. Cool stools!
As a viewer I appreciate the time and attention spent on the repetitive work. It was done tastefully. I can really appreciate the time and patience required to make those legs. Respect.
Those old machines sing some beautiful songs! Thanks for slowing it down for a few seconds and sharing.👍👍👏👏👏
It's not often that beauty and ruggedness come together the way they come together with Diresta. Respect!
If I don't learn something, I ALWAYS learn how to do it better. Perfect build.
Il numero 1........ Maker al mondo vai Jimmy nn ti batte nessuno...... Un saluto dall'ITALIA
Those are gorgeous! Watching the way you approach your builds step by step is almost mesmerizing. I'm loving this community so much. I'm just starting to make things at the age of 51. Wish I'd have figured out this passion 35 years ago.
You're one of a kind Jimmy... I don't think there will ever be another maker quite like you... 👍
I love it how the demonstrations he does at the end of the video are plain simple but give you all the confidence that's a darn steardy chair.
Good old school. Thanks for the wonderful video. You saved the spirit of the past in these old machines. Proof that a good machine lasts forever. All your videos are great, but these "old-school" ones are a real refresh. Good job👍👍👍
That's some good lathing right there.
Gerald Brooks ha! I came to say the same!
Lol! I’ve been woodworking for 40 years. It’s not called lathing lol.
Came here for this comment, It's only taken me 3 years of listening to get to this episode, only 1 year to go until I'm up to date
Baby voice: "Jimmy's only making stools now. What is this the stool channel? I miss when it was the sign channel!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Life is so much better with tools. Especially the right tools!
A lot of times I watch your videos because it’s neat to see what you come up with, but I wouldn’t want the project myself. I appreciate the craftsmanship, but the aesthetic is not one that calls to me. This one is absolutely gorgeous! I’d love to replace my beat up stools with this. Nice job, Jimmy!

You would have to be a fool to not like how Jimmy used his tool to create this really cool stool! Just one more project that made me drool😁
The king of work flow and repeat-ability. You can learn so much from these quick videos its insane.
There's no stopping this guy. Good looking work. I'd love to see more of this type stuff.
Love that you used all those classic older machines! the resurrection of those machines is to be commended!and admired!
I like how you drilled the holes in the seat a LOT. Simple, precise
My favorite designs of any product are beautiful, useful, made to outlast anything and strong.
There is beauty in strength, and there is strength in beauty.
These are beautifully strong. I love them Jimmy Diresta.
Great work sir.
I really love the old equipment and shop!
just WOW! Very sturdy and elegant!

The iron leg braces really do it for me. Looks really good.
Some of your best work, thank Jimmy
From a fallen walnut tree to a work of art. “In a world where news of inhumanity bombards our sensibilities, where grasping for things goes so far beyond our needs, where time is squandered in busyness, it is a pleasure and a privilege to pause for a look at handiwork, to see beauty amidst utility, and to know that craft traditions begun so long ago serve us today.”

Thanks for the experience And the wondrous concept
Those are absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Nice work, Jimmy. Thank you for sharing.
I love videos where you go from a 75 year old beautiful cast iron machine to a laser back to a 50 year old sander to a new welder. It’s about using whatever tool does the job and makes for a ridiculously unique video. Beautiful work Jimmy.
The one man factory strikes again! It's the consistency that really impresses me. Beautiful.
It was fun to see all the old tools get used.
That wrap around flapper disc is what's up! I like those
This was classic Jimmy DiResta.....fresh cut wood from a lumber yard, bandsaw, mitre saw, drill press, a little welding, a little leather work, lathe work. And then makes it appear all to easy. Nice work and video Jimmy.
It is always interesting to see the different way you do things to increase your productivity. The cross-slide for shaping the seat top was really good thinking!
Unbelievable Diresta. Nice work.
An excellent combination of materials to meet all the necessary function of a comfortable stool. Thanks Jimmy.
Man, I LOVE those blue Rockler clamps!
They look beautiful!
Those are beautiful and simple! Love them!
Brilliant. They look super strong too.
This is one of your finest Jimmy. Thank you for sharing.
Those are gorgeous.
Beautiful combination of materials to make a simple object such as a stool so stunning
These look awesome love the contrast of the wood and leather 👍🏻
Great demo. Learn something every time. Thanks for showing great approaches to problem solving.
This project really highlights, other than great videography, Mr. Diresta’s unique talent. There are millions of skilled makers. But man! His design ability is so great. I mean every damn wooden stool gets loose at some point. These mechanically can’t dawg! So inspiring. Imna go make something.
it'd be nice for Jimmy to just have a special Page/Link or even a Video for his many Maker Fans, Jimmy-inspired, Project Pics. What do you think Jimmy? Fans can post just the photos of their home projects; you could be like our Giant Cyber Space Refrigerator Door (remember when Mom would post your artwork on the Fridge?). Mike I have also been inspired to get off of my buttox by seeing Jimmy's ambition & creativity -it's contagious. My favorite Jimmy Video is his Next one.
Thank you both 🙏🏼 I often search “DiResta inspired” and see awesome projects 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I dig these. the color combo of the steel, wood, and leather on those stools is gorgeous.
I love your simple solutions - The jig for holding an angle while drilling the seat is awesome!
Awesome results. Love all the jigs and problem solving. Great way to mark the centers of the legs.
One of your best jobs, congrats Jimmy.
Very nicely done..........thanks for sharing too.

Wow, your lathing is so good you must be a master lather!
Lathing??? Do you mean turning? You turn on a lathe....
Stillnapie surely the lathe is the bit that does the turning?! I’ll rewatch but pretty sure he was stood still.
Making It listeners will get it ;p
So satisfying !!
This was an amazing video, watching Jimmy using those gigantic old tools in a very skillful and creative way. Loved the "machining" of those stools tops!
Nice combination for the stool, thank you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Amazing as always Jimmy!
Wow! Those stools will survive any bar brawl and skirmish!
My favorite part of these video's is seeing the high quality, restored, antique machinery still being utilized. Of course the products Jimmy makes are magnificent as well. Those bar stools are beautiful.
