Yes sir, that's the exact reason I did this video. Some other folks have commented that they had their big tractor down and were curious if their little tractor could do it. The proof is in the pudding!

Hoping to be able to pull something similar with my NX4510. If you're cutting a larger field, you may want to split your field down the middle long ways and alternate cutting each split side to not have to turn so sharply to get back aligned with what you want to cut. From what I understand, sharp turns put quite a bit of stress on the batwing PTO shaft joints.
You'll definitely be able to pull a flex wing with that tractor. The HP is of course a factor, but I also think the rolling mass of the larger framed tractor would also help.

I have actually never seen hay cut with a mower! This was very interesting. I already own a 6’ deck cutter but it tends to mulch the hay too much so we went out today and bought a purpose made drum hay mower. I may have to try the cutting deck some time and compare the bale result and see what my sheep prefer! If they won’t eat it the rabbits will! I just bought the same tractor and have used a 70 year old scythe cutter on our old tractor. I guess we keep learning!
Timely. My 65hp John Deere is down for repairs and just today I was just looking at my 40hp Mahindra 1640 and my 12' Woods batwing and wondering if I could make do in the meantime. I think I will give er a whirk
That'd definitely be a good use of the combo. It's always good to figure out your equipment's limitations and capacities in case of emergency!

If its the same mowed filed and no surprises I guess you can wing it. I am pulling a 15ft land pride with mid 90's on claimed PTO HP and I would not want to take that cutter less then 75 in fields like that. But land pride rated it for a min of 55 PTO HP which is not enough to keep you from slowing in super heavy fields. IMO given the weight of these style cutters you really need to be 30 to 50% over the min power requirements.
I totally agree. It definitely depends on the field, conditions, and tractor. It'd definitely be a have-to thing to run this setup. My BIL has a bush hog brand 2215 15' cutter, and I definitely wouldn't attempt it with that.

Any idea on how many gallons per hour the 4010 tractor was consuming in low range on the upper field with the lighter grass.

What was the outside air temperature when mowing.
Is this in middle or western Tennessee.
Thanks so much for checking it out. Honestly, I didn't even think to check the fuel consumption, but that is a good data point. I don't think it used much at all, it wasn't a terribly large area. The FIL has said that he can mow the large field on just a few gallons of fuel, too, I think. I'll double check and get back to you on that. I think the larger field total is about 10ish acres, maybe a bit more. It was mid-June in middle Tennessee, so it was over 90 degrees and neither machine had any overheating issues, but I was conscious of stopping intermittently to clean screens. My ck4010 quickly sucked up enough seed to block the vents had I given it a chance with such a small area. Thanks again for checking in!
My only concern is how close the pto is to the draw bar going over a hill, and having the two meet I've had it happen makes one big mess then getting new pto shaft for it

Me too! Glad it worked out, and it can definitely be done, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it on a regular basis.
My concern would have been if the mower uses a slip clutch or shear pins. The reason is it might be a little too much for your tractor if you got into something that would require that safety feature to be needed.
Yessir. The mower had a slip clutch. But you are correct. A malfunctioning slip clutch or too high of a grade shear bolt would have been bad news for the tractor since I was at my max PTO rating.
Those Daedong engines have tremendous torque. Much more than comparable HP Yanmar engines.

@@BigOrangeTractors oh I watched the whole thing! I keep getting told the old, "1ft wide per 5hp" thing, so trying to decide how big I CAN go if I wanted. This helped.
@@D-OveRMinD yeah, that's the assumption I've always worked on, too. I'd say a fella might be able to go a bit bigger than that, but it'd have to be really ideal conditions, and I'd say a gear drive tractor, too. Thanks for checking it out, and glad I could help a bit.
Looking @ getting this same cutter and noticed you have what looks like rings on the main height lift cylinder. Do they come w/ the cutter or separate?
No, they were purchased separately. They are there to control lowest setting, basically.

@@davidp.savage734 my FIL got them from his dealer, but they are available from many different sources. TSC shows to have some for $35. Of course, you'd have to make sure you buy the correct rod diameter.

Why mowing backwards?
Study the field , It looks like your going up hill ,the outer cut is CLOSER to the slope . But the machine is making a good job of it , tell me ,Is this an American tool ?

Thanks for checking us out! It may have looked a bit close, but thanks to the movement in the joints, it never got close enough to be close to worried.
YOU AND TRACTOR TIME WITH TIM are two peas in a pod. GET THAT MOWER OFF THAT 40 HP TRACTOR, YOU"RE ABOUT A 75 HP SHORT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO you know if that 40 HP tractor has a PTO brake that is activated when you turn the PTO off, IF IT DOES< SMOKED. I've never seen anybody cut hay with a rotary mower. With that overlap when you're mowing with the 7310 your only mowing about 8 ft of grass. That 40 HP tractor should have about a 5 foot rotary mower. I sold tractors for 20 years and grew up on a farm so I have had about 65 years around tractors.
