  • This is the second version. It's fast paced so you may miss some images. Everything has a meaning. The photos that a lovely gentleman took had to be presented. Thank you JimmyS. The flowers and other scenes are from Alaska, California and of course Scotland. The Celtic music is from iMovie and is titled Shetland. The words are from poems by Robert Burns.The patron saint of Glasgow is Saint Mungo (Kentigem) he holds the symbols of the four miracles: the tree, the robin, the bell and the salmon with gold ring. There are British Commonwealth graves from WWI and WWII plus a few British Merchant Navy and Polish military graves. Some of my mother's family are here. One stone that fell back is embedded in the ground is that of my Aunt Hannah who died young and two Uncles who died in infancy. We hope to find more. Hope to find my Uncle Arthur.
    A Red, Red Rose 1794
    O my Luve's like a red, red rose,
    That's newly sprung in June:
    O my Luve's like the melodie,
    That's sweetly play'd in tune.
    As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
    So deep in luve am I;
    And I will luve thee still, my dear,
    Till a' the seas gang dry.
    Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
    And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
    And I will luve thee still, my dear,
    While the sands o' life shall run.
    And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve!
    And fare-thee-weel, a while!
    And I will come again, my Luve,
    Tho' 'twere ten thousand mile!
    My Heart;s In The Highlands 1789
    Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
    The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth;
    Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
    The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.
    Chorus.-My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
    My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;
    Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
    My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.
    Farewell to the mountains, high-cover'd with snow,
    Farewell to the straths and green vallies below;
    Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods,
    Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
    My heart's in the Highlands.
    Auld Lang Syne 1788
    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    And never brought to mind?
    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    And auld lang syne!
    Chorus.-For auld lang syne, my dear,
    For auld lang syne.
    We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.
    And surely ye'll be your pint stowp!
    And surely I'll be mine!
    And we'll tak a cup o'kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.
    For auld, &c.
    We twa hae run about the braes,
    And pou'd the gowans fine;
    But we've wander'd mony a weary fit,
    Sin' auld lang syne.
    For auld, &c.
    We twa hae paidl'd in the burn,
    Frae morning sun till dine;
    But seas between us braid hae roar'd
    Sin' auld lang syne.
    For auld, &c.
    And there's a hand, my trusty fere!
    And gie's a hand o' thine!
    And we'll tak a right gude-willie waught,
    For auld lang syne.
    For auld, &c.

    That was a beautiful evocation of Scotland and of her past. The sadness, the history and yet the thrill of a wild landscape that holds so many memories safely within its beauty.

    Enjoyed the video. I live in Glasgow and only a couple of hours away from this beautifully dramatic scenery. I am sooo lucky, despite the weather. The weather makes us the tough people we are.

    Thanks, Steve. My Scottish Family&ancestors were Lowland Glaswegians. One Great-grandaunt lived in Nairn but that is as far north as our family lived. You mentioned that you visited Inverness the capital of the Highlands, Loch Ness et al. Such beautiful countryside!

    @Hellishcrusade Thanks for stopping by. The cold moors! Chilled to the bone. Reminds me of Jane Eyre or something else written by the Bronte sisters. I visit those places often ~through my looking glass~. Scottish blood runs through my veins.

    @johnnytheglesgabhoy Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Happy you enjoyed my video. I have memories of visits to Glasgow as a wee girl. My mother was born in Glasgow and her family go way back. I have done some interesting genealogy research and helped find my cousin's father's grave site. We thought he was buried in Scotland but found he was buried in England. Yes! tough people resilient!

    Whoa! Have no fear of this video becoming "dour"!
    The music is perfect just as it is. "A very rapid flash of images", stirring images, is closer to a blur, eh? The land one longs for, the Burns excerpts, the beauty in your laudable, artistic homage to Scotland is often reduced by speed.
    Please do lengthen this video for a more generous view. Same images, same music but for six or so minutes . . .a gift to you and your viewers.
    Yours is a fine video. Now grant it time to be seen.

    @sesanner Thank for your overwhelming kind comment! There are some family lairs in this fast pace video. My cousin and I were in search of his father my uncle 's grave. It has taken many kind people, finding unexpected distant relatives and some years of e-mailing to find the place. My mother's family are from Glasgow with a long history which I have researched-genealogy is fantastic.
    Thank you again for your wonderful comment.

    @atziette Thanks for stopping by & commenting. This is a very personal video for me. It contains photos taken by a friend of some of my ancestors grave stones. I can not travel there now so this video is a very rapid flash of images. I did not want it to be dour or sad therefore the fast paced music from iMovie.
