      The dingwall has active pickups already I believe and Andrew has a Pegasus pickup in the 8 string, there’s a noticeable difference between the two as the bass has more of a high end rattle. At least that what my ears pick up

    A bass is a octave lower. Even with a 8 or 9 string guitar. Still a octave lower. If the bassist has a 5 plus string of course.

    To be honest, even though they don't sound "alike", they do sound similar enough that if you put one version instead of another, most listeners wouldn't notice that much of a difference.
    I bet it would sound SICK if you do the same on Double Bass!

    Strings are quite different and the pick-ups are another world. But substituting the strings (if the scale and nut allows) will bring both quite close.

  • @trippprofant8747
    @trippprofant8747 Před 2 lety

    I could be wrong but my guess is the scale length is what would be affecting the differences in tone, would be cool to see a short scale bass possibly the same scale length of your guitar and test it. Good vid appreciate the open ended answer think more ppl need to realize that when it comes to music pretty much all of it is just preference not fact.

    You just proved the point. There’s actually note definition and not just harsh gain.
    Guitar as an instrument is a lead and mid heavy instrument with some low end potential. If you’re just doing it for the chugs bass is much more fun!

  • @drewishaf
    @drewishaf Před 2 lety

    Agreed. But you can definitely make a bass sound like a guitar or vice versa. Most people don't have the desire to actually look at the build of each component to see WHY they sound different. From the pickups being wired completely differently to the various types of resistance in the potentiometers or the capacitance of the capacitors and how everything is wired, there's a LOT that makes instruments sound different. But the other side of that coin is that, with the right equipment and settings (and editing software, effects, etc etc) you can get just about any sound you want. It's a matter of spending the time to learn the ins and outs of everything

  • @danielschenker9874
    @danielschenker9874 Před 8 měsíci

    You also would rarely use a tone like that for bass. Usually you would dial in less distortion, and cleaner and clearer lowend. That makes the bass sound very different.

    I’m all for extended range . But as the neck gets thicker, tone sounds more and more “hollow” is how I’d describe it. There’s a comparison video between 8’s, 7’s, and six string baritone. Same tuning, same tone, baritone 6 string sounded heavier.

    I think ultimately, like the bass or 7,8,9 strings... they are there own thing. But Rabbea Massad really developed his own thing with Bari
    but as you said ... strings, pickups, scale length ... so each instrumen is a starting point rather than an end in and off itself
